Session Summaries by LSAT Tutors

Hillsboro, OR LSAT tutoring
The student and I worked on reading comprehension today. Her previous prep course taught some inefficient passage selection methods, and we discussed not spending as much time pre-reading the questions. I showed her how I recommend diagramming/ roadmapping a passage, and how it allows you to predict answers and paraphrase ideas to move through the questions more efficiently.

Hillsboro, OR LSAT tutoring
The student took LSAT preptest 60 for her homework, but struggled with the LG section, followed by the same on LR and RC. She attempted everything, but didn't feel like she really had any idea what to do with the questions or how to approach the passages. That's fine - it's exactly what taking a diagnostic test is supposed to do. We spent the session working through the set-ups and rules for the four Logic Games from her test. With some help, she grasped and used several new concepts. Her understanding of the rules was good - her hesitation on the games was in making deductions when she combined her rules, which is about where a student should be at this point. We were able to use that section to look at sequencing/ matching hybrid games, grouping games, and games with a limited option created by the rules. For homework, I assigned the questions that were attached to the games we went over from her exam, to be done with our better understanding of the rules and deductions. Next session, we will focus on identifying the different question types in Logical Reasoning and what those questions ask for.
