Alison is a Georgia-certified teacher in Middle Grades Mathematics and Middle Grades Science (Toccoa Falls College, 2010). In addition to being certified in these subjects for grades 4-8, Alison has an extreme passion for Mathematics in general and youth of all ages. Furthermore, as a part of further pursuing her Bachelor's Degree in Education, she has taken part in various teaching observation and internship experiences since her junior year of high school and has been professionally involved with a classroom setting since 2010. Her career thus far has included substitute teaching (including long-term within a Math classroom), working as a Technology paraprofessional, and as a Grade 7 Science teacher. She has gained experience tutoring students in Mathematics from the ages of Grade 6 to college level. On the college level, she often assisted students in Mathematics courses and edited academic papers from a variety of classes and levels. She has also gained experience in relating to youth as a positive adult influence through working in her church's youth group.

I graduated Magna cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in Education from Toccoa Falls College. I have been a teacher for the past 11 years. Currently, I teach middle/high school in a virtual setting. I am certified by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission to teach English, Middle Grades Language Arts and Social Science, History, Political Science, Elementary Education, Gifted, and Special Education, both general curriculum and adapted curriculum. I am a member of the Georgia Council for the Social Studies, Georgia Council of Teachers of English, National Association for Special Education Teachers, Association of American Educators, and Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education. At the high school level, I have taught college prep and on-level classes in a variety of subjects: World Literature, American Literature, Political Science, US History, Writing, Speech, and Drama. At the grades 4-8 level, I have taught English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Remedial Reading as well serving as a special education Science co-teacher. In all of my courses, I enjoy teaching my students strategies and systems for studying, planning, organizing, test-taking, and advocating for oneself. In my time with Varsity, I have tutored students from grade 2 to adult, and I have taught several classes including: Space Club, Special Education Reading Comprehension, and Cooking Healthy Snacks. My experience in writing and implementing IEPs and 504 plans for students with disabilities helps me guide learners of all abilities toward success. My love of museums, history and science centers, zoos, and aquariums inspires me to create unique cross-curricular learning opportunities for my students.
As both a student and an educator, I recognize that education is largely a collaborative and contextual exercise. We each bring with us our own strengths, challenges, hopes, and ambitions and it is important that we are open about these, so as to recognize how they might help and impede our learning! My experience in the contextual exercise of education is primarily in the high school setting, where I have taught history and literature. However, I have also worked with younger students and those with learning differences in a variety of different subjects. I am both a teacher and a continuing scholar. Thus, I recognize the need to apply some of my own pedagogical ideas to my ongoing studies! I am inspired by students that are able to discover something of themselves within the subjects they are working on.I hold an MTS degree from Villanova University, where I specialized in Christianity in late antiquity. I present on a variety of topics regarding history and Christianity in antiquity at conferences, and will begin doctoral work next year in Syriac studies. I look forward to learning alongside you!

I am an interdisciplinary educator with an Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a B.A. from Dartmouth College. My background is primarily in integrated arts learning and museum education and I specialize in visual arts, history and art history, and object-based learning. I am a recent graduate from a masters program in biostatistics at Columbia University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences, with a focus in neurobiology at Northwestern University. In August, I will be starting a doctoral program in biostatistics at NYU. I was a teaching assistant at Columbia University in my department and also have tutored graduate students and undergraduates privately as well. My primary areas of tutoring are math and statistics coursework in addition to math sections on standardized tests such as the GRE and GMAT. I am a graduate of Wesleyan University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with High Honors. With eight years of experience working in education, I've tutored students in math, science, history, and English, as well as helped students prepare for standardized tests. I've guided adults towards passing the US Citizenship Exam and taught English in India, where I lived for six months. I am a rising sophomore at Harvard College and am about to declare as a Mechanical Engineering concentrator, working towards a Bachelor of Science degree. I've always enjoyed sharing my knowledge with my peers and those around me and have done so in both formal and informal settings. I've been a tutor for both Math and Spanish programs in high school and enjoyed the strides I made with students. I am willing to tutor any subject I have a background in, but am strong in mathematics, the sciences, Spanish, history, writing, and ACT prep. I enjoy teaching mathematics most due to the joy I can see in children once they master a topic and can answer even pointed questions meant to stump them, and maybe even put their knowledge to real world use. As a tutor, I like to give a strong foundation to orient my student, and then gradually grant them more freedom and independence until they can feel themselves grasp the concept, pointing out pitfalls or common errors along the way; teachers who used these methods on me always left the most lasting impressions. I am a graduate of Washington University in St Louis, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in History with minors in Humanities and Anthropology. Since graduation, I have worked as a tutor, teacher, and director of tutors at a charter public middle school in Boston. I am a junior Mechanical Engineering major at Yale, and I hope to become a Naval Aviator after college. I am also a varsity sailor, and enjoy playing music with friends when I can get some free time. I have been tutoring my fellow students throughout my entire academic career, and I would best describe my tutoring style as one that adapts to each students' needs. For example, I have always tried to frame questions in a different way so that the student can better understand the question. Some students need visual representations of numbers and systems to understand them, and others benefit more by understanding the concepts behind each formula. I prefer to tutor in math and physics, and especially with real world application problems. I hope to help students improve their standardized test scores and their understanding of the math and sciences so that they can achieve their academic goals!
