There's nothing quite like that moment when a student's face lights up with understanding. Whether it's finally grasping a challenging calculus concept, conquering chemistry equations, or crafting the perfect college essay, I've had the privilege of witnessing countless "aha!" moments throughout my tutoring journey. What drives me as an educator is understanding that learning isn't one-size-fits-all. Every student has unique strengths and learning styles. My role isn't just to teach content - it's to discover how each student learns best and build their confidence alongside their knowledge. Many students come to me feeling overwhelmed, but I help them see that math and science aren't mysterious - they're puzzles waiting to be solved. I provide comprehensive tutoring across all levels of high school mathematics - from foundational algebra through advanced calculus and statistics. In the sciences, I work with students in biology, chemistry, and physics, connecting classroom concepts to real-world applications that make learning engaging and memorable. For college preparation, I offer SAT and ACT test prep that focuses on both content mastery and strategic test-taking skills. I also provide essay editing and writing support throughout the college application process, helping students craft compelling narratives that authentically showcase their personality and aspirations. What sets my tutoring apart is my genuine investment in each student's success. I don't just help with homework - I help students develop critical thinking skills, study strategies, and the confidence to tackle new challenges independently. I maintain regular communication with parents and always hold high expectations because I know students are capable of meeting them. Ready to unlock your potential? Let's work together to achieve your academic goals - one concept, one problem, and one success at a time. When I'm not tutoring, you'll find me experimenting in the kitchen, creating my own recipes and perfecting everything from weeknight dinners to elaborate desserts. There's something incredibly satisfying about the precision of baking that mirrors the logical thinking I love about math and science. I'm also passionate about staying active - whether I'm out on a morning run, hitting the hiking trails, or sweating it out in group fitness classes at the gym. I'm actually looking forward to diving into CrossFit next, always up for a new challenge!

I'm a medical resident. looking to tutor in biology, anatomy, math, and MCAT prep. Teaching is one of my passions, and I have tutored since I was in high school. I continued to tutor while at Stony Brook University where I graduated with a double major in applied math and bioinformatics/computational biology. Due to unfortunate circumstances, I need to stay home for the next few months. I do not want to stop my tutoring so here I am looking to help students virtually! Medical school has made biology my favorite subject to tutor in as I've really nailed in me how to learn and understand a lot of material in a short amount of time. Medical school has taught me many approaches and tactics to making learning more efficient I wish I knew about earlier. I aim to share these methods with my students to make them stand out from the rest.

I graduated from Cornell University studying Biology and choosing to specialize in Neurobiology and Behavior. I have an extensive background in math and science. I was pre- med during my four years and I am currently working part time while finishing my final year of medical school. Right after graduating, I participated in City Year, an AMERICORPS education focused non-profit that partners with schools needing the most assistance. I led the 9th Grade academy where my job was to design tailored math and science curricula for 6-8 high risk academic students in 5 different classes. I provided attendance and behavior sessions for another group of students and I served as the Math Coordinator for my team. Since then, I have been working with Varsity tutors and offering academic assistance to other students in my school. Although medical school and tutoring occupy most of my time, I enjoy watching and playing basketball and soccer (futbol). I am a big fan of hip hop and the arts, as well. I have seen that the biggest challenge that prevents students from succeeding is a lack of self confidence. My mother is a part-time business owner, who couldn't operate a computer on her own until this year. When I was young, she simply decided that she was 'bad at technology' and it stuck. Eventually, my sister and I sat her down and gave her instructions on how to access the internet. The next day, we taught her how to use Microsoft word. We made sure that she focused on each skill alone and ignored everything else that seemed confusing. Two weeks later, she got the hang of it. I tutor by presenting the subject matter in a similar way while frequently setting attainable goals so that students will realize how easy it is for them to master subjects on their own. It is the same method I use to learn all of the challenging material I encounter every day. I look forward to meeting you and helping you build the confidence and skills necessary to succeed.

I'm a current medical student at VCU School of Medicine, and a graduate of Johns Hopkins University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology. I've had the pleasure of tutoring a diverse range of students for 5 years; while I tutor a broad set of subjects, I'm most passionate about biology, psychology, and chemistry. I'm a big proponent of ensuring understanding over memorization and teaching concepts that last for years to come (particularly for other students interested in medicine!) In my free time, I love to write poetry, edit essays, and gush about game writing with friends.

I am a graduate of Indiana University Bloomington (IUB), where I earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology, Psychology, and Neuroscience. Through my experience as a student, undergraduate teaching assistant (peer tutor/AI), and research mentor, I learned that effective and empowering learning is mostly about HOW you study as opposed to HOW MUCH you study. My best teachers always taught me to focus on solidifying the big picture (high yield) concepts first and add in smaller (low yield) details afterwards. This practice of breaking down complex ideas into fundamental first principles made me understand just how powerful knowledge could be and how it could be used to solve the world's hardest problems. This made even the smallest and most tedious of details easy to learn. I applied these same concepts to my students with tremendous success. In the process of learning and teaching, I fell in love with fostering "aha" moments while sharing my most passionate academic interests with others. Ultimately, that's why I'm here at Varsity Tutors! I want to give all of you the best of the teaching experiences that I was given, as well as include the things that I always wish that I had. While I tutor in almost every subject, I'm most passionate about Spanish and the sciences. Spanish gave me an entirely new culture to explore and people to connect to, while science helped me understand just how incredible our universe can be. Consequently, both are near and dear to my heart. Shortly after graduating college in 2019, I started the Medical Scientist Training Program at the Indiana University School of Medicine. I am fortunate to be simultaneously working towards my MD and towards a PhD in Neuroscience. I want to use my career to improve our understanding and management of psychiatric conditions as well as to train the next generation of great thinkers and innovators. Outside of academia, I like to compete in Olympic weightlifting, travel, do outdoorsy and adventurous things, listen and dance to hip hop, and spend time with the homies. I'm constantly discovering new passions, and firmly believe that personal growth is just as important as academic development.

Frequently Asked Questions
Score improvement depends on your starting point and study effort, but most students see meaningful gains with personalized instruction. The MCAT is scored 472-528, and research on 1-on-1 tutoring shows students typically improve 5-12 points when they combine expert guidance with consistent practice. Success relies on identifying your specific weak areas—whether that's CARS passage timing, physics problem-solving, or biochemistry concepts—and targeting those gaps with targeted strategies and full-length practice tests.
Pacing is one of the biggest challenges MCAT test-takers face. A tutor can help you develop section-specific timing strategies, such as how much time to spend per passage in CARS versus working through discrete chemistry questions. They'll also help you practice with full-length exams under timed conditions, identify where you're losing time, and teach you techniques like strategic skipping and pre-reading strategies that work for your learning style. The key is practicing these strategies repeatedly so they become automatic on test day.
CARS (Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills) is typically the most challenging section because it requires both reading comprehension and reasoning—skills that take time to develop. However, the hardest section varies by student: some struggle with physics and chemistry content in Chemical and Physical Foundations, while others find Biology and Biochemistry overwhelming due to the volume of material. A tutor can diagnose which section is your biggest obstacle through practice tests and question analysis, then focus on your specific weak spots rather than generic review.
Most students spend 3-4 months preparing for the MCAT, dedicating 20-30 hours per week to studying. With tutoring, many students structure their preparation around weekly or bi-weekly sessions—enough to stay accountable and address specific concepts, but with independent study and practice tests in between. Your tutor can help you create a realistic study schedule, prioritize high-yield material based on your baseline knowledge, and adjust your plan as you progress. Starting 3-4 months before your test date gives you time to build content knowledge, master strategies, and complete full-length practice exams.
Practice tests serve two critical purposes: they simulate test-day conditions and they reveal your specific weak areas. Taking full-length practice exams helps you understand your pacing challenges, identify content gaps, and build stamina for the 7.5-hour exam. A tutor can help you interpret your practice test results—not just your overall score, but your performance by section, question type, and content area—so you know exactly what to focus on next. Most test-takers take 8-10 practice exams throughout their prep, with tutors helping them analyze results and adjust strategy between tests.
Test anxiety often stems from uncertainty about the material or unfamiliarity with the test format. A tutor helps build confidence by ensuring you understand concepts thoroughly rather than relying on memorization, teaching you concrete test-taking strategies so you feel prepared, and having you practice extensively with timed full-length exams. Knowing you've practiced under realistic conditions and understand your weak areas—and have a plan to address them—significantly reduces anxiety. Your tutor can also help you develop a positive mindset by tracking progress, celebrating score improvements, and teaching you how to manage stress on test day.
The best MCAT tutors combine deep content knowledge with expertise in test-taking strategy and student coaching. Look for tutors who have strong MCAT scores themselves, understand the nuances of each section (especially CARS strategy), and can explain complex concepts in ways that make sense to you. Equally important is a tutor who can analyze your practice test data to identify patterns, customize their teaching to your learning style, and help you build test-taking confidence. Varsity Tutors matches you with expert tutors who excel at all three—they know the material, they know the test, and they know how to teach effectively.
