I am graduate from Kelley School of Business, Indiana University. I studied Information Systems with a major in Business Intelligence and Analytics. I also did a two year fellowship with Teach for India where I got the chance to teach students. I believe that teaching requires a lot of hard work and effort as it is very important for the teacher to look at things from the student's perspective. My tutoring style is structured on the principle that not every person learns the same way. It's not always how you were taught the material, but how it was received. If it was never received and learned by the student, they were never taught.I teach Sciences (chemistry, biology), and Math and have an Arizona Department of Education Substitute Teaching Certificate. I have my Master's in Forest Resources but I tell everyone it's in Wood Chemistry. I enjoy the challenge of solving problems and I have used that as my basis for careers I have chosen.Here is a little of my Philosophy of Teaching.....Learning is, of course, the main purpose of education. I feel that the concept of learning should be molded around three steps. First, learn and understand the material presented. Second, independent thought is essential to the development of every student. Being able to form unique independent ideas to solve problems is the next step in the formal learning process. Finally, the use of learned concepts in new situations is essential for the student to prove understanding. By using understood information, students should be able to apply what they have learned to new situations presented to them by the teacher and in the future, by life. I am currently an honors undergraduate student at The Ohio State University studying Data Analytics with a focus on Biomedical and Public Health Analysis. During my senior year I received a NASA Space Grant and began research with the U.S. Geological Survey Astrogeology Research Center in Flagstaff, AZ. This project eventually became my Master's Thesis.I graduated a second time from Northern Arizona University with a Master's Degree in Applied Physics. My research emphasis was planetary science, which allowed me to become very involved with the U.S.G.S. My planetary studies required me to not only focus on the physics of planets, but also on their geology. As such, I have a broad range of academic backgrounds, including astronomy, astrobiology, field geology, and geomorphology. I've even assisted in research at the Sudbury Impact Structure in Ontario, Canada and attended numerous scientific conferences.During my graduate studies I taught three different lab courses: Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, and Life in the Universe. These were intended for non-physics-major students, so I have had extensive practice in bringing even the most advanced concepts down to a level that any student can understand. The lab courses were also relatively small (between 10 and 20 students). The small class sizes allowed me to learn to teach with hands-on methods as well as lecture-style methods, many times in a one-on-one setting.I love to teach, plain and simple. To witness a student truly understand a concept is very rewarding for both the student and the teacher. They say knowledge is power. Then to understand the universe (even just a small fraction of it) is power, indeed. SCIENCE!!!

I believe that with a strong motivation to work hard, and some encouragement, that we're all capable of excelling at math despite however difficult it may be.Working as a ninth grade math teacher in a public school in Mozambique as a Peace Corps Volunteer I've had experience teaching and tutoring hundreds of students. Additionally, I have worked with kids as young as elementary school up to adults to understand algebra, arithmetic, geometry and calculus in English as well as in Spanish. I am also equipped to tutor beginning and intermediate Spanish learners.As a tutor, I consider the student's prior knowledge of subject matter as well as his/her strengths, and difficulties when approaching a manner of instruction. Moving at a slow rate, I provide explanations and examples of the concepts at hand and then allow the student opportunities to test his/her knowledge. I am student at Wright State University (WSU) in Dayton Ohio. I just finished up a Bachelor of Science in physics and graduated in September 2015. At WSU I had an exciting opportunity to teach a few of the general physics lab sections for the Physics Department as a student employee. The labs I taught each semester from January 2013 to May 2015 corresponded to General Physics (I) and (II). The experiences I had teaching developed my ability to communicate and share my knowledge with less experienced students. I know how to approach teaching in a way that allows students to actually leave the course with a sense of accomplishment and having learned something useful. I am currently available for and enjoy tutoring the following subjects: Math, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Algebra 3/4, Pre-calculus, Calculus 1, and Differential Equations.My approach to teaching emphasizes conceptual understanding, the development of critical thinking skills as well as problem solving skills.
