Certified Tutor
Currently tutoring middle school students in mathematics, grammar, and writing, I bring over five decades of diverse teaching experience spanning music, technology, and academics. As a former professional musician who served as the lead guitarist in the U.S. Navy's Atlantic Fleet rock band, I understand both the technical and collaborative aspects of musicianship. My approach to teaching guitar and piano is grounded in hands-on experience performing, composing, and working with musicians of all skill levels.
My career path has given me exceptional versatility as an educator. After my naval service, I transitioned into software development, becoming an early specialist in electronic data interchange (EDI). During my 20+ year technology career, I regularly created and delivered presentations to both business stakeholders and technical teams, developing a keen ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences. This experience has proven invaluable in my teaching approach, allowing me to break down complicated subjects into manageable, understandable components.
As a college reference librarian with both undergraduate and master's degrees, I've helped many students with their research, writing, and academic development. This combination of musical, technical, and academic expertise allows me to connect with students of all ages and learning styles.
Whether you're:
- a middle school student seeking help with math or writing,
- a beginner seeking to master your first chord progressions,
- an intermediate player ready to explore ensemble work,
- a student needing assistance with research and writing,
- someone looking to understand technical concepts...
I'll provide patient, personalized instruction tailored to your goals.
My experience includes:
- Current middle school tutoring
- One-on-one instrumental instruction
- Small group music workshops
- Technical training and presentation
- Academic writing and research guidance
- Grammar and structure optimization
- Performance techniques and group dynamics
I believe learning should be both challenging and enjoyable. Through methodical instruction and real-world insights, I help students develop not just skills, but a genuine passion for their subjects. My diverse background allows me to draw unique parallels between different fields, often finding innovative ways to explain concepts by relating them to other areas of knowledge. Let's work together to unlock your potential, whether in mathematics, music, reading, writing, or technology.
