After working in the accounting field, I went on to pursue a career in education. I graduated with a Master of Arts in Elementary Teacher Education and a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix, and a Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership from Western Governors University. Upon receiving my teaching credentials, I became an elementary teacher and literacy coach and then was promoted to become an elementary principal. I also obtained certification as a K-12 special education teacher and worked as a special education director and teacher.Throughout my career, I have tutored all subject areas in grades K-6 as well as reading, writing, and math in grades 7-8. As an avid reader and writer, I am most passionate about tutoring reading and writing. I love watching students grow as readers building a lifelong passion for reading, and the natural progression in their writing. I also enjoy teaching math and helping students build number sense and confidence in their mathematical abilities.As a passionate educator, I strive to share that passion for learning with students and fellow adult learners. I am a Project Consultant and a retired Sustainment Systems Engineer with both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degree in Operations Research-Statistics, a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics/Statistics and 20+ years of experience with General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin.I am a firm proponent of continuous education, believing it to be necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my colleagues. I volunteer extensively and have tutored adult students in both qualitative and quantitative fundraising techniques. I have and will continue to leverage my: (1) Consulting, Lean Six Sigma and Black Belt (Analytical Continuous Improvement) training and experience and (2) extensive project management experience designing, improving, and implementing integrated systems of people, materials, and equipment to help my students develop an appreciation for mathematics and its application in everyday life. I will use my well-developed analysis and skills performing data modeling, simulation, and analysis to teach and enhance my students' organization and critical thinking skills. I am passionate about education and working with kids! I have obtained my teaching degree from Northern Kentucky University and I am certified to teach PreK-5th grade. I have tutored and taught all subjects and I have used a variety of teaching strategies. I mostly enjoy teaching reading and writing. Reading is extremely powerful for a child and is so enjoyable! I am dedicated to making a positive difference in your child's academic career.Outside of teaching I enjoy playing tennis, reading, and playing with my puppy!I am currently working on getting enrolled to start my masters degree online in social work.

While at USC (University of Southern California) I tutored extensively. Helping younger students was a huge part of my personal growth, as a person and a professional. After receiving my BA in History with a focus on Modern American History, I entered the business world, yet still continued to tutor for about five years. Now that I have 10+ years of professional experience, I have been lucky to travel (both for work and leisure) to seventeen countries, and counting! I have experience tutoring a broad range of subjects, but I am most passionate about Math and History. I am diligent about organization, and feel it is the key to success (in academia and otherwise!) In my spare time, I love reading (mostly American literature and scifi: Kerouac, Hemingway, J.D. Salinger, Orwell, etc.), basketball, hiking, spending time with family, and traveling.

Before I began student teaching at P.S 149Q, I had doubts about teaching full-time. Not because I didn't like teaching, but because I doubted how effective I would be as an educator. Teachers' whom I've met throughout my journey had always described their jobs as a battlefield, and either ended their days' in victory or defeat. I've seen more defeated teachers than I want to admit, and could not help but feel insecure about my own abilities to make a difference. My mom said once that teaching was like performing surgery, explaining that I had the potential to shape a child's life. As I looked into my students' eyes during my first day of student teaching, I remembered her words of wisdom, and asked myself, "Can I do that?"I found the answer to that question midway through my student teaching. A student of mine was struggling immensely. My CT and I both knew he needed extensive one-on-one guidance; he seemed aware of that too. As I took him to the back of the room to help him with his math assignment, he had a dejected look on his face. I smiled at him and attempted to make him laugh, to no avail. His shame was like a leak, and it was bleeding from his body. Before I had a chance to say anything, he muttered, "I can't do this. I'm not learning." It wasn't said with heat, only miserable acceptance. I felt it then- a spark of defiance coursing through my body, and I knew that I couldn't let him continue believing that about himself. I turned his chair to face me, and I took his hands in mine. "Anthony," I said, "you have the ability to learn just like everyone else." He shook his head in disagreement. I nodded in return, smiling confidently. "Yes, you can," I continued, "your brain just learns differently from us." He looked at me then, and even though doubt still clouded his eyes, I also saw a glimmer of hope. "Common, lets work together to figure these questions out," I whispered enthusiastically.One period later, my desk indeed looked like a battlefield- manipulatives and eraser bits covered my entire desk; I was mentally exhausted. But the worksheet was complete, and Anthony was smiling a million dollar smile. "You did it, Anthony!" I said. He nodded and laughed giddily, clapping his hands. My heart burst with the joy and satisfaction of being able to restore Anthony's confidence, of giving him the hope to march onwards in his struggle to learn. That day I learned what teaching was all about- giving students the confidence that they can learn. Anthony didn't know this, but he also helped me realize that I wanted to continue doing that as an educator. While I finished student teaching and am still nervous, I am surer than ever that I picked the right career for myself. Anthony and I won that battle, and I anticipate many more victories to come.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and took 2 1/2 years of science based classes towards a Biology major initially having the goal of becoming a medical doctor. Growing up in Hawaii with parents from Europe and Asia, I've traveled extensively to visit family all around the globe. I worked as a Group Leader at the YMCA supervising a group of 90 kids (ages K-5) and also filled in for professors. My peers always joked that I was "teacher's pet." While I enjoy all things academic, I find learning languages and the culture behind them especially fascinating as they can provide a form of unity. I'm drawn to the ocean having lived in Hawaii, Southern California, and now Palm Beach County. In my free time I enjoy exploring the great outdoors and my guilty pleasure is watching random clips on Youtube while enjoying a good meal.
