I graduated from the University of Cincinnati majoring in Physics, Astrophysics, and Mathematics. I am most passionate about physics, although mathematics is a close second. The beauty that unfolds in the equations is truly remarkable to me. I have been tutoring for over six years and have been a professional mathematician for four years. I also have experience working in experimental physics research. I find working with struggling students to be most rewarding, because I myself once felt completely incapable of learning math and physics. It was the patience and encouragement of my professors and classmates that made me into the confident scientist I am today. In my experience, understanding a student's unique perspective and preferences is the most effective way to guide them to form thorough understandings in their own way. My students and I often enjoy working through problems together step by step with ample room for questions, and they leave each session feeling encouraged in their capabilities. I understand what it is like to struggle to grasp concepts, and so I have endless patience for helping students through similar challenges. It is always worth the hard work when a student realizes--they could do it all along!

I am a graduate of McGill University (BA First Class Honors) and the University of Edinburgh (MSc First Class Honors with Distinction) with over eight years of tutoring experience. I am currently a curriculum developer for a company which creates relatable and culturally-literate courses for middle and high-schools, and am particularly adept at communicating and explaining concepts in a quirky, engaging, and intelligent manner. I was named Scotland International Young Thinker of the Year 2014 for exactly that sort of work. Much of my tutoring background is in test-prep and essay coaching, which I enjoy because it allows the tutor and student to think strategically together, and work as a team to achieve concrete results. I have worked with students ranging in age from 6-32, and believe that, in an educational context, a few jokes never hurt anybody. Rowlings, the writer of Harry Potter, is just as brilliant as Stephen Hawking, and in my free time, I manage my (terrible) fantasy baseball team, write songs for my comedy band, and crack jokes about terrible science-fiction movies with my friends.

I am a Yale grad, Johns Hopkins master's candidate, and certified early childhood educator. At Yale, I studied History and Child Development. I am currently a sophomore at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, majoring in Human Development with a minor in Education. I tutor a variety of subjects, I am the most passionate about English. I have previously tutored high school English, focusing on thesis development, grammatical skills, and creative writing. My experience creating weekly curriculums for students in preschool through 12th grade as an activity facilitator for Chautauqua Institution allowed me to refine many of my teaching skills. I was especially enthusiastic about my lessons on poetry and nature literature. Although my interest in teaching began in high school, my Education minor has given me more hands-on experience working with students. The minor has also introduced me to new teaching methods, as I have been able to dissect education theory and policy. In my free time, I read a lot of non-fiction, draw, and watch the West Wing.

I am currently a senior at Johns Hopkins studying Biomedical Engineering. I have a lot of experience tutoring in math, physics, chemistry, and thermodynamics. I have also proof-read essays for college applications and english classes as well. Outside of school I like to cook, play basketball, and listen to music.

I am excited to be tutoring. In my experience teaching, I have learned that empowerment in a subject is a combination of efficient guidance from me and a willingness to improve from my students. By signing up for tutoring, students are already taking the first step to mastering whatever areas in which they may be having difficulty. I won't do all the work for my students but I will never leave them to figure out everything by themselves, as that defeats the purpose of a tutor. I will constantly assess understanding during the learning process, thus gradually giving my students the confidence that they have moved into deeper understanding of material. With the right instruction, everyone is capable of overcoming those problem subjects, and I am happy to help along the way.

I am a recent graduate of Cornell University, where I received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Over the past several years, I have worked with students from diverse backgrounds and experiences tutoring thermodynamics (my personal favorite), chemistry, and math. I have also tutored in the past for ACT/SAT and other subjects such as history, but I am deeply passionate about science and engineering. I tend to push my students to understand conceptual topics, as opposed to rote or algorithmic learning. I am a Gates Cambridge Scholar and recently completed my MPhil in Development Studies at the University of Cambridge. This fall, I will begin my legal education at Yale Law School.
