AP English Language and Composition Tutor • +13 Subjects
I am currently a student at Georgia State University; I will have my Bachelor's degree, with a major in English with a concentration in Literature, in May of 2014. In September 2014, I will begin my Masters of Arts in Teaching through the University of Southern California. I have had multiple experiences teaching at the informal level, and have most recently completed a Secondary Education internship. This internship allowed me to work with students in on-level Freshman English, and Senior AP Literature. I was also allowed to observe classes at the Sophomore and Junior levels. My favorite subject to teach is Writing. I have a passion for literature, and I greatly enjoy writing my analysis and conclusions down, manipulating the English language to reflect exactly what I mean.I believe in cognitive learning; that is, I believe students should always have the opportunity to voice what they have learned. That way, I can understand the way each student grasps concepts, and it allows me to see exactly where a student has trouble with a concept.Outside of academia, I work with an animal rescue and service dog training program. I take part in the rehabilitation process for dogs who need to learn how to live in a home, and I assist in training the service dogs. As the Director for Public Relations for the branch, I also oversee the public aspect of the organization.

I love helping people overcome the hurtles preventing them from being successful. Whether it's figuring out life, gaining a true helpful understanding of a subject, or just passing a written exam so they can get to the real life on the job training, I can help! I tutor all things Math (Aerospace Studies degree and a minor in Mathematics), insurance licensing exams (I've been an agent for 3 years writing personal, commercial, health and life policies), and CDL test prep (I've had a CDL for 5 years and have extensive knowledge in commercial driving and HD truck maintenance).

I am passionate about both learning and teaching. I believe in a positive, encouraging, and supportive teaching style. I have a Bachelors of Science, a Masters of Science in Computer Science, and am currently finishing my PhD. I've taught at the university level and worked as a professional trainer.Walt Disney once said, "Laughter is no enemy to learning" and I believe in that maxim. Learning should be fun and engaging, tied to real-world examples and explanations that not only illuminate the concept but also show the student why the information is important.I teach a variety of STEM topics, mostly focused around Computer Science, and I specifically focus on GRE preparation. There are a lot of tips and tricks you can use to maximize your score, as well as core concepts that can help you solve problems more easily. I have extensive experience with the GRE and with helping people get into grad school.

I've had experience tutoring at Kumon Learning Center where I had to engage and encourage multiple students - whose ages ranged from 3 to 15 - at a time. I spent two years tutoring SAT Verbal, Writing and Reading Comp strategies at Karen Dillard's College Prep. I also privately tutored my peers in Spanish while I was an undergraduate at the University of Dallas. One-on-one tutoring provides students with an opportunity to receive the extra instruction and attention that they don't always receive in a classroom setting. There is nothing more frustrating than struggling to understand new concepts and new materials that everyone in your class already understands. As a former Spanish major in a classroom full of native Spanish-speakers, I absolutely can relate to this feeling. As a tutor I make my sessions something the student looks forward to and doesn't dread. I am charismatic and approachable, and I make sure that the student feels comfortable asking questions or for further clarification, and that he or she feels comfortable making mistakes. I am an avid believer in positive reinforcement. Maintaining the student's attention and enthusiasm is a priority for making my tutoring sessions effective and fruitful.

Hello students! I enjoy school and attend Arizona State University where I am obtaining a bachelor's degree in nursing. I have a psychology and social work minor completed to accompany my degree, and enjoy healthcare and sciences very much. I have also completed several AP and collegiate level English courses and enjoy helping those around me. Anatomy and science courses are my favorite to tutor, as I use them every day and find them very interesting. I tutor various levels of math, English, writing, and science, and like to let students contribute insight on the areas they need help with, and I provide feedback and knowledge from there. I believe that this increases student confidence and ability be self-sufficient and successful with the student's education. In addition to academics, I enjoy hiking and spending time with my puppy. I also volunteer at the county animal shelter and work with hospice care providers for nursing and elderly people requiring extra assistance. I wish you luck in your educational goals and hope to be hearing from you soon!

I hope to be able to help students reach their full potential.I hold a Bachelors Degree in Molecular Genetics, with a minor in European History, from The Ohio State University, as well as a Masters Degree in Medical Physiology from Case Western Reserve University. This past year I was employed as a Teaching Assistant for a graduate-level Immunology class at CWRU and have also tutored inner-city grade school children in mathematics, reading, science, and social studies.I am qualified to tutor any K-8 subject, all levels of Biology (including AP and College), Immunology, History, and Public Speaking. Biology is the subject for which I am most passionate, as I find it challenging and have always excelled at it.My style of teaching is both hands on and visual. I like to draw and physically show concepts as much as possible. I also employ a reverse teaching style where I challenge the student to explain the subject matter to me in detail. This method has generally worked well as it clearly demonstrates to the students where they need the most assistance in any particular area.Personally, I am a huge sports fan, especially Ohio State Football. I love boating, ice skating, and spending time with my adorable year-old son, husband, and my dog.

Since graduation, I worked as a teaching assistant with Blue Engine, an education non-profit in New York City that accelerates student achievement by harnessing the power of team teaching. Next year I will be teaching 8th Grade Math and Geometry as a full time teacher in a public school while completing my Masters degree in Teaching through Relay Graduate School of Education.
