I am a certified ESL teacher as well as teaching History at the local community college. Being an ESL teacher gives me the opportunity to bridge language and cultures, which is something I am passionate about. History is the perfect subject to encourage students to think critically and independently. History, whether it is personal/family or state or national or world, provides an identity and moral understanding. I find it exciting when students move beyond parroting what I say or what the readings say to draw their conclusions and back up their statements with facts. By examining the past, students learn so much more about the present, as well as develop the abilities to use logic, problem-solve, assess evidence and conflicting interpretations, and understand past examples of change. These abilities transition into working life skills as well as develop responsible public behavior no matter if they are a national or community leader, an informed voter, or an observer.

I am a student at Indiana University Bloomington working towards a Bachelor in Science in Biology and Neuroscience. During college, I have been a member of numerous campus organizations, such as Timmy Global Health through which I had the opportunity to travel to Guatemala and work with local healthcare providers. In Guatemala, we traveled to rural sites to set up clinics and teach the citizens of rural communities about proper nutrition habits and others ways to improve their health using the resources they have available. These experiences motivated me to seek a future in healthcare in which I will be attending the Indiana University School of Medicine in the Fall of 2021 in order to become a physician. Moreover, I am most passionate about tutoring in Biology and Algebra. I see great importance in education because it helped me make my dreams a reality. In my opinion, education is a great way to increase understanding of the world and to open up a world of opportunities in the future. My motto with education and tutoring is to focus on the small wins and to work education into one's life, rather than vice versa. In my free time, I enjoy painting/crafting, walking, and watching football.

7+ Years Tutoring

I am an incoming college sophomoore studying Aerospace Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. I was one of the top scholars at Carmel High School in Indiana and have various experiences teaching and tutoring through leading the Carmel High School Science Olympiad team to Nationals for two years in a row. Many of my friends consistently come to me for help with various subjects because of my willingness to help and teach in a way that makes sense to everyone. My specialities are physics, chemistry, math, and economics but I am comfortable tutoring any STEM subject, the SAT, and the ACT. Some of my accomplishments include a perfect 36 ACT score, 800 on the Physics, Math Level 2, and Chemistry SAT subject tests, and a 5 on all the physics, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Macroeconomics, Computer Science, etc. AP exams. When teaching, I focus on making sure that not only do students understand different concepts, but also that students understand why and practical applications of the different concepts. As a recent high school graduate, I have a deep understanding of how high-schoolers think, what is covered in various courses now, and can connect with my students a lot more. Additionally, as an undergraduate teaching assistant at the College of Computing at Georgia Tech, I taught weekly recitation sections of 30 students and held weekly office hours. Therefore, I have lots of experience teaching and working with students.

I believe that understanding the 'why' behind concepts is crucial for long-term retention, so I strive to connect lessons to real-world applications. I am motivated by witnessing my students' growth and confidence, particularly as they navigate the challenges of college applications and advanced coursework. I am excited about helping students learn academic material or prepare for standardized exams so that they can achieve their goals. I also think the learning process reveals a lot about who you are, and understanding yourself enables better decision making about your future. I would be happy to help when needed because it's important to feel confident in your identity and abilities, to have self-awareness, and to make informed decisions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Carmel's 27 schools and all three school districts with personalized tutoring. Whether your student attends a school in the Carmel Clay Schools, Metropolitan School District of Decatur Township, or another local district, we can match them with a tutor who understands their specific curriculum and academic needs.

Personalized 1-on-1 instruction allows tutors to focus on the specific Indiana standards your student is working toward, whether in math, English language arts, science, or social studies. Rather than keeping pace with a classroom of 21+ students, tutors can slow down on challenging concepts, provide targeted practice, and ensure mastery of state standards at your student's own speed.

Carmel students frequently seek help with algebra, geometry, and precalculus as they progress through high school math sequences, as well as standardized test prep for the SAT and ACT. We also work with students on English composition, chemistry, and AP exam preparation across multiple subjects. Tutors can assess where your student is struggling and create a focused plan to build confidence and skills.

In the first session, the tutor will assess your student's current level, discuss specific academic goals, and identify areas where they need the most support. This might include reviewing recent assignments, test scores, or topics causing confusion. The tutor will then outline a personalized plan and start building rapport so your student feels comfortable asking questions and working collaboratively.

Absolutely. Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors experienced in SAT prep (which ranges from 400-1600) and ACT prep (scored 1-36), as well as AP exams and Indiana-specific assessments. A personalized approach means your student focuses on their weaker areas—whether that's math, reading comprehension, or test-taking strategy—rather than reviewing material they've already mastered.

With an average student-teacher ratio of 21.3:1 in Carmel schools, classroom teachers often can't provide the individualized attention every student needs. Personalized 1-on-1 tutoring fills that gap by allowing tutors to adapt pacing, teaching style, and content to your specific student's learning needs—something that's difficult in a larger classroom setting.

A tutor will identify exactly where the knowledge gap started—whether it's a foundational concept from an earlier grade or a recent topic—and work backward to rebuild understanding. Rather than moving forward with incomplete knowledge, personalized instruction lets your student master prerequisites and catch up at a pace that works for them, often preventing frustration and disengagement.

We consider your student's specific subject, grade level, learning style, and academic goals when making a match. We also take into account any preferences you have regarding the tutor's background or experience. Once matched, you can communicate directly with the tutor to ensure they're the right fit before committing to ongoing sessions.
