I have been tutoring as a volunteer position since middle school, when I helped young children at a summer tutoring program organized by Faith Community Church. More recently, I have volunteered at the Westport Boys and Girls Club as well as helping my younger brother with his homework at home.I have attended St. Johns College of Annapolis, a unique liberal arts college with devoted teachers and a focus on person-to-person conversations about the material. I am currently taking time off of school for health reasons and am currently planning the next steps of my education.I aim to help elementary and middle school aged children with Writing, Math, and English, including grammar and reading comprehension. My math skills include Basic Arithmetic, Geometry, and Pre-Algebra as well as Algebra I. I am also skilled in general testing skills and SAT Prep in particular. I can also help with essential computer skills, on Mac or PC, and use of Microsoft applications.I am especially invested in tutoring in math and reading. If learned well, math can teach students to use the information around them in order to understand the world. And reading, if it is not treated like a chore, can open up imagination and possibilities, as well as teaching children ways that people express their experiences. To me, the most important part of tutoring is helping children to understand material in ways that allow them to learn to recognize their strengths and apply them to their studies in ways they may not immediately see. Some keen-eyed students can understand abstract subjects through visual aids, while some may work better with quantifications and variables, even when studying literature. It is important to me that students understand that their unique ways of learning are strengths, and not crutches. I avoid rote memorization whenever possible.Off the clock, I am a devoted reader and a novice poet and writer, as well as a fan of critical analysis of all types of media, especially books and video games. I am also a baker and a fan of nature hikes.

I am a rising junior at the Johns Hopkins University studying Biomedical Engineering and minoring in Entrepreneurship & Management. While I tutor many subjects, I get the most out of tutoring Math. Math was always my favorite subject in school, and there's something special about finally having that lightbulb moment after struggling through a difficult problem. I know how tough the college admissions process can be, and would love to share what I know about the experience. In my spare time, I enjoy swimming, exploring Baltimore, and watching basketball with my family (go Spurs!).

I enjoy helping students achieve their goals, and I've been a student my whole life so I know the challenges students can face. I am in the M.D.-Ph.D program at Johns Hopkins University (graduating in May!), and I have a B.S. in Zoology with a Minor in Neuroscience from Miami University. I've taught students at all levels (age 4 up through adult learners), focusing on different areas within biology and math. I have experience translating challenging concepts and scientific language into simpler terms. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals!

Hello! I am a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a focus in math. I tutor elementary math, reading, writing and prepare children for placement tests. I especially love to teach math, helping students understand the fundamentals so they can understand more advanced concepts.I started tutoring over 12 years ago during college with America Reads where I earned "Outstanding Mentor." While my tutees scores vastly improve, I am concerned about the child's total success. I not only seek to give them the right tools to succeed but also encourage them to believe that when they try, they can improve and succeed. An example of my work includes a student who spoke English as a second language and also had special needs. As I worked with him daily, his reading level increased ten levels and his math scores went from below average to earning over 80% in his final math testing that year.Trekking in Nepal with my husband was a highlight of 2014 and rescuing my first dog is something I look forward to in 2015. I also love to sing and cook.

I am a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park. I received my BA in Spanish Language, Literature and Cultures and I minored in International Development and Conflict Management. Since graduating I have moved onto teaching full-time. I currently teach 11th grade English but I also have experience with 1:1 tutoring. I worked with my university's writing center throughout college and volunteered as an ESL tutor during that time as well. I'm passionate about teaching because I love helping learners realize and act on their own potential. I love tutoring because I know that sometimes a little extra support is just what students need in order to exceed their goals. I struggled myself with standardized testing in high school and benefitted greatly from the personalized assistance that came from working a tutor. My educational philosophy is rooted in the idea that students are capable of anything with the right support.

In undergrad, I was a premed-neuroscience major at Johns Hopkins University. In my free time, I play rugby, I do acting, and I like to write. I enjoy tutoring because I want to help facilitate a growing appreciation for knowledge, which can only be accomplished when difficult topics, like physics, can be easily understood. In highschool (Harvard-Westlake), I qualified to be a finalist for the USA biology olympiad and in college I've worked in several labs doing research on neurologically focused endeavors, including treating ALS and reducing antisocial symptoms of autism on a molecular level. I am very excited about the different subjects that I tutor, which range from high school to graduate level programs, and I hope I can make you also excited about them!

I am a teacher with over 30 years experience teaching Mathematics and Physics in schools across South Africa, India and the United States. Most recently, I have been a Mathematics and IB Physics teacher at Meade High School in Anne Arundel County Public Schools. At Meade High I have taught Algebra 2 classes along with the aforementioned IB Physics class. With respect to my teaching style, I try to meet students where they are. Instead of stressing on previous understanding of concepts, I try to foster a positive attitude to the subject and a hard working mentality. And through my classes as well as 1:1 sessions, I try to bring about improvement in each student. At the very least, at the end of the year, each student should feel a lot more comfortable with the subject. They should never shy away from a career choice because of a Mathematics or Physics component.
