I am a recent medical school graduate currently taking a research year. I used to tutor with Varsity Tutors before matriculating into medical school, and coming back to assist my fellow medical professionals with USMLE tutoring feels like somewhat of a homecoming. During my time with students, I feel like patience is one of the most important things when trying to get through to a student, and coincidentally, my name means 'patience is good' in my native language. I look forward to helping students understand what they never thought they would be able to master, and I feel a personal sense of accomplishment when I can help a student work through their apprehensions to get to this stage.

I am currently a senior at Florida International University and will be graduating this fall with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. I plan on attending graduate school next year to receive a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology. Prior to becoming a psychology major, I was studying chemistry and used to be a tutor for this program that was available to students taking Introductory Chemistry at FIU. I am passionate about tutoring because I love seeing students understand material that they previously could not. Growing up, I never really enjoyed science until I reached high school. My biology teacher was the first person who I was actually able to learn from and having that experience, genuinely understanding the material from what was my weakest subject, completely changed how I felt about school. Academic success can lead to many opportunities and a bright future. I hope I can help students achieve their goals and feel that they are capable of succeeding in school!

I am a graduate of Belhaven College in Jackson, MS. I have degrees in Psychology and Elementary Education. I also have 32 hrs of Microbiology specific classes. I am currently working towards my ESE (Exceptional Student Education) certification. I also participated in and completed the University of Utah's Summer Genetics Institute, summer 2014. I have taught in Pasco Co. for 8 yrs. For most of those 8 yrs I have taught on a mostly individual basis. I tutor Biology, Life Science, Physical Science and Psychology. Biology is my favorite subject to tutor. I really enjoy genetics and showing students how genetics affects them. I believe that all students can learn, it just may take longer for some students than others or they may need it explained in a different manner. I try to use techniques that meet each learning style. I particularly enjoy hands on projects and watching/seeing what students come up with. I also enjoy the forensic side of science and using it to teach science concepts. In my spare time, I enjoy reading suspense novels, working in the yard- particularly the flower beds and caring for orchids, watching action movies and spending time with my family.

I am an educator of 15+ years, primarily in English/humanities, though I occasionally dabble in math/science and such. I hold a Masters in Education specializing in secondary education, but I've worked with a wide variety of student demographics: K-12, college/university, returning students, ESL/ELL, gifted and/or reluctant learners, etc. I enjoy the challenge of stepping outside of my comfort zone in terms of teaching assignments, and I believe my passion for being in the classroom rubs off on my students. My teaching philosophy includes having a learner-centered growth mindset that takes into account students' social-emotional health and personalized learning needs. I enjoy both the in-person and virtual classroom, and am a passionate advocate of both standards-based learning and the STEAM curriculum. I believe I am an approachable, efficient, and competent teacher/tutor whom students can tell genuinely cares about their academic success and personal well-being. I look forward to acclimating myself into the Varsity Tutors culture. Nice to 'meet' you!

As a recent college graduate of Tulane University, I understand the hustle and bustle of studying for tests and writing long essays. As a tutor, I am here for you, or for your child, to help them succeed academically and ease the stress of being a student. My major in Sociology made writing and editing papers second nature for me, and my major in Dance taught me how to be creative with problem-solving and teaching. My best tutoring subject would definitely be essay writing/editing because I know what a good paper should look like. Friends have come to me in the past to help them edit not only essays, but legal documents! Additionally, my high scores on the ACT show that the ways I prepared for my ACT were successful, and I can help you in the same ways.Previous teaching experience includes teaching choreography! I have taught young kids ages 3-6, musical theater kids with little training, as well as highly trained collegiate dancers. I understand the need to adjust my teaching style depending on the level and age of my students.Interests outside of academia include dance and music. I was Co-Captain, Vice President, and Social Media Manager of the Tulane Shockwave Dance Team, the official dance team of Tulane University. I also served as Treasurer and Public Relations Manager of the NJBeats A Cappella Group, Tulane's premiere Jewish a cappella group!I will always tutor as I would want to be tutored, which is with patience, understanding, and my full, undivided attention. I genuinely care that you, or your child, succeeds, and I will do my absolute best to ensure that happens!

I am fortunate; I get to do the best job in the world. While teaching is my second career, it was always what I wanted to do.When I graduated from college, I was offered a position with my college's admissions and marketing office, where I had been working to put myself through school. It was a tremendous opportunity, and launched an eighteen-year career helping high school students make important decisions about their futures, and navigate an often complex admissions and financial aid system. I loved working with students, being around bright, engaging people, and doing work that made a difference. But each time I walked through a high school to present a workshop on writing college essays or preparing for college interviews, I was reminded of how deeply I still wanted to be in a classroom. So I took the plunge, and now spend my days teaching social studies to great students at a great school. I have taught world history, American history, sociology, psychology, economics, and even developed a high school course in teaching for students seeking a career in education. I am passionate about understanding how the past has shaped the present, and helping students recognize their critical role in protecting and preserving democracy. In addition to teaching course curricula, I work with students on writing skills, standardized test preparation, and college essays, because all of these skills will help them reach their academic goals. As a teacher, I believe that it is critical to help students develop the ability to regulate their own learning, and implement meta-cognitive strategies that will serve them in college and beyond. When I'm not teaching, I am a mom to a high school sophomore, a long-distance mom to two college students, a gardener who grows lots of organic vegetables, and an avid reader of anything historical. If I can help you in a specific subject area, or with essays, test preparation, or homework support, either face-to-face or on-line, let me know!

Becoming a physician was no easy feat, and neither were all those years of school and standardized tests along the way! But I didn't do it alone. I had tutors help me every step of the way. Not only did they help me to boost my grades, but they provided me with academic confidence and mentoring, all of which made me realize that my greatest goals could be a tangible reality. Now I couldn't be happier in my career as a surgeon in training.I have ever since been "paying it forward," educating high school and college level students, and now medical students. The greatest satisfaction is seeing my students get that "ah ha!" moment when everything comes together, and then seeing them go on to accomplish what they always thought was impossible. Now that I have some free time while doing research, I'm excited to give students that same confidence and mentorship that my tutors gave me.
