12th Grade math Tutor • +29 Subjects

I am currently a student at Brigham Young University studying Applied Physics. After finishing my degree I am planning on pursuing a master's degree in Aerospace Engineering. Since January 2014 I have worked in the physics help lab at BYU. Throughout this time I have greatly enjoyed helping many students increase their understanding of physics. I love seeing my students have a "light-bulb" moment where suddenly everything we discussed makes sense to them. I think it is extremely important for everyone to have (at least) a basic understanding of math and science as this helps us to better understand our world. I am greatly motivated to teach in a way that my students understand the fundamental principles and not in a way that they can merely get the right answer. I love trying to pass on my enthusiasm for math and science to my students, and I am always looking for ways to show how cool and fun mastering these subjects can be. Although I am most passionate about physics, I also tutor math and Spanish. When I'm not studying or teaching I enjoy swimming, reading (especially Michael Crichton and Orson Scott Card), and exchanging movie quotes with my roommates. Hobbies: art, movies, reading, swimming, writing, books, music, hiking

AP Calculus AB Tutor • +25 Subjects

I'm Garrett and I live in Salt Lake City and I want to help you understand topics in natural science and mathematics. I have a bachelor's degree in geological science (geophysics) from University of Colorado Boulder with a minor in mathematics. Part of my success in college came from the preparation I had from taking AP Calculus and Physics courses in high school. I'm a huge fan of visual aids and examining real-life examples and applications when teaching. I worked as a learning assistant in an astronomy lab course and as a tutor for student athletes in geology while attending CU. I've been honing the ability to craft perfect analogies to help you make sense of mathematical or physical concepts.

AP Calculus BC Tutor • +82 Subjects

I am dedicated to helping my students achieve their full potential as my own personal goal. When I worked as a tutor at the Burbridge Athletics Academic Center at the University of Utah, where I also earned my Bachelors of Science in Physics, I developed a passion for education, which I intend to continue with now that I have moved to Washington DC. I am able to tutor students in Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science, having developed experience as part of my pursuit of that degree. I also have an intense interest in History, which I pursued in my general educational requirements of that same degree. I am a kinesthetic learner, and I believe that the best way to develop an understanding of a subject is to do, rather than watch or listen.

I am a student at Brigham Young University, and am currently an undecided major. I have a passion for tutoring and helping my pupils succeed. I am charismatic, fun, hardworking, spontaneous, and reliable! I am more than a guy with a brain; I have an ability to connect with people on a personal level. As you will see, my various tactics and approaches when it comes to tutoring are as effective as they are unique and engaging. Hobbies: reading, music, writing, art, books, photography

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from all 21 schools across Cedar City's four school districts. Whether your student attends a school in the Iron County School District or another local district, we match them with tutors who understand Cedar City's curriculum standards and can provide personalized support aligned with what they're learning in class.

Cedar City's average student-teacher ratio of 37.6:1 means many students don't get individualized attention in the classroom. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction fills that gap by giving your student dedicated time to ask questions, work through challenging concepts, and receive feedback tailored specifically to their learning style—something that's difficult in larger classroom settings.

Tutors who work with Cedar City students are familiar with Utah's Core Standards and how they're implemented across local schools. They can target specific skills your student needs to master—whether in math, language arts, science, or social studies—and use strategies proven to deepen understanding and build confidence on state assessments.

During the first session, a tutor will assess your student's current level, understand their specific challenges, and learn about their learning style. They'll also discuss your student's goals—whether that's improving grades, preparing for a test, or building skills in a particular subject—so they can create a personalized plan that fits Cedar City's school calendar and your family's schedule.

Cedar City students most frequently seek tutoring in math and language arts, especially as they progress through middle and high school. We also work with students preparing for ACT exams, which are widely taken by Utah high school students, as well as students needing support in science and social studies courses aligned with Utah standards.

Tutoring rates vary based on the subject, grade level, and tutor expertise, but we work with families to find options that fit their budget. We recommend starting with a consultation to discuss your student's needs and get a personalized estimate—there's no obligation, and we can help you understand the investment in your student's academic success.

Absolutely. Tutors work with families to schedule sessions around school, sports, and other activities. Whether your student needs help after school, on weekends, or during school breaks, Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who can be flexible and adapt to your family's unique schedule.

Simply reach out to Varsity Tutors and tell us about your student's needs, grade level, and goals. We'll match them with a qualified tutor who fits their learning style and academic needs. Most families see their student connect with a tutor quickly, and you can start seeing progress within the first few sessions.
