All my life, I was always curious about how the human body work. A growing interest in understanding the origin, growth, and function of living species led me to major in Biology. I started at Miami Dade College as pre-med and transfer to Florida International University (FIU) where I received my bachelor of Sciences in Biology major. While I was attending FIU I worked as a Peer-Led Tutoring Leader at MDC, where I guided and mentored students who struggled with mathematics, chemistry, and biology. My experience tutoring other student help me understand the materials better by trying different techniques for problem solving. I also enhanced my interpersonal, communication, and team-building abilities and improved my leadership skills. After graduating from FIU, I felt the need to enhance my science background by enrolling to the Biomedical Science program at Barry University. Tutoring others helped me to extend my knowledge and be able to build my ability to get involve, and demonstrate my compassion and commitment in these areas. My interest in science and my natural curiosities to the well-being of others are the reasons that I enjoyed tutoring.Besides tutoring, I enjoy traveling and learn about different culture, and also play soccer.

I am a graduate of Capella University, where I received my Master's of Human Services. For over 14 years, I have been a special education teacher, as well as implementing an online ESL tutoring program for Chinese students learning English as a second language. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English and History. In my experience helping struggling students prepare for Standardized Tests, we always seem to have the most fun reviewing specific English learning objectives. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy listening to audiobooks, traveling, and exploring new restaurants.

Empowering people to be their best selves is incredibly rewarding for me. As a young adult, it had been my plan to become a teacher. During my years at community college, I was a Mathematics Tutor to adults. After graduating Magna Cum Laude with a degree in History in 2000, I became a Substitute Teacher for a short time for special education and third grade classes. I enjoyed my tutoring and substitute teaching experiences very much.After college, I accepted a series of positions outside the education field. These roles included Claims Adjuster, Office Manager, Proposal Coordinator, Technical Editor, Graphic Designer, and Wedding Photographer. More recently, however, I have been working as a Substitute Teacher for students in Kindergarten through eighth grade. These more recent experiences have felt like a "coming home" for me.I love learning, and I've always enjoyed being immersed in academic environments. More importantly, I love helping others learn. I have the patience and compassion to help students who may be struggling with their studies. I also possess the creativity to challenge students who are ready to take their learning to the next level.

I am passionate about helping students because I think it is important to take ownership of your learning and part of that is being able to find help when needed. I have been tutoring online for a few years. I got my BA in psychology at Christopher Newport University and my MA in applied psychology at Liberty University. My favorite subject to tutor is research methods and statistics for psychology. I enjoy the topics and have experience presenting concepts in a way that makes them easier to understand. I would describe my teaching/ tutoring style as accessible and approachable. It is important to meet students where they are at and help them see that challenging concepts don't have to be so scary.

I recently graduated with my master's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting. My credentials also include a bachelor's degree in accounting and an associate degree in Business Administration. I have tutored both math and accounting for years because I enjoy teaching and learning. I am not currently preparing for my CPA exams. I tutor Pre-Algebra-College Algebra. The accounting course includes but is not limited to Financial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting (1 &2), Principles of Accounting (1 &2), and Managerial Accounting. I am also available for Professional Certification, specifically with an insurance license.

My goal as a teacher and tutor is to break concepts down to make things easier to understand. In other words, I don't want to make things harder than they need to be. I use technology as much as possible and like to find resources that I can provide to my students to make their academic careers more enjoyable and manageable. I retired from the US Navy in 2015 after serving for 22 years on active duty. I am enjoying my retirement and each opportunity I get to work with the wide variety of students here on Varsity.
