I am currently applying to medical school. You can usually find me reading, listening to music, hiking, and playing games with family and friends.

I am currently a student at Brigham Young University studying Applied Physics. After finishing my degree I am planning on pursuing a master's degree in Aerospace Engineering. Since January 2014 I have worked in the physics help lab at BYU. Throughout this time I have greatly enjoyed helping many students increase their understanding of physics. I love seeing my students have a "light-bulb" moment where suddenly everything we discussed makes sense to them. I think it is extremely important for everyone to have (at least) a basic understanding of math and science as this helps us to better understand our world. I am greatly motivated to teach in a way that my students understand the fundamental principles and not in a way that they can merely get the right answer. I love trying to pass on my enthusiasm for math and science to my students, and I am always looking for ways to show how cool and fun mastering these subjects can be. Although I am most passionate about physics, I also tutor math and Spanish. When I'm not studying or teaching I enjoy swimming, reading (especially Michael Crichton and Orson Scott Card), and exchanging movie quotes with my roommates. I am from Nashville, Tennessee but have lived in seven different states all over the U.S. I currently attend Brigham Young University and am loving it. I enjoy the one-on-one interaction I get with people when I tutor. Watching people really understand and be excited about learning is what makes it worthwhile for me. The key is to spark the fun and excitement of learning within the student. I have tutored primarily middle and high school students but am comfortable with any age. I tutor many subjects, but am especially proficient in the areas of test preparation, math, and Spanish. I took several AP classes, was on the honor roll, and was blessed to receive a full-tuition National Merit scholarship for college. I currently have an open major but am leaning toward a degree in finance or information systems. I am fluent in Spanish thanks to a two-year mission for my church. Because of this I am now part of a Hispanic volunteer group helping children learn to read more fluently. I played rugby and football, and I love doing things outdoors, whether it be hiking, going to the lake, skiing, or backpacking. I have also traveled to many parts of the world and enjoy having new experiences and learning about other cultures.

I am passionate about the broad implications and applications of the Science, Math, and Engineering in our daily lives - and enjoy teaching them to my own kids. Towards this end, I also want to leverage my 20+ years in graduate and post-doctoral science/engineering research, past undergraduate level teaching/tutoring experience in physics, math, geophysics, and scientific computation, along with 10+ years of scientific programming & system administration experience towards STEM tutoring/mentoring at school to college level.

I'm currently working toward graduating from the University of Utah with a degree in Sociology. I tutor mainly math and writing, but am able to tutor in a variety of subjects. I strive to make my tutoring sessions productive and enjoyable by getting students involved and excited about learning.

I am interested in both math and science, while in my free time enjoy fishing and woodworking.

I'm Garrett and I live in Salt Lake City and I want to help you understand topics in natural science and mathematics. I have a bachelor's degree in geological science (geophysics) from University of Colorado Boulder with a minor in mathematics. Part of my success in college came from the preparation I had from taking AP Calculus and Physics courses in high school. I'm a huge fan of visual aids and examining real-life examples and applications when teaching. I worked as a learning assistant in an astronomy lab course and as a tutor for student athletes in geology while attending CU. I've been honing the ability to craft perfect analogies to help you make sense of mathematical or physical concepts.

I am dedicated to helping my students achieve their full potential as my own personal goal. When I worked as a tutor at the Burbridge Athletics Academic Center at the University of Utah, where I also earned my Bachelors of Science in Physics, I developed a passion for education, which I intend to continue with now that I have moved to Washington DC. I am able to tutor students in Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science, having developed experience as part of my pursuit of that degree. I also have an intense interest in History, which I pursued in my general educational requirements of that same degree. I am a kinesthetic learner, and I believe that the best way to develop an understanding of a subject is to do, rather than watch or listen.
