Education has always been an important foundation upon which I build my goals and dreams. Without education, I would not be able to achieve my greatest ambition, to assist the youth to develop their fullest potential. Throughout my life, I have always been optimistic and dedicated to my studies. I've always maintained a B average. I knew I had to work hard so that I can be the change that my family wasn't, to receive a higher education. I was determined to attend college and receive scholarships, and that is what I did.As an undergraduate, I immersed myself in the resources at Claflin University especially in its Freshman College. As a result, I mentored and tutored freshmen students and became a visionary leader on campus. It was then that I knew my purpose was greater than being a Journalist. In undergrad, I have maintained an A average in my English courses and was recognized by several professors for my achievements.After graduating from undergrad and attending graduate school, my love and passion for helping the youth expanded, which led me to become a substitute teacher, in which I managed while being a full-time student. It wasn't until I became a Program Assistant for SCAD's summer program, that I realized that my hard work and dedication affected the youth in whom I've worked with. I've motivated, inspired and changed so many young people lives which exceeded my expectations.I have years of experience of learning and teaching, to be a better me, so that I can motivate and inspire the youth to be a better them. My discipline has allowed me to receive a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communication and a Master of Arts Degree in Film and Television Production. Education has always been a priority in my life and when an opportunity approaches me, I always do my best to provide the best learning experience.
It is my passion and pleasure to be able to serve as your tutor. I have taught elementary school, and tutored middle, high school and college students. My experience has taught me so much about connection with the youth all while inspiring me to continue to use my talents to elevate the next generation.

My name is Kim Legette and I was born and raised in South Carolina. I am a certified Masters Level Educator ( PreK-5th grade). Currently, I am working on my Educational Specialist in Elementary Education. I have always had an interest in educating children, which was the reason I was able to find my passion in teaching.Your child will be able to benefit from fun and engaging tutoring sessions with me. I will make sure to adapt to your child's learning styles and needs.
I have always enjoyed the interaction with and learning from the students. Every student has the potential for success and I find this potential to be exciting. Tutoring presents new challenges and new potential successes. I believe that I can bridge the learning gap through my effective communication skills, patience and passion for learning. And I believe these qualities make me a great tutor.I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Biotechnology from Claflin University and then went on to obtain my Master of Science degree in Microbiology at MIT. Both my undergraduate and graduate training has given me exceptional opportunities to strengthen my critical, analytic and problem-solving skills through a variety of courses from the quantitative and biological sciences discipline. I have applied those principles to independently developing and designing experiments to answer specific biological questions. Therefore as a tutor, I hope to cultivate in my students these same problem-solving and critical thinking skills.While at Claflin University, I conducted one-on-one sessions with undergraduate students focusing on Calculus I and Biology. Prior to my graduate studies at MIT, I traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina where I took part in an after school program focused on teaching pre-elementary and elementary kids Spanish and Math. Most recently, I tutored middle-school math to students at the Excel Academy Saturday program based in Chelsea, Massachusetts. In each instance I learned how to develop effective lesson plans and applied different teaching styles to cater to each student's needs.I believe that I can make a valuable contribution to Varsity tutors through my educational background, tutor experiences and my passion for learning.
