I want students to enjoy the subject and learn that math exists everywhere. I also want students to know that math can be used every day. "Making Math as Easy as Pi"

My teaching style is based in building strong foundations in a subject and then allowing the student to develop the theory into application with their own intuition. I am a junior physics major at UMBC and focus on math, physics and chemistry tutoring. I have tutored college level math and physics for over two years, and am driven to give everyone a deeper understanding of science fundamentals!

I am a retired high school Math Teacher and Principal with over 35 years experience working with students. I hold a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics from the University of Mary Washington and a Masters of Science in Computer Science from Hood College. I also hold certifications for Math 8-12, Computer Science, and Secondary Administration I and II. I have been tutoring all manner of math, computer science, and test prep related courses online since 2015. For the past 4 years my focus has been almost exclusively on tutoring calculus (AP Calc AB, AP Calc BC , College Calc 1, College Calc 2). These are my favorite courses to tutor as I taught the AP program for nearly 20 years before becoming a high school administrator. My methodology is teaching students to think and to diagnose problems, thus helping them to develop strong habits of mind and self-confidence in problem solving. I ask as many, if not more, questions than I answer. I can quickly determine a student's weaknesses and prescribe a learning plan to address them. My goal is to make my presence redundant as the student builds a tool box of mathematical reasoning and processing skills that will allow them an increased sense of independence. Outside of teaching, my interests are centered on the Philadelphia sports teams (Fly Eagles Fly!!), Ford Mustangs and video games (Madden, Golf, third person adventures).
I hold a B.A. in English with a minor in Piano Performance from Hood College. I also hold a M.M. in Choral Conducting from Bard College. I have experience teaching piano students since 2003, and have taught in public and private schools in New York, Massachusetts, and Montana. I currently accompany choirs on the piano and teach music at a small rural school in Montana. I enjoy tailoring lessons to each student's interest and believe in training well-rounded musicians--musicians who are connected to both the eye and the ear. I am also competent at copyediting and giving suggestions for writing and grammar. I was a Writing Tutor at Hood College.
I am a graduate of Hood College, with a double major in Economics and Law & Society. I attended The American University Ph.D. Economics program. I completed all the Ph.D coursework and comprehensive exams, but not the dissertation. I have taught economics at the college level for over 15 years. I enjoy seeing students make connections between economics and other fields of study or their own personal interests. It is heartening to watch students utilize economic concepts to understand the world around us. While most people do not find economics super easy, I find that much of students' anxiety stems from using math, but believe that most economic principles or concepts can be understood using little math; and once a student has a strong foundation, being able to utilize and understand some math ends up being a great deal easier. I have taught introductory Micro and Macro courses, Intermediate Micro, Labor Economics, Money & Banking, and U.S. Economic History.
