Test prep tutoring can help your high school student develop healthy study habits. Tutors have been through the same exams and know the best methods for learning the most amount of information in the least amount of time. Also, they can teach you how to take effective notes to study from. A test prep tutor can use many methods to help your student prepare for their tests. If your student is a visual learner, the tutor can create flashcards with vital test information for quick memorization. For hands-on students, the tutor may create games and practice exams to keep your student active and engaged in the material.
Test prep tutoring allows students to work at their own pace. If your student is struggling with the mathematics portion of an exam, the tutor can slow it down and focus more time there. Alternatively, if your child has mastered the science material in preparation for a test, your tutor can skip over that unit and free up that time to spend studying another topic. Furthermore, test prep tutoring allows you to get continuous feedback. You won't have to wonder how your student is doing. The tutor can create up-to-date progress reports that show you where your student is now and how far they have come. The tutor can also let you know if your child is behind in any areas and how they plan to correct that.

Recent Test Prep Tutoring Session Notes
We continued to work though practice problems this evening. Some of the material is trig based, which the student has yet to learn at school, but overall things are looking a good bit better than they were a few weeks ago. We did a timed, 15 question, 15 minute session at the end of our tutoring session. The plan is to switch to science for a bit, and measure the progress after a couple of weeks' break from math.
The student and I went over the Reading section today. I demonstrated how to read the ACT passages to properly use her time and get the full context. We then practiced these strategies together. When the student completes all the homework, I will be able to give her more targeted advice on which passages to attempt.
The student and I worked through ACT Math, Verbal, and Science Sections together. The student did very well on the ACT Verbal section, and it was decided that when we meet again on Thursday (the 11th) we'll concentrate primarily on the ACT Math section.
The student and I went over the majority pf the math assessment test that he did at our last session. We will continue to work through these types of problems with examples.
The student and I continued to work through ACT Math section practice problems this week. We focused on using a strategy for each problem to identify what the problem is asking, what we know from the question and various strategies to solve different kinds of problems. The student seems to understand most of the material covered so far except for percentages - they still seem to trip her up a little. Overall, I think the student is becoming more confident in her ability to solve these problems.
The student "taught" me a few concepts from math, and she did a pretty good job - especially with the material she had been really uncertain on before. We also went through parts of a math section, where she was able to get most questions, or understand with just a bit of prompting.
