I am a high school history teacher who has also worked as a teaching assistant at one of the country's top 10 colleges. I've taught ACT/SAT prep for about 4 years to students at all ends of the academic spectrum: from those working with learning disabilities/accommodations & struggling with timing to those trying to achieve perfect scores. Although I always create individualized plans, I focus on teaching every student the most effective, step-by-step way to approach each question on each section of the test. Beyond test prep, I've taught/tutored just about every academic subject through the undergraduate level. Outside the classroom, I enjoy reading about history, going to church, coaching sports (track & tennis), and spending time with my family. I really enjoy getting to know each student I teach as we work toward our goals.

I enjoy helping students learn more about math. It is a great feeling to see the "light bulb" turn on. I have been a math teacher and tutor for over 10 years, which includes teaching secondary, collegiate, and graduate courses. I earned a B.S. in mathematics from the University of Notre Dame. I also have an M.B.A. in quantitative business analysis from Indiana University and earned my secondary mathematics teaching license/certification at Indiana Wesleyan University.
I am currently a fourth year medical student in Indianapolis. I completed my undergraduate education at Indiana University Bloomington, where I majored in Biology and Spanish. I also completed two minors in Mathematics and Chemistry. While at IU, I worked for the Department of Mathematics and Department of Spanish. I also worked as a Peer Tutor for the IU Athletics Department, tutoring in several subjects including statistics, chemistry, physics, and Spanish. I graduated from college with a 4.0, and I entered medical school shortly thereafter. Since coming to medical school, I have excelled in all of my pre-clinical coursework, and I currently rank in the Top 20% of my class. I feel very comfortable and confident tutoring other students in a variety of subjects from math and science to Spanish. I like to think that the same techniques I have used to excel in all phases of my education can be easily adapted to other students and help you achieve your academic goals, just as I have!
I'm a non-traditional teacher, probably because I was a non-traditional student. I have ADHD and always have, so I don't always approach education from a traditional perspective. I worked for the Florida Marlins and the Miami Heat before moving back to Michigan and opening a golf shop. When I had kids, I realized it was important to be that I be involved in education, in no small part because I wanted to make sure the school wasn't as awful for my kids as it was for me.
I am an author of two Personal Finance books Women and Money and The Value Book and a historical book, Indiana Avenue Life and Musical Journey from 1915 to 2015.
I am currently a teacher for the SAT. I'm very excited to be a tutor for VarsityTutors. I have a very methodical approach to teaching. I want the students to understand the rationale behind the question. Yes, the student may get a specific question right, but what about other problems? Will the student have the skill set to solve other problems. To aid the student in learning, I draw in examples from other disciplines or my own experience when I learned the topic and what helped me in my own understanding.
I'm currently a Process Assistant at an Amazon warehouse, which is like an assistant manager. My job is interesting, active, and varied, but I missed tutoring and want to make math and other subjects as easy as possible to approach and grasp for students. With the right time and a commitment to tailoring a tutoring style for the person being assisted, any student can pass their classes and retain lifelong knowledge and experience. I'm looking forward to working with you!
I am happy to assist with a wide variety of subjects from ACT prep to general homework assistance for any age student. My experiences with children outside the classroom as a swim coach and assistant scoutmaster has reinforced my belief that teaching requires positivity, patience, and enthusiasm to achieve success.
I am an experienced higher education administrator. I have spent my career in positions related to legal education, and I love working with students. I have always loved math, and I would like to help students who are being challenged by math concepts. I'm a firm believer that math can be fun, or at least that the concepts can be conquered. The same can be said for learning beginning Spanish and English grammar, which I am also happy to tutor. I am a published author, and can also help with students who are experiencing challenges with writing.
I am a graduate of Indiana University where I received a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Mathematics minor. Currently, I am pursuing a Master's degree in Human Genetics in hopes of soon becoming a Genetic Counselor. Previously, I have held positions as a Mathematics tutor and Biology Undergraduate Teaching Assistant while at Indiana University. I personally love tutoring and helping students succeed in the way previous role models, professors, and students have helped me in the past. I believe each student learns differently, and it's incredibly important to determine how each particular student learns and what strategies work well for each individual in order to allow them to succeed. I also thoroughly enjoy helping students find a passion and enjoyment for STEM fields as I have. In my free time, I love traveling, acting in community theatre productions, and crafting.
I am currently and MS Economics students at Purdue University as well as a Data Analyst for The Heritage Group. I have experience tutoring graduate-level econometrics and macroeconomics.
I am prepared to instruct if need be. My job is not complete until a student realizes the potential within themselves to not only succeed on tests but also understands the way to think about the subject. I can give a student a fish, but they are better off being taught how to fish.

Personalized 1-on-1 instruction allows tutors to identify gaps in understanding and work at your student's pace to build mastery of key concepts—whether that's Indiana's math standards, language arts benchmarks, or science expectations. This targeted approach is especially valuable given the 19:1 student-teacher ratio in many Indianapolis classrooms, where individualized attention can be limited.
Indianapolis students typically seek tutoring in math, English/language arts, science, and standardized test preparation (including SAT, ACT, and Indiana state assessments). During the first session, the tutor will get to know your student, assess their current understanding of the subject, and discuss specific goals—whether that's improving a grade, preparing for an Indiana state assessment, or building foundational skills. This initial conversation helps the tutor create a personalized plan that addresses your student's unique learning style and academic needs.
Many students see noticeable improvement within a few weeks of consistent tutoring, particularly when working with a tutor who understands their learning style and can provide targeted practice. The timeline depends on the subject, your student's starting point, and how frequently they work with their tutor—but personalized 1-on-1 instruction typically accelerates progress compared to classroom-only learning.
