Hello, my name is Vaibhav Sharma and I am a recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. I majored in neuroscience and chemistry and while I was in college I spent my time volunteering at local hospitals and researching novel neuroscience techniques. I will attend medical school at Geisinger Commonwealth Medical College this fall. Having taken all of the science classes since high school, I know how daunting and hard science material might seem but if taken at a very fundamental level, it is much more logical and simpler than how many high school teachers or college professors make it seem. Thats how I approach tutoring my clients. I try to use practical examples on how the science principles come into play in the real world.

I specialize in high-level GMAT diagnostic and execution coaching for stalled high-achievers. I don't just teach content; I identify the execution, timing, and decision-making patterns preventing score improvement and build customized strategies to break through plateaus under time pressure. After years of coaching GMAT students across a wide range of score levels, I've found that many advanced students underperform not because they lack ability, but because they approach questions inefficientlytreating each problem like a new puzzle instead of recognizing recurring execution patterns quickly and systematically. I earned my MBA from Georgetown University and worked as a former Sony engineer, bringing a data-driven and strategic mindset to every session. With 100+ five-star reviews, I've guided GMAT students to break barriersnot just raising scores, but shifting their confidence and thinking. As a result, many of my students have earned admission to elite MBA programs, including UCL

As a student of life, education, both formal and informal, energizes me. On the formal front, I have my AA in Psychology, my BA in Criminology, and my MS in E-Commerce, and I have an equally diverse post-studies career history. My love of education has taken me to Southern California where I fed my love of law and learned about film. Next, I visited rural Florida with a stint at a Community Theatre. I've even spent a fair amount of time in the Hospitality Industry in Las Vegas, which, unexpectedly, introduced me to the construction industry. Through all of this, I have been a professional tutor for profit and pro bono. I believe education should be available to everyone regardless of age, sex, or socio-economic status, and I utilize learning identification to impart wisdom in the most effective way possible for each student's needs. I love that magical moment when the student "gets it." With experience in a broad range of subjects, mathematics is the most enjoyable for me, as well as LSAT Logic Games I'm the weirdo doing LSAT games at the tea house. My spare time finds me in nature for hikes and trail runs, and I can regularly be found on an obstacle course (Spartan, Tough Mudder, SISU, etc.) or doing an extreme endurance events either racing or supporting friends. Life is to be learned and lived!

Growing up in a very test-driven academic environment in China, I was very passionate about studying and developing effective learning methods. As a result, I had always been one of the best students in my school, despite the fierce competition. Also, I gained a great sense of achievement by helping my classmates in different subjects, such as math, English or general studying guide. I gradually developed an interest in tutoring. In 2008, I was selected to be a translator serving Beijing Olympic Games. I had an honor to share Chinese language and culture to American colleagues from Aramark. One year later, I worked in an international hotel and met people from all over the world. I love working with people! I was offered a full-tuition scholarship in an MBA program in the U.S because of my outstanding GMAT score. I scored 720 out of 800 after one month self-study, without any sort of training. As you can see from my personal experience, I constantly raise my own bar and will be happy to help you do so! I believe learning is a lifetime ability and it will do wonders if you follow the right path. I look forward to working with you!

As an undergrad I dabbled in more majors than any advisor would recommend, but finally ended up focusing on art and ancient cultures. I have a Bachelor of Arts in art history and am a PhD candidate at Yale University, where I am completing an iconographic and photogrammetric survey of ancient Maya architecture on the Yucatan Peninsula. Along the way I have travelled in Africa and Latin America, lived in Mexico--where I studied as a Fulbright Scholar--and in Canada, where I taught at McGill University. I started teaching test-prep classes (GRE, LSAT, SAT, and GMAT) twenty years ago and have taught for several national companies. Teaching these classes has always been immensely gratifying due to the satisfaction of helping students prepare for and meet career goals. I particularly enjoy teaching the more complex subjects, such as the LSAT analytical reasoning and the GMAT quantitative comparison. I know how difficult some of this material can be because I have worked very hard to master it myself! Due to my time spent studying foreign languages (Spanish, three Mayan languages, Middle Egyptian) I am also very good with writing, rhetoric, grammar, and style. When not teaching or doing research I might be found curling, running, woodworking, taking photographs, cooking with my well seasoned wok, or visiting art galleries.

Emerson said that the secret of education is respecting the student. I have the greatest respect for that part of the human spirit that is curious and wants to learn. I find that if students feel they are listened to and heard, this allows them to feel encouraged. When they begin to understand that learning can be fun, the whole process becomes exciting and joyful. We are all curious and like to learn.

I am an adjunct instructor/professor of business, marketing, and management with 27 years of college and university teaching experience. Furthermore, I have taught in other countries such as Russia, and I go back and forth to France, which is my origin. Subsequently, I hold four Masters degrees which include an MBA in Management from Long Island University, Masters of Liberal Studies with a concentration in History and Political Science from StonyBrook University, an EdM in Education Administration from Columbia University, and an MLS in Library Science from St John's University. I completed my PhD in Management at Walden University. For the past 16 years, I have been a private tutor in the following subject areas; English, Writing, French, Basic Italian, History, Psychology, Social sciences, and Bible Studies. Furthermore, I am ESL certified from the Language School in Montpellier, France, where I obtained a certification in TOEFL and TOESL. I am experienced in APA format scholarly writing and can assist in all levels of written expression. It is difficult to say what my favorite subject is because I love tutoring and teaching them all, as I truly enjoy helping and mentoring students. If I had to say what my favorite subjects are, I would say the business area because of my teaching experience, the languages, and the writing areas. However, I truly enjoy all the subjects especially ethics and social sciences and hard sciences. Teaching and Tutoring Philosophy In my 27 years of teaching experience on the college and university level, and 10 years of tutoring experience, I have developed my own teaching and tutoring philosophy. From these experiences, I have learned that people have diverse learning styles. For example, some of my students are visual learners, and others are auditory learners as well as kinesthetic learners. Therefore, I have taken on a similar philosophy to Howard Gardner who believed there are many different kinds of intelligences and students have different ways they learn best. Hence, I employ many different learning modalities in my teaching including lecture, presentation, question and answer, group work, brainstorming, visual aids, and role-playing simulations. For tutoring, I use visual and auditory, based on the materials that the student provides. I try to use diverse learning methods that are tailored to each student. My philosophy is that all people can learn given the proper supports and tools. Learning curves vary in length but everyone can achieve and succeed with the proper supports. In addition, I believe that critical thinking and high order cognitive learning is crucial to success in higher education and careers. It is important for students to learn how to compare, contrast, apply, analyze, synthesize, evaluate, and implement. Critical thinking is excellent training in executive decision making and judgment which is crucial for students entering the work place or advancing their careers. I have a strong passion for teaching and it gives me great satisfaction when I see students grow in their knowledge and critical thinking as a result of what I can impart upon them. My interests outside academia include going out with friends, dancing, karaoke, general and space science, sports (hockey, American football, basketball, etc), technology, statistics, music, traveling, French culture, experiencing multicultural diversity, and classic cars. In closing, I think it is important for a tutor to be a knowledgeable teacher, a role model, a mentor, as well as patient and open-minded to all cultures and learning abilities, and styles. My goal is to fulfill that role which is who i admire li Manning who is my role model.

I have helped many students achieve excellent grades in math by focusing on what really matters: building confidence and a clear understanding of concepts. My teaching style is simple I make sure students fully understand the basics, then guide them step by step to solve problems on their own. I encourage lots of practice and always take time to clear doubts, so that no student feels left behind. Math doesn't have to be scary with the right approach, it becomes logical and even enjoyable! My aim is to make every student feel confident, independent, and capable of solving problems successfully.

I am a graduate of Grinnell College, a private liberal arts college located in Grinnell, Iowa. I have a Bachelor of the Arts in Computer Science from Grinnell's Department of Math and Computer Science. Since graduation I have tutored students of a wide variety of ages and background in a number of subjects. I have tutored middle school students in the Chicago area in Math and science and high school students in advanced Math, chemistry, writing, and helped them prepare for standardized tests for college admittance. I have also tutored adults preparing for academic proficiency tests for their jobs and with GRE prep for those interested in going to graduate school. Additionally I have taught English grammar, reading, and conversational skills to ESL students in Chicago, Ecuador, and Colombia. While I tutor a number of subjects, I particularly enjoy helping students with standardized test strategy and following their scores as they increase towards their goal. When I tutor, I aim to lead students to an answer by example so that they can see the reasoning involved themselves, rather than me just telling them the answer. The more the students can come to their own solutions, the more memorable the lessons will be. In my spare time I enjoy reading, playing skill games like scrabble, bridge, and poker, and outdoor activities like biking, camping, and canoeing when the weather is nice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pacing is one of the most common challenges GMAT test-takers face, especially on the Quantitative and Verbal sections where you have roughly 1.5-2 minutes per question. Tutors can help you develop section-specific timing strategies, such as identifying which question types to tackle first, recognizing when to guess strategically rather than spending 3+ minutes on a single problem, and using practice tests to calibrate your pace. The key is practicing with realistic timing constraints repeatedly so that time management becomes automatic on test day.

The Quantitative section challenges many test-takers because it requires both content knowledge (algebra, geometry, word problems) and strategic problem-solving under pressure. The Reading Comprehension portion of the Verbal section is also difficult because it demands active reading and the ability to distinguish between what the passage explicitly states versus what can be inferred. Data Insights (formerly Integrated Reasoning) trips up students who aren't comfortable switching between different data formats quickly. A tutor can diagnose which specific areas—whether it's algebra fundamentals, reading strategy, or data interpretation—are holding you back and create a targeted plan.

The GMAT uses adaptive testing, meaning the difficulty of questions adjusts based on your performance, which can feel disorienting if you're used to traditional tests. You'll encounter unique question types like Data Sufficiency (where you evaluate whether given information is enough to answer a question, rather than solving it outright) and Multi-Source Reasoning (where you navigate tabs of information). These formats reward strategic thinking and test-taking skills as much as content knowledge. Tutors can teach you how to decode these formats, avoid common traps, and develop a systematic approach to each question type.

Score improvement depends on your starting point and study commitment. Students starting in the 400-500 range often see 80-150 point improvements with focused tutoring and consistent practice, while those already scoring 650+ may gain 30-80 points as the test becomes harder to improve at higher levels. Most students benefit from 8-12 weeks of tutoring combined with independent practice, including multiple full-length practice tests. Your tutor will help you set realistic goals based on your target school's average scores and identify which sections offer the most point-gain potential for your skill set.

Practice tests are essential—they're the only way to experience the adaptive testing format, build stamina for the 3.5-hour exam, and get an accurate score estimate. You should take full-length, timed practice tests under realistic conditions (no interruptions, same time of day as your test date if possible) roughly every 1-2 weeks once you've built foundational knowledge. The real value comes from reviewing your practice tests: analyzing which question types you missed, understanding why you made errors (careless mistake vs. knowledge gap vs. timing pressure), and adjusting your strategy accordingly. Tutors help you extract maximum learning from each practice test rather than just taking them passively.

GMAT Reading Comprehension passages are dense and often written in formal, academic language about unfamiliar topics (science, history, business). The test rewards active reading—annotating the main idea, author's tone, and logical structure—rather than trying to remember every detail. Many students struggle because they read too slowly (trying to understand everything) or too quickly (missing nuance). Tutors teach strategic reading techniques like identifying the passage's argument in the first minute, then using that roadmap to answer questions efficiently. They also help you recognize common wrong answer traps, like choices that are true but don't answer the specific question asked.

Test anxiety on the GMAT often stems from feeling unprepared for the adaptive format or from past standardized test experiences. Building confidence requires two things: actual skill development (so you know you can handle the questions) and mental strategies for test day. Tutors help with the first part by ensuring you've mastered content and practiced extensively under timed conditions. For the second part, they can teach you how to manage the psychological pressure—techniques like taking a deep breath when you hit a hard question, remembering that everyone gets questions wrong on the GMAT, and having a plan for when to guess and move on. Mock tests in a tutoring session also simulate test conditions and reduce the fear of the unknown.

Beyond content expertise in math, grammar, and reading, a strong GMAT tutor understands the test's unique architecture—the adaptive algorithm, the specific reasoning required for Data Sufficiency, and how to teach strategic thinking rather than just formulas. They should be able to diagnose whether your errors are due to misunderstanding concepts, misreading questions, or poor time management, then address the root cause. Great GMAT tutors also stay current with test changes (the GMAT introduced Data Insights in 2024), teach you how to learn from mistakes, and help you build the mental resilience needed for a challenging, multi-hour exam. They balance pushing you to improve with helping you stay confident and motivated throughout your prep.
