My area of expertise is mathematics, specifically, SAT Math, SAT II Math level 1 and 2, and AMC 12. It goes without saying that in order to excel in these exams, the student must possess a solid foundation in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus.But first and foremost, it is important that each student identifies the reason that he or she is studying for. Once that goal is vividly envisioned by the student, he or she will find enjoyment and satisfaction in understanding and applying new concepts as the student progresses towards his or her goal one step at a time. After we gain some momentum, it is simply a matter of time before the student masters each mathematical concept.I teach and study math with great passion, and I like to pass on my enthusiasm to my students with patience, challenges, and without overwhelming them or giving them the answers.

I am a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, GA, where I received my Bachelor of Sciences in Anthropology and Human Biology with a minor in Predictive Health. After I graduated, I worked as a laboratory assistant at a cardiology lab at Emory University School of Medicine. While I am interested in chemistry, math among others in STEM, I am very passionate about biotechnology and general biology including genetics, physiology, and cell biology. As an aspiring dentist, I am currently working towards getting a dental degree. During my undergraduate career, I had several experiences of helping other students with learning materials and quiz/exam preparation. I am excited to have another opportunity to help other students again through Varsity Tutors because I truly believe that education is absolutely imperative to a better quality of life and that everyone is fully capable of learning and making potentials to reality. As for tutoring, I put much emphasis on active participation and positive reinforcement. A learning environment should stay interactive, fun, but challenging. If learning is fun, hands-on, and informative, it will be more likely that students will take an active role in their education and strive to reach further. Students in Korea were taught to memorize information. They were not taught how to think critically or to ask questions. They were taught to be obedient and to trust what their elders told them. I was shocked because this was against everything that I believed an education should be. I want my students to think outside the box and to think critically. I do not want my students to believe everything I tell them just because I am the teacher. I don't want my students to just accept things that they do not fully understand. I want my students to question me if they think I am wrong, do their own research, and decide what they believe is true based on their own experiences and observations. These will be the most important lesson that I teach my students.I believe that for a child to be truly successful in life it is important that they have a strong sense of what is right and wrong, the ability to think critically and to ask questions, the heart to care for those around them, and a love for learning. I will strive to help my students become successful, not only in their studies, but also in their path to becoming responsible, caring adults. This is my goal as an educator. As John Steinbeck once wrote, “I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that there are as few as there are any other great artists. Teaching might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit.”
