Session Summaries by Summer Tutors

Summer Tutoring review by Courtney in Lindenhurst, IL
For this session, we mainly focused on the research paper for English and spelling for Spanish. The student's main issue in Spanish right now is the accent marks. She is losing points not because she doesn't know the terms or the structure, but because she is omitting the accent marks. To solve this issue, I have the student hand writing each term with an accent (including verb conjugations) three times each. With continued practice, this will no longer be an issue. For the research paper, we created the outline today. The student's topic has changed a bit, and we worked to refine the topic so we can build a thesis and main points.

Summer Tutoring review by Lindsey in Lindenhurst, IL
In this session, the student learned how to use a movie making program with her project and select components of a presentation that will make the most impact. She put together an amazing project and video. She learned very quickly how to use the software. Her attitude was positive and enthusiastic. I discovered recently that her project earned a 100% and was selected as a class exemplar.

Summer Tutoring review by Lindsy in Lindenhurst, IL
The student and I worked through her math review sheet. Her English and Math final are tomorrow. She has a plan for her oral presentation in English and has already had feedback. For tonight I asked her to re-do each math problem we completed together on a new sheet of paper. The goal is for her to do the problems w/o looking at the solution. She seemed more confident tonight, I believe she will carry this into her finals and perform her best.

In today's session, the student and I worked on World History. We completed the assigned worksheet, which covered a whole lot of ground on subjects learned throughout the term, in preparation for the upcoming final exam. He was once again very receptive to the tutoring.

Summer Tutoring review by Jeanna in Lindenhurst, IL
The student and I discussed her homework. We worked on her homework together and discussed what the mean, median, and mode of a data set mean. We also talked about how to convert hours into minutes. We then practiced her spelling, with a timed spelling bee. Finally, we reviewed her homework on the Aztecs.

Summer Tutoring review by Marijke in Lindenhurst, IL
The student and I discussed how he had done on the test we studied for together on Monday. He felt very confident about the social sciences test. The religious test is not until next Monday, so I quizzed him on some of the definitions he had to learn, and he was able to answer correctly. His math homework had been well received. As it turned out, the story for his Little Buddy is not due until next week, and all he had to do was present the story outline, which we had completed that Monday. He also did well on that. We worked together on his science homework and made sure he completed that. Then, we worked on the timeline he had to complete for social sciences for next week. I also talked with his dad about beginning Spanish lessons for him. We agreed to start Spanish lessons soon.
