I attended film school in Philadelphia graduating with a BFA in Film Production and a Minor in Creative Writing. I am a working professional in NYC's media sector. My focus is primarily in the cinematic arts and copy writing. My tutoring background is in essay/academic writing for ESL and native English speakers between the ages of 18 and 22.I also worked in community development teaching children at risk how to read using phonics, art, storytelling, and music to give them a context for the linguistical skills they were developing. As part of my work in community development, I had to give presentations in informal and formal settings to report on the efficacy of the work.My tutoring style is very collaborative. I'm interested in understanding how the student prefers to learn while also introducing new methods. My tutoring motto is "learning and progress are team efforts."Cheers! I look forward to our progress together.

It has been wonderful learning about how childhood development changes with each year. I look forward to being able to work one on one with more children so that they can develop a lifelong passion for learning!

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Neuroscience and Behavior from Columbia University in May 2014 and have been admitted into the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School Class of 2019, where I will begin in August 2015 as I pursue my Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.I taught health education to middle school students and also worked as a tutor for Columbia Athletics. As such, I feel very confident tutoring a wide-range of students, in both their abilities and ages. While I am confident in tutoring a wide-variety of subjects, science is my passion and I have a great love of biology. As a student, I always enjoyed learning most through examples and case studies, and when appropriate, I enjoy bringing in my research and patient experiences as a way to illustrate core concepts. Outside of academics, I was a wrestler for 17 years and enjoy sports, the outdoors, and studying history.

I graduated summa cum laude from Southern Methodist University in 2012. I received my Bachelor of Arts in political science and my Bachelor of Science in economics. After graduating, I immediately moved to New York City to attend Columbia Law School, where I will receive my JD in May, 2015. Throughout undergraduate, I regularly tutored economics, math, and statistics courses at the school's tutoring center, and helped several students to turn around their class performance. I also enjoy helping students prepare for standardized test, whether that be the SAT or the LSAT. Especially with regard to the SAT Math, I love helping students understand the various curveballs that CollegeBoard often throws, and assisting them in achieving better scores than they thought possible. I am also passionate about Texas Rangers baseball, and fill an inordinate amount of my free time with fantasy sports and statistical research on the sport.

Kyle

Algebra Tutor • +22 Subjects

Hello, my name is Kyle. I am a recent graduate from John Jay College with a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy and English, and a minor in Mathematics. College has provided me with the groundwork necessary to expand my ability in critical thinking, and, arguably most important, with the chance to meet professors who were able to extend their passion (in their respective fields of study) to me. Not every class is easy. Some require discipline, and others patience, but all require the skill of a good professor to reach their students. It is after their model that I tutor students -- reach out to their needs and provide them the necessary groundwork to learn, all while showing them how much fun it is!I have tutored High School Mathematics (specifically Algebra 1 and Geometry) for over two years, and Philosophy (primarily in critical thinking and logic) for one and a half years. Mathematics has a very strong connection to Philosophy, thus I have learned to one to support the other, which better assists in understanding the material. I have held individual tutoring sessions as well as group sessions, both allowing me to interact with different students with different needs -- thus I've had much practice in changing my approach to meeting a student's needs.Grammar requires a strong foundation in certain rules. Being an English Major, I have had the luxury of taking a grammar based course, as well as multiple lessons in the rest of my classes. I use what I have learned to proofread students' papers, and do my best to explain techniques that may help for future assignments.Learning is a team effort. I always look for the best interests of my students, thus if there are any suggestions that parents or students have, please feel free to share them. I will respond as quickly as possible to any interested and am ready to help! Feel free to send any questions or schedule an appointment! And always remember: Every person has an ability to learn something.
