I am very interested in environmental science and ecology. I want to share this passion with other students that are interested in these fields and others. I enjoy helping others learn to love learning! I graduated with a BA degree in Biology and Environmental Studies from Hendrix College and I am currently obtaining a PhD in Entomology from UGA. I enjoy asking questions when tutoring and finding the right resources to help different students understand any given subject.

I graduated from Hendrix College, a small liberal arts college in Arkansas, in 2013. I attained a degree in Environmental Biology with honors. I love all things biology, ecology, and botany. I love to see students learn about and become interested in the sciences. Therefore, I tutor in all levels of biology, ecology, environmental science, and ACT science prep. Writing is an integral part of science education and understanding, so I am also interested in helping students with their writing, both for science and non-science classes. Writing is a delicate process, but one that can be learned with the right help. It is my hope that I can encourage students to write creatively but with a strong grammatical and structural base. I tutor in English and college essay writing and will help with essay editing. My overall tutoring style is one that is fun but serious. While students learn in many different ways, I think being comfortable with their tutor or teacher is the most important aspect of learning. I want the student to feel free to ask as many questions as they need or want without feeling they are failing. Some topics take longer to master, and that is okay! Outside of tutoring, I enjoy hiking, playing disc golf, crafting, and playing some N64.
With a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of New Mexico and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Hendrix College, I bring over two years of teaching experience in subjects including Algebra, Calculus, Computer Programming, and Physics. My journey into education has been deeply fulfilling, particularly in small group and one-on-one settings, where I can tailor my approach to meet individual student needs. I believe in fostering a supportive learning environment that encourages curiosity and critical thinking, helping students to build confidence in their abilities. My passion for teaching extends beyond the classroom; as a certified scuba instructor, I've honed my skills in guiding learners through complex concepts, reinforcing my commitment to facilitating meaningful learning experiences.
My love of mathematics led me to pursue a career where I can utilize it every day. I believe that even if you don't directly apply math in your day to day life, studying math can give you valuable critical thinking skills that apply to all areas. I love helping others grow these skills and see why studying math can be fun and useful.
I am a have a Master's degree in Biology at Sam Houston State University. I have a strong background in STEM from my undergraduate studies in biochemistry and molecular biology. I have experience teaching several lab courses, and experience tutoring my younger brother through high school. I've been tutoring with Varsity for about 2 years.
During my time in graduate school, I taught university level general chemistry and analytical chemistry courses and laboratories and have helped hundreds of students understand and apply a wide range of concepts and tools to better understand both practical and theoretical problems in and outside of the laboratory. The key is to build off of what you know and work in steps to understand each problem and how to solve it. I think being able to relate a problem back to what you already know is the best way to understand difficult concepts or problems, and I will use that along with the knowledge and skills I've gained over the ten plus years I have been studying chemistry to help you in any way I can. In my free time I enjoy playing video games, board games, watching college football, NFL football, anime, manga, and sci fi.
I believe that fostering curiosity and a passion for knowledge is the most important job a teacher has. For out of this passion and drive, there is no limit to what one can seek to learn and understand. A recent arrival from London, England I am hoping to establish myself in New York. I am a hard-working, highly educated and determined young professional with a diverse skill set and range of experiences. No matter what I have been involved in be it my studies or my work, I have always harbored a deep love of learning. When I taught elementary school, or worked with my peers in the library writing center, it was this love of knowledge and curiosity that I wanted to pass on. This desire - coupled with my enthusiasm and attention to detail - is what drive me to be an effective tutor/teacher.
