The student and I began our session by discussing a specific plan to tackle the material we will need to cover for her final exam: covering 4-5 chapters of her physiology text per session, collaboratively creating our own questions for a self-made "practice" exam and making our way through the final study guide provided. Since the final study guide was not available to her at the time of our session, we went over and discussed questions she had missed on her midterm. The midterm covered topics in physiology ranging from neuronal processes, cell signaling, ventilation and cardiology. It became apparent that she does not struggle with any one area but rather with deciphering what information she is being asked to recall in order to answer the question at hand. With this in mind, we worked at comprehension of the material in addition to strategies for breaking down her professor's questions. Going forward, I am going to create a practice exam (not provided by the course) for her to complete before our next session, in addition to her focusing her study on active recall of the material (rather than simply rereading text). I have no specific concerns - we are just going to try and get through as much material as possible before her final exam on September 5th!
