I am currently a Mechanical Engineering student attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. My excitement for teaching comes from working part-time for a local tutoring company while attending university. Hey everyone! I am a graduate student at Boston College studying Physics in hopes of one day becoming a Professor. Before Boston, I was an undergraduate at State University of New York Binghamton in upstate NY. There I earned a BS in Mathematical Physics, a BA in Mathematics and a MS in Physics. I have a strong background in Physics and Math and I absolutely love teaching these subjects. I really enjoy helping students overcome the gaps in understanding tough concepts, watching them understand the material, succeed on exams and seeing how proud and accomplished they are. I started tutoring when I was 17 years old doing Basic Math and as I have gone through my schooling I have begun to expand my teaching to all Mathematics classes and Physics classes when needed. I have tutored privately and through the library at Binghamton University. I particularly love tutoring because not only do I get to help a student succeed but I improve on my teaching skills at the same time. Wanting to be a professor is doing more than research to me; I want to inspire students and show them the wonder and excitement I see in Physics and Math.Aside from doing Physics and teaching, I really love exercising. Being mentally and physically fit is really important to me. I also enjoy listening to all kinds of music, reading, cooking and playing tennis.

I have two years of experience conducting groundwater remediation research for legacy contaminants such as trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene for the Savannah River National Laboratory. In addition, I have worked at Southern Nevada Water Authority to investigate new technology for on-site monitoring of regulated contaminants. I have a deep passion for engineering and enjoy tutoring all topics related to engineering.

I am a recent graduate from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN where I studied Math and Classics. While at St. Olaf I spent three years tutoring for the on-campus Academic Support Center. I love being able to share my passion for Math and Latin, both of which are generally under appreciated subjects that people often struggle with. I also served as a U.S. Marine for 6 years, where I spent much of my free time learning, memorizing, and studying new math concepts. I am constantly combing over my knowledge of all subjects of mathematics from the most basic to the most advanced in an effort to refine my knowledge and my teaching methods. I like to teach math the way I wish I was taught growing up; I always wanted to know "why?", and I wasn't always given an answer. Because of this, I've spent a lot of time really trying to fundamentally understand the subject so there are no questions we can't answer together. I've spent a lot of time connecting math concepts to real-life examples, and helping students make these connections too is very rewarding.While my professional expertise is in within the realm of math, I'm passionate about other subjects like history, languages, and politics. I've always felt that it was important to be well-rounded. This is why I joined the military, have a degree in math, have traveled the world, and continue to pursue my education in all subjects. I recently retired from 39 years of teaching nearly all subjects and levels of High School Math and Science (primarily Physics), along with some Theatre! During my time in the high school classroom, I taught Biology through AP, Chemistry, and Physics through AP 1 and AP C. I have also taught most subjects in high school Math, including Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and AP Calculus AB. My favorite subjects to teach and tutor are Physics at any level and Algebra 2 or Precalculus.I have a Master's Degree in Molecular Biology from Vanderbilt University, and a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Trinity College in Hartford, CT (my home state, though I have lived in Jacksonville, FL, for the past nearly 40 years). I have also taught as an adjunct professor at most of my local area's colleges and universities.My teaching and tutoring style center on student-based learning, allowing students to solve their own problems with "leading questions" and not providing a simple step-by-step solution. I am proud to say that, over the past 30-plus years, I have had many of my students go on to post-secondary education in Math, Physics, and Engineering.In my spare time, I enjoy theatre (directing and acting), singing, musical theatre, film, writing, reading, and travel. I have lived in Texas all my life. I’ve moved from Houston to Austin and back again. I attended the University of Texas at Austin where I pursued a degree in sound engineering and recording technology with an emphasis in Pre-Med and Pre-Law. I plan on attending an institution where I can achieve a medical doctorate simultaneously with a degree in jurisdictional prudence.Five years at the UT has taught me how to take in complicated information, process it and teach it to fellow students. In a more professional atmosphere, I have helped students achieve their academic goals through tutoring on a high school level.That being said, there is a certain thrill that I have when I see someone comprehend a subject that was previously foreign to them. I have seen the look regarding subjects from an elementary level to a collegiate level. Regardless of what subject I am working with someone on, I will strive to make sure the student understands.Personally, I have an easily approachable personality. I lean towards Math and Computer Science (especially the more conceptual, proof-based aspects of these fields) because I like the challenge of solving problems. As such I try to emphasize understanding of underlying concepts to optimize both long-term information retention and usefulness.Outside of Academia I'm interested in Taekwondo, Calisthenics, Music Production, Gaming, entrepreneurship, and trying out new things. I want to be able to do a backflip and run a mile in under five minutes. Learning languages has been a hobby of mine for a while as well, but I haven't had the time as of recent. I'm thinking of learning some German in the near future though.

I also was a debate instructor at my local middle school for four years. Outside of school, I was a volunteer martial arts instructor for five years.
