As an aspiring teacher, when my students graduate from high school, I hope that they will not remember their tests or homework assignments. However, I hope that they will remember that I loved and cared for them, that I always believed in them and that I instilled in them the desire to never give up. I hope I have taught them to embrace their abilities, and dreams and to pursue their goals. I not only wish that for my future students, but also for those that I tutor. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Scranton with a degree in Early Childhood Education. My name is Kenya McKinney, I have been teaching for 9 years, I have a Bachelors of Science in Secondary Math Education from Oral Roberts University. I love math, puzzles, cooking and movies. Math hasn't always come easy to me, but I have learned to push through it and think about it in different ways to help me understand it, and I hope I can do the same for you.

I have a Bachelor's of Science degree as well as a Master's of Science degree in Applied Physiology. My educational experiences included numerous classes in biology, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, and general sciences. While I was working towards my degrees I had a Teaching Assistantship, which meant I taught lab sessions and tutored my peers who needed extra help. I currently educate and mentor women with autoimmune diseases on how to reverse their autoimmune symptoms using various lifestyle shifts and discovering the root cause of their autoimmunity. I love helping people learn the information they need to know to better themselves, whether it's to improve their health, do well on an exam, or to simply improve their knowledge in the sciences.

I believe in the power of education and curiosity! I am a biologist who has taught in public high schools for the past 8 years. I love working with students to discover new things about this amazing planet! I have taught everything from cell biology to astronomy, including botany, developmental biology, ecology and apiology, the study of bees. There is nothing too small or too big to investigate! I bring genuine passion, enthusiasm and curiosity to each lesson.

I believe in a flexible methodology. I believe not everyone learns in the same fashion or at the same rate. This does not mean a student is more or less intelligent than the next or the teacher is always right. There are fundamental methods and approaches that a student must learn when obtaining an education.The difference between a good teacher and a great one is adapting those methods and approaches to each individual. This cannot always be done in a classroom setting, and that is why we have tutors. I may not be the right tutor for everyone, but I'll do my best with everyone and hopefully change a few lives. In the end, this is not just about teaching them a specific subject, it's helping them evolve how they think in order to allow them to attack any subject now and in the future by teaching them how to break things down and approach it in an effective way.

Serving as a classroom teacher for twenty-five years, along with my time as a learner, have proved to be one of the greatest opportunities that I have gained from.As a "learner," I was impacted by great teachers. My family included four generations of educators. Two from those generations were my father and grandmother. Both helped me develop a "joy for learning," while they displayed a "joy for teaching." Though I struggled academically in the early grades, they modeled a 'desire to try," which resulted in the "momentum" that helped me intentionally reach learning goals.My mother and grandmother, who were not teachers, fostered my character learning experience. Though my grandmother did not attend school past the third grade, she helped me make the wise decision to follow directions. Mother taught me how trusting relationships within the family and community were vital in learning to live and relate "outside the classroom."I value the learner experience, yet the time came when I accepted the role as a "classroom teacher." Administrators, educators and parents helped me become aware of great teaching principles, which Ilearned to apply. Those acquired skills helped me enhance the academic and character opportunities for each student. In 1998, I was chosen "Teacher of the Year," by my colleagues.The most significant goal I reached as a teacher, is that which I saw in teachers before me- the reward of seeing a child attempt, practice and achieve a desired goal. "Successful learning" is thesuccess of teaching.

I am a third year student at the University of Vermont, but I studied aerospace engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute for a year and a half where I developed a strong understanding of math and science. I am passionate about tutoring students because I know how difficult it can be to learn complex subjects in math and science and I believe that I can help struggling students.

I am an adaptive mathematically inclined information sponge. I am able to help breakdown complex concepts and tie them to more easily digestible ideas. Reading the material and conceptually understanding is just the first step in being able to apply theory. I have found that there is no good substitute to working through problems and to learn by doing them. Even if you don't get the correct answer the first time, reworking them will deepen that groove of understanding. Then each time the topic comes up a more intuitive understanding can be obtained.In my time away from books I enjoy staying physically active, from boxing classes to weight lifting. It helps to relive stress and clear the mind to take on life's difficult problems with boldness.

I am a 4th year medical student currently and am looking to spend my free time tutoring students in a variety of subject areas, notably USMLE Step 1 and 2 CK.I graduated in May of 2020 from the University of Maryland, College Park. I obtained a Bachelors of Science in Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics with a minor in Human Development. I have tutored extensively, starting in high school with AP Biology, Human Anatomy and Physiology and SAT E/M Biology while also editing essays and helping students gain a better grasp of syntax/grammar for their writing. While in college, I tutored students of all levels in cell biology and genetics in particular, and continued editing papers and essays for students. I am an avid learner and hope to share my knowledge and skills with students who are eager to learn! In my spare time I enjoy singing and playing the ukulele, playing tennis and staying up-to-date on new and exciting cell biology research.
