I graduated from Georgia State University. I received my B.A in English with a focus on Creative Writing. I also have a minor degree in Entertainment Media Management. During college, I spent a great deal of time mentoring middle school and high school students. I held the position of Leadership Liaison which means I taught lectures on becoming a leader and building a personal brand. My goal with each interaction with each student is to get them on the path to self-guided discovery and growth. After graduation, I became a nanny for children under the age of 5. We worked on early childhood development and focused on phonics. I am passionate about helping students because no one should have to face challenges alone. One person can provide one word and change your perspective.My focus as a tutor is English, Composition, and Creative Writing. As a student of English and the written word, I believe communication is the central thread to all beings on the planet. Learning how to tailor your communication style to your audience is the key to understanding people and their lives.Outside of academia, I am passionate about dance, music, art, and culture. I enjoy visiting art exhibits, dance performances, music concerts, and watching documentaries just to name a few. I look forward to working with the great minds of the present and future.

I have always appreciated education and the many ways it is relevant to our life. I am a recent college graduate from UC Riverside with a BA in Psychology. Being able to say that I have a college education is a privilege and an honor to me because I feel I am making a difference in my life and my family's life being the first one to graduate from college. Along the way I had many struggles and difficulties being an immigrant to the US. I did not know English or had any friends or family other than my parents and brothers. I worked really hard and good people supported me in my journey. I know how hard getting an education can be and how students can feel overwhelmed with accomplishing their dreams. That is why I would do my best as a Varsity Tutor to influence and help students grow in their journey as productive members of our society. The journey starts from a young age and developing good habits and a positive mind set is valuable from an early age. I am delighted to be part of Varsity Tutors and making a difference in students life.

The best part of tutoring is that I can provide a caring, supportive environment in which students can take risks to achieve success. It's important that students believe in their ability to improve over time. From my experience with immigrant students I know that difficulties with Algebra are caused by a weak foundation in Arithmetic; specifically, fractions and division. And difficulties with fractions and division are rooted in weak multiplication skills. A student that makes a 100 on the Khan Academy 4th Level End of Course will cruise to a B in Algebra because they can SEE the values changing in a function without constantly referring to the calculator.To take my own advice, I started in K (Khan Academy) and have worked thru 77% of Algebra 2 with incidental work in Trig, etc. in 3 years; this was done with breaks as long as 6 months between sessions and progress really slowed down during Algebra 2. I wasn't obsessed with the project but I did work all the problems. It was humbling to see how awful my test taking skill had become but I learned the connections between Arithmetic and higher math content.For study habits, I refer students to What Smart Students Know. I have a 1-page synopsis that I send to all my students.For Reading/English work, I use the First and Last technique and Teach to Learn regimen.I only work with people who want to actually learn (for whatever reason). I'm not going to do your homework for you.

I started work at MD Anderson Cancer Hospital two month later. In 2017 I started Medical school. During my first two years in medical I served in the Honors program as a tutor, teacher's assistant and a lead. I have vast experience not only in nursing, but in medicine. I decided on medicine to get a deeper understand of why we do what we do as nurses. In fact I was able to take so many math courses in high school that I was except from taking additional math courses in college.I love motivating people to work hard and reach their potential. I recently completed an MA in French Studies from New York University, following an MA in European Union Studies and a BA with High Distinction in History from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The study of History is my passion, and there are few things that I enjoy more than getting the opportunity to share this passion with others. As part of my History Honors program in undergrad, I was able to help tutor other students in these subjects, including preparing for exams. I also have experience in providing peer reviews and constructive critiques in graduate level writing in multiple fields. Coming from a family of teachers, education has always been a central value in my life, and I try to use this love of learning to help create the best experience I can for my students.
