I love helping kids to understand and appreciate the applications of math. I volunteered as a mentor with middle school students while attending the College of William & Mary, where I received a BS in Mathematics. After college, I worked as a tutor at a public high school, teaching algebra and geometry. More recently, I received an MS in Statistics from Virginia Commonwealth University, where I tutored undergraduate students as a teaching assistant. I believe that tutoring works best if the tutor and student work together to figure out how to best help the student learn. My goal is to help the student become independent and empowered in their education. I am available for in person and online tutoring.

I graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in English Language and Literature, which is the subject area that I am most passionate about. My main areas of focus were British Romanticism and Modern American Literature, but I also love contemporary fiction, personal development / spirituality nonfiction, theater, and public speaking. Over the past nine years, I have served as an instructor at two large outdoor educational programs; I taught as a certified ropes course instructor and English tutor for grades 6-12. In my view, teaching and tutoring the Language Arts allows us to help students connect to their higher selves and see the power in their own individual voices. This is what I hope to infuse in each student with whom I interact.Teaching and public speaking have been great passions of mine since I was a child, and I am currently transitioning into this profession in a full-time career capacity. My instructional style is open, compassionate, and ethical.Outside of the language arts, my interests and specialties are wide. I love yoga (and am hoping to become a certified instructor someday), music and all other performing arts, blogging, and health/wellness advocacy. I also love to read as often as possible.I value making genuine, honest, and meaningful connections with everyone I meet, especially my students. Because of this, I aim to approach tutoring from a place of compassion and mutual understanding.

I am currently a rising Sophomore at Virginia Commonwealth University majoring in Computer Science and a minor in Finance. I have been private tutoring for almost 3 years and specialize in improving SAT and ACT Math scores. I have taken 11 AP classes at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology including Calculus AB and scored a 5. I have also scored a perfect 800 on the SAT Math 2 subject test and 36 on ACT Math. As the Co-President of the StartupTJ club at his school, I enjoy guiding motivated students through the process of launching their own profitable business. In my free time, I love to play basketball, golf, and catch my Boston sports teams play.

I am a recent Biomedical Engineering graduate who is pursuing a Master's in Public Health at Virginia Commonwealth University. This career path has trained me to integrate math, science and the humanities together to form systems and programs to provide quality of life for all. I additionally have a passion for education, whether in creating educational programs or tutoring. My favorite subjects to tutor are math or science, however I am confident in most subjects at the High School Level including Latin. I work to stand in the shoes of the student to adopt their perspective to find new, unique ways to educate.
