As a passionate tutor with over 2 years of experience, I am dedicated to helping students excel in mathematics, particularly in subjects like Algebra, Calculus, and Geometry. Currently pursuing a Bachelor's in Data Science at Utah State University, I leverage my academic background to provide real-world applications that make complex concepts more relatable. My teaching philosophy centers on fostering a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring their understanding. I believe in tailoring my approach to meet each student's unique needs, which not only boosts their confidence but also enhances their academic success. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy engaging in problem-solving challenges and exploring new technologies, which further fuels my enthusiasm for teaching and learning.

I am senior at Brigham Young University with a 4.0 GPA. I am majoring in Exercise Science and am going to go to Physical Therapy school. I am also getting a minor in Psychology. I lived in France for two years and became fluent in the French language. I continue to converse with natives in French. I was a college chemistry TA for three semesters and love teaching chemistry. I did very well on standardized tests. I love to teach and impart knowledge to others in a way that is compatible with individual learning styles.

I was born in New York, NY, and grew up in northern New Jersey attending the local public school system and the Japanese Weekend School of New Jersey. After completing two high school diplomas, I pursued a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Psychology at New York University and worked in New York, NY for six years in private industry. I returned to higher education, moving to Boston where I conducted research, taught, and studied Clinical Psychology. After completing a Master of Liberal Arts in Clinical Psychology at Harvard University, I moved to Salt Lake City, UT to pursue a PhD in Psychology (Clinical Neuropsychology). I am a student at the University of Utah majoring in Mathematics, and I am loving every minute of it. I plan to go Medical School, but I chose Math as my major because it has been a love of mine since elementary school. My favorite part of the week is when I volunteer at the Best Friends Animal Society, and during my free time, I like to read and hang out with my friends. During my time as a tutor, I have found that I love to teach and encourage students because it reminds me of the support that I have day to day as I follow my ambitions.

I am currently a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology, but I have been tutoring ever since I was in elementary school. Because not everyone learns the same way, I feel that it is easy for students to miss certain tidbits or whole subjects in the classroom, and it can quickly feel like it is too late to catch up. My goal is to work together to pick up the pieces that were lost or are close, but not quite there: learning the way you want to learn and the way you learn best rather than having topics taught at you.

I am currently studying Elementary Education at Brigham Young University. I am also minoring in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and Spanish DLI (Dual Language Immersion). I am fluent in Spanish because I lived in Mexico for 18 months, but I also went through the language learning process in high school classes and understand the challenges students face. I love teaching and tutoring anyone with a desire to improve, especially elementary aged students. I try to make learning fun and accessible to each individual student's learning style. In my spare time I like to read, cook, play tennis and paint.

I am from Nashville, Tennessee but have lived in seven different states all over the U.S. I currently attend Brigham Young University and am loving it. I enjoy the one-on-one interaction I get with people when I tutor. Watching people really understand and be excited about learning is what makes it worthwhile for me. The key is to spark the fun and excitement of learning within the student. I have tutored primarily middle and high school students but am comfortable with any age. I tutor many subjects, but am especially proficient in the areas of test preparation, math, and Spanish. I took several AP classes, was on the honor roll, and was blessed to receive a full-tuition National Merit scholarship for college. I currently have an open major but am leaning toward a degree in finance or information systems. I am fluent in Spanish thanks to a two-year mission for my church. Because of this I am now part of a Hispanic volunteer group helping children learn to read more fluently. I played rugby and football, and I love doing things outdoors, whether it be hiking, going to the lake, skiing, or backpacking. I have also traveled to many parts of the world and enjoy having new experiences and learning about other cultures.

I am currently working on obtaining an English Teaching degree to better be able to accomplish that mission. I want to get a job as a high school English teacher after graduating from BYU. I have had several long-term opportunities to tutor, both unpaid and professionally and I recently received my Level 1 Tutoring certificate from the College Reading and Learning Association.

I am a student at Brigham Young University, and am currently an undecided major. I have a passion for tutoring and helping my pupils succeed. I am charismatic, fun, hardworking, spontaneous, and reliable! I am more than a guy with a brain; I have an ability to connect with people on a personal level. As you will see, my various tactics and approaches when it comes to tutoring are as effective as they are unique and engaging.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Layton's 27 schools and all three local school districts. Whether your student attends a school in Davis, Weber, or Box Elder County districts, we match them with tutors who understand the local curriculum standards and can provide personalized support aligned with what they're learning in class.

With an average student-teacher ratio of 23.4:1 in Layton schools, many students benefit from the focused attention that personalized 1-on-1 instruction provides. Tutors can spend dedicated time addressing your student's specific learning gaps, reinforcing concepts taught in class, and building confidence—something that's harder to achieve in a traditional classroom setting where teachers are managing many students at once.

Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who are familiar with Utah's Core Standards and the specific expectations across math, English language arts, science, and social studies. They can help your student master grade-level concepts, prepare for state assessments, and develop the critical thinking skills emphasized in Utah's curriculum framework.

The first session is focused on getting to know your student—their learning style, current strengths, challenges, and goals. The tutor will likely assess where your student stands academically, review recent classwork or test results, and develop a personalized plan for ongoing support. This foundation helps ensure every future session is targeted and effective.

Layton students seek tutoring across a wide range of subjects, with math and English language arts being particularly common, especially as students progress through middle and high school. We also connect students with tutors in science, social studies, test preparation (SAT, ACT, AP exams), and foreign languages. Whatever your student's academic needs, we can match them with an expert tutor.

Varsity Tutors offers flexible pricing options that work with different family budgets. You can choose the frequency and duration of sessions that fit your needs—whether that's weekly support, intensive preparation for an upcoming test, or targeted help with a specific subject. Contact us to discuss your student's needs and find a plan that works for your family.

Many students begin to show increased confidence and understanding within the first few sessions, though the timeline varies depending on the subject, your student's starting point, and how frequently they meet with their tutor. Consistent, regular tutoring tends to produce the strongest results—whether that's improved test scores, better grades, or deeper mastery of challenging concepts. Your tutor will work with you to set realistic goals and track progress.

Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who have strong subject expertise and experience teaching or tutoring students. Each tutor is vetted to ensure they can provide high-quality, personalized instruction. Whether your student needs help with elementary fundamentals or advanced high school coursework, we match them with someone qualified to support their specific needs.
