I am majoring in two interdisciplinary programs--one called Peace and Global Studies, and the second called Women's, Gender, Sexuality Studies. Through these majors I have a background in English, Spanish, Arabic, history, philosophy, politics, and anthropology. I have strong reading and writing skills that I have gained from my academic career and that I have applied in two years of tutoring experience in the Earlham College Writing Center. I am especially interested in tutoring skills and subjects related to writing (every step of the process from brainstorming to proof reading!), reading practice, reading comprehension, literature and text analysis; I am able to help with these topics in standardized testing and am excited to work with any age group. I am a current PhD student in Hispanic Literatures and Cultures at Indiana University Bloomington, where I also teach Spanish to students as an associate instructor. I chose to pursue a doctorate in Spanish not only because of my love of the language, but also because I love teaching Spanish as much as I love studying it! I believe that anyone can learn a language, no matter their age or experience; all you need is a willingness to learn and to keep trying, even when you make mistakes. My goal as an instructor is to help students arrive at a point where they feel truly comfortable with Spanish, which means not only helping students understand the rules of the language but also how they might use it in their daily lives to communicate with others. As a language-learner myself, I've seen the ways that learning a second language can enrich your life, and I want to give my students the tools they need to experience places, people, and cultures they wouldn't have access to otherwise.

My favorite part of teaching is what I like to call "lightbulb moments", which are moments when a student finally understands something they've been struggling with, and it's as though a little lightbulb goes off in their minds. These moments are what motivate me to do my job and put a smile on my face every day.

I graduated from Bowdoin College with a B.A. in Africana Studies and a French Minor. After Bowdoin, I worked at the Fay School in Massachusetts where I wore multiple hats. I was a dorm parent for ninth grade girls, basketball coach, track and field coach, ESL teacher, admission officer, Ethics and Wellness teacher, and French teacher. After Fay, I attended Teachers College at Columbia University where I received my M.A. in Education Policy. I love education and I love working with those who want to learn and try new things. I believe the best way to learn is through practice, interactive lessons, and allowing the student to take ownership of their education. My favorite subjects to teach are math, french, and ESL. Personally, I was born in Senegal and love to do West African dance any chance that I get.

As someone who considers themselves a lifelong learner, I am passionate about learning new concepts, and I am motivated to share this attitude with my students!I graduated from Indiana University Bloomington in 2017 with a BA in Speech-Language Pathology and a minor in Psychology, and in 2020 with an MA in Speech-Language Pathology.In the future, I plan to serve as a Speech-Language Pathologist in an urban school district with students who come from diverse ethnic backgrounds and SES.As a student pursuing Speech-Language Pathology, I have had extensive experience in teaching individuals from ages 4 to 80 by providing speech therapy and have become an expert in tailoring my teaching style to best meet the needs of my students.I have served as a graduate clinician in several elementary schools, where I have provided speech therapy (e.g. reading groups, targeting narrative retell, grammatical concepts, phonological awareness, core language, social skills, study skills, organization, etc.) in small group settings. Additionally, I have worked as a graduate teaching assistant in Indiana University's American Sign Language Department, where I co-taught American Sign Language with Deaf professors and provided office hours for undergraduate students. I have also worked alongside special education teachers, general education teachers, and paraprofessionals to design language-enriching curriculum in a summer camp setting for elementary school students with special needs, and served as a camp leader as well.Subjects I tutor include Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Algebra 2, PSAT Critical Reading, PSAT Mathematics, PSAT Writing Skills, Psychology, Elementary School English, English Grammar and Syntax, Elementary School Reading, Elementary School Writing, Elementary School Science, Essay Editing, Finite Mathematics, Science, Special Education, Study Skills and Organization.
