Reading Tutoring review by Kaitlyn in Waltham, MA
We continued with sentence types, the student felt comfortable and we began comma rules and comma exercises. The student was also comfortable with these exercises, but asked for additional practice. We will continue comma exercises, and continue moving through basic punctuation mechanics next time.

Reading Tutoring review by Andrew in Waltham, MA
At today's session, the student and I looked at the short story his class is working on. We outlined the first half of the plot, defined difficult vocabulary, and discussed the difference between short stories and novels. We also explored the functionality of the learning application he is using to read the short story. He learned how to highlight text and create notes within the text. We added notes for difficult vocabulary, important plot points, and literary devices. For our next session, I've asked him to take digital notes on the remainder of the story.

The student and I reviewed Acts IV and V of Macbeth. His teacher provided him a focus for essay preparation: the theme of equivocation. We looked at each of the various prophecies in the play and how Macbeth's interpretation from them differ from their literal meaning. We also collected a series of quotes he could use for his upcoming essay.

Reading Tutoring review by Daisy in Waltham, MA
Today we continued working on letter and sound recognition. The student got the letters she struggles with right the first time today! We went through her weekly sight words that she gets from her teacher. We went through her sight words 4 times (practiced sounding out the difficult ones) and also practiced using them in sentences. I introduced the concept of sound blends today. We made a list of all the words that we could think and talked about how most of them rhyme. Next, I said a word and had her draw me the letter that word started with. Last, we read, and after the story I had her tell me all about each of the characters in the book and draw me a picture of them.

Reading Tutoring review by Stephanie in Waltham, MA
Both students began the session by reading a book they were assigned for homework. They did a very good job reading. They both worked on reading worksheets where they were asked to identify certain words and then make sentences out of them. They began to learn about adjectives as words that describe nouns. Student A used his Snoopy toy as a subject in his sentences to use to describe. Overall, they appeared to have the concept of adjectives. We will continue next week to learn about them.
