I am a retired teacher and have taught 2nd grade and 5th through 7th grades as a classroom teacher. I am currently a math and reading intervention tutor for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders - a highly rewarding way to spend my days! I earned my teaching degree from Wesern Governors University and hold a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies. I have a passion for teaching math. I have found that many students that "hate" math do not really hate it, rather they are not confident in their ability and struggle with it. I want to change their perception by helping to build foundational skills that enable the growth of confidence and ability. For almost three years in college I tutored hundreds of students in any subject that had anything to do with Mechanical Engineering. I have experience tutoring students with extremely different learning styles and I've learned to adapt to each in turn. I graduated in 2012 with a 4.0 in Mechanical Engineering from ASU and currently work full time, but I miss tutoring. So I'm back at it. My favorite subjects to tutor are Physics 1 & 2, Calc I, II , III, and Differential Equations.

I am attending the University of Arizona to obtain my Bachelors of Science degree(s).I have tutored as a volunteer during my Senior year of high school and currently tutor as a part-time job at the University of Arizona. I tutor in Math (up to Geometry) and general Chemistry. I enjoy tutoring in Math because there is only one answer (unless you are working with absolute values) and multiple ways to achieve that answer. So, if one method used to achieve the answer doesn't fit with your learning style there are other methods available.Usually when I tutor, I will ask questions in attempt to understand how much the student knows and where the "holes" in their learning are located. It's important to find these gaps because it enables me to understand what topics should be reviewed or emphasized. I also believe that asking questions encourages the student to think, which helps them make connections. The connections they make will help them in future situations because the students created these connections rather than merely being told information. I do not believe in simply giving out answers. I believe that memorizing answers do not help the student learn and that it actually hurts their learning. In math especially, the topics build on each other and so a strong foundation is necessary to be successful.Aside from tutor-y stuff: I enjoy learning (coding, guitar, random trivial facts, etc), watching tv shows (such as 2 broke girls, House, Rick and Morty, Pretty Little Liars, Stitchers, and Bob's Burgers just to name a few). I also enjoy drawing, painting, reading, sculpting, sleeping, eating and hanging out with friends.

I have a teaching license in elementary education and have obtained a Master's in Elementary Education at Arizona State University. I also obtained my B.A. from Michigan State University with a double major in Humanities-Pre-Law and Women's Studies.I have been tutoring children for five years. While attending Michigan State University, I tutored 5th graders at a inner city elementary school as well as a preschooler and kindergartener whom attended a Montessori school. While in Phoenix, during my first year of teaching I tutored a 1st grader as well as students of various grades K-8 at my school. While I am passionate about every subject I teach, I especially enjoy math, english language arts and history. I am a student at Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University. As of right now, I am a freshman working for a Biological Sciences degree. Previously, I went to BASIS Chandler, where I tutored students who needed help. I tutored Microeconomics, French, and Math (up to Calculus AB). My favorite subject to tutor is mathematics and Biology. Mathematics has a broad range of problems that are applicable in real life. Biology is a fascinating subject because it is the building blocks for life. Once you understand Biology, you will understand the way everything is connected in the world. My teaching style focuses on the student's weaknesses and overcoming those weakness to become strengths for the student. In my spare time, I dance to several types (Hip-Hop, Bollywood), sing, and cook. I like to cook something new everyday to bring some variety to food.
