I love teaching and helping others. I've tutored since High School and my classmates, friends and students always tell me about how much I've made an impact in their lives. I believe everyone can improve and learn--that means YOU too! Ready?

I began tutoring some of my classmates when I was a sophomore in high school. As the years went on I helped more and more people especially in science and math subjects. Back then I really enjoyed it because I was able to help them out while it also helped me study at the same time. Now I study Biology and Business Management at Brigham Young University and continue to help friends and classmates.A lot of my goal is to help people set and accomplish goals in their academic lives, to push oneself a bit more than they thought they could.
I am a graduate of Brigham Young University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in International Relations with an emphasis in Middle Eastern Studies and Arabic. As part of my coursework, I studied Arabic for three years and spent a semester in Amman, Jordan. After graduating, I worked on a U.S. Senate campaign, then interned at a think tank and congressional office in Washington, DC. While at the think tank, I co-authored an article that was published in US News and World Report. I am currently pursuing my juris doctorate (JD) at the University of Georgia School of Law.While an undergraduate, I was a teaching assistant for a political writing and research course and an Islamic studies course. As part of this, I did extensive proofreading and editing of student papers and taught weekly lectures on writing skills and current events. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about reading and writing, SAT prep, and history. I really believe that asking thought-provoking questions is essential for effective teaching. In my spare time I enjoy biking, running, working out at the gym, and reading.
I graduated with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education and a minor in Teaching English as a Secondary Language. I'm a licensed elementary school teacher certified in grades K-6. I taught 4th and 3rd grade, but have spent time in many other grades. My goal is to create a safe and positive learning environment where students not only grow but thrive. There is no better feeling than knowing you've had a small part in shaping a child's future.
I am a current undergrad at Brigham Young University. I am majoring in Public Health and I plan to be a hospital administrator. I also of course have a passion for the Spanish language. I am minoring in Spanish currently and I am excited for the bilingual opportunities that the health care field offers. I fist discovered my interest for Spanish as an eighth grader. I won an award for foreign language at my school and I decided that maybe I should pursue learning more Spanish. I continued to study in high school and then I served an LDS mission in southern Spain. While there I did my best to take advantage of the learning opportunity. Spain has Spanish speakers from central and south america in addition to the native Spaniards. I learned to communicate with many people and perfect my Spanish one step at a time.I had to learn one step at a time and that is my tutoring philosophy. I know that a new language can not be learned overnight. Just like Math or Science it is a learning process that takes time and patience. I work with student to improve, grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, conversation, and whatever they stand in need of. I know how it is to struggle at learning a subject, and I also have experienced the satisfaction parents and students feel as understanding increases.
I am a graduate of Brigham Young University where I received a BA in Spanish translation. My studies included ESL, Social studies, music, international cultures, and editing. During my formal education and since, I have sought out opportunities in the US and other countries to bring people together across cultural barriers. I love language's capacity to express and demonstrate cultural richness and uniqueness.I have helped elementary school children and adults learn English in Montrose, CO, and have helped adults build confidence in speaking and comprehending Spanish in several locations. I tutor for Spanish, ESL, and English.I always hope to be a bridge for people, helping them cross personal barriers of fear or the lack of knowledge and experience, so they can reach their goals and passions. I am a passionate learner, and bring that spark with me when I help others learn. What I like best in a one-on-one learning environment is getting to really know a student's hopes and struggles and then addressing them specifically, so that their efforts result in a personally felt success.I make time in my life to include hiking, camping, working up songs with my family and friends--the more complex the harmony, the better--cooking tasty meals, wood working, gardening, and chasing my chickens out of the garden.
With over ten years of tutoring and teaching experience and multiple advanced degrees, I am the ideal candidate to help students succeed in any academic environment. My educational background includes in-depth study in politics, philosophy, art history, and practical communication (public speaking and performing arts). Specifically, I have an MA in Performance Studies from New York University, an MA in Rhetorical Studies from Hofstra University, and a BA in Political Science (with an emphasis in international development and a philosophy minor).I have taught students of all age levels in public, private, and one-on-one settings. Some of my past experiences include: peer-tutoring throughout high school and my undergraduate education, substitute teaching English, history, government, speech/debate, and drama in a secondary school, organizing and teaching acting and technical theatre at a performing arts summer camp, teaching English, reading comprehension, and writing to gifted/advanced 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students, and assistant coaching collegiate level speech and debate. It is most certainly apparent that my favorite subjects to tutor are writing, public speaking/debate, and performing arts.I want to work to promote a love of art and culture in my students as I am also a working artist. I act, write poetry, create conceptional performance art, and provide curatorial assistance to a gallery in North Brooklyn. You can be assured that any student I work with will cultivate writing, comprehension, and critical thinking skills that will serve them well throughout their academic and professional lives.
I received my English Teaching degree from Brigham Young University. I taught high school English classes for two years before starting a family and beginning work as a part-time tutor. I have tutored for several years in a variety of subjects, but my favorite subjects to tutor are writing and grammar. For the last three years I have tutored almost exclusively in college-level essay writing. I believe every student has the capacity to be a great writer. In each tutoring session, I teach concepts and principles of writing that students can apply immediately and for future writing assignments also. I also enjoy helping students prepare for college admission tests. I am a firm believer in education and the value of a college degree in shaping a person's future. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, baking, hiking, and tennis.
I decided to start tutoring because I feel I have knowledge that can be shared. I wasn't always the best student and look forward to working with students who want to work hard and get better at their chosen subject.
I was born and raised in Mexico, and I have lived in the US since I was 18. I graduated with a BA in history and a minor in Arabic from BYU in 2009. I later went back and took about 15 credits of undergraduate math and statistics. In 2012 I graduated with a Master's of Public Affairs and Applied Statistics from the University of Texas at Austin. My Spanish upbringing has opened some doors to help Spanish learners. During my undergraduate years, I taught Spanish to pay for school. I would tutor students who wanted a down to earth explanation of a Spanish grammatical concept or who simply wanted to practice conversation. I later became an approved court interpreter in Utah and worked on a few arraignments and one trial.I currently work during for a research company writing statistical programs to analyze data. The way I put it is: "I run regressions for a living." I like statistics and I like intuitive interpretations of economic and statistical concepts. I have tutored high school and college students taking their probability, hypothesis testing, regression, and econometric classes. At UT Austin, I took more than 18 credits of graduate statistics and RA'd for an economist there.I love helping people understand concepts. I feed of the faces of students when they get it.
When I lived in Taiwan I had to teach English to students and the thought that kept occurring to me is that: English is way harder than Mandarin!I mean sure ,they have tones and characters. but their grammar NEVER CHANGES (Sooooo nice) In Mandarin there is no "i before e exept after c" nonsense. That's one of the many beauties of the Chinese language it's much more direct than English. You're probably thinking . yeahh....but tones and characters is why mandarin is hard. What if I told you there are little hacks that make learning the material way easier. If we work together I will for sure let you know about them! So much easier than rote memorization! But what if school isn't your thing? That you are a slow learner? Here's the great part, That's what I thought about myself!s I barely graduated high school and now I'm studying to be a Professor of Asian languages at the hardest school in my home state ( a school that happens to have one of the top language programs in the United States.) What Changed? I started to learn on my own terms. So let me help you break your labels if that's the case! Let me and help you get a good score on the quiz if that's all you care about. WHATEVER it is, I want to hit YOUR goals! Because I know I can help you do that with Chinese! Can't wait to work with you!ps I hope you don't mind getting a Taiwanese accent because that's what I have .
