I am looking to use my degree in Creative Writing, in combination with my work experience as a middle school ELA teacher and my experience as an English teacher in Korea, in a an alternative way to a teaching position. While tutoring and working as an operations fellow at Great Oaks Legacy Charter Schools (GOLCS) through AmeriCorps my role included providing mathematics and ELA tutorials to special needs students and developing the curriculum for the exceptional learns team. Also, I spent my morning supporting the main office with daily tasks such as stocking supply closets with school supplies, delivering weekly fliers, and creating take home folders for scholars. During the summer I enrolled in teachNOLA as a teaching fellow and gained more experience by working as a middle school ELA teacher. Prior to coming to Korea, I worked within the Jefferson Parish school district. My daily teaching routine included providing young scholars with ELA instruction, providing academic support to 8th grade special needs students and developing lesson plans that suit the needs of my students. Currently, I am working for Chungdahm Learning Institute. Here I take on the responsibility of teaching both test taking and comprehension classes for elementary and middle school aged English Language Learners, leading discussion based literature classes, and evaluating incoming student's reading, writing and listening abilities.

I have real world experience when it comes to writing and editing. I worked for a local magazine in Mississippi for nearly 7 years and learned a lot while there. As a published writer, I can help students understand the importance of the written word and proper communication. These are skills every student should know. I also have prior experience tutoring a special needs student in English and writing. My passion for writing and literature is reflected to my students and I do my best to make learning as fun as possible.

Hey y’all! I am a 25-year-old female with an interesting background. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara in Global Studies with a minor in Spanish back in 2012. After graduating I worked for AmeriCorps as a volunteer reading and literacy tutor in an elementary school for a year. I then moved to Houston where I obtained my Masters in Public Health with a major in health promotion and behavioral science from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. While working towards my masters, I worked as both a teaching assistant at the graduate level as well as a tutor for a private family in the area. As soon as I received my graduate degree, my husband and I moved back to California where his company needed him. While there I worked for a non-profit in my hometown, and his company recently relocated us back to Houston. So I am back, and now working towards getting a second bachelor’s degree in nursing. While my career is focused on health, I have a passion for education and literacy in particular. I am able to tutor the following subjects: Spanish I, Spanish II, English, Phonics, STAAR Grades 3-8, Elementary School Reading, Elementary School Writing, Middle School Reading, Middle School Writing and Middle School Reading Comprehension. My favorite subjects to tutor are phonics and phonemic awareness because they are the building blocks of literacy, but I also love to tutor anything related to reading and writing! When I tutor a student I really aim to gain an understanding of the student’s learning style during my first 1-2 sessions with them. This then allows me to tailor my teaching to their learning style, making it easier for them to grasp difficult concepts.Outside of school and work, I love to run, hike, kayak, paddleboard and ski. I was so lucky to grow up in the mountains of Southern California where I could do all of these activities whenever I wanted. Being back in Houston it is a bit more challenging to find places to do these things, but I make do.Thanks for considering me as your tutor!
