I started my career attending a military high school in Nigeria where I learned basic discipline such as being timely, planning my schedule, and leadership skills. I then proceeded to a 6th form school where I obtained an Advanced Level Certificate in chemistry, mathematics, and physics from the Cambridge university examination board in Nigeria. After my 6th form education, I moved to New York and started college at BMCC. I spent about three semesters at BMCC then I transferred to City College where I intend to obtain a bachelors degree in bio-medical engineering. My future aspiration after my BSC is to go to graduate school for my masters and PHD at Princeton University. I also intend to join the United States Army where I plan to practice my bio-medical profession by helping the disabled veterans. I took particular interest in math back in Nigeria where I tutored students preparing them for their GED exam. I also volunteered with New York Cares (NYC), and I tutored in projects like computer training for adult and math games for middle and junior school students. Volunteering at NYC helped improve my teaching skills and expose me to knowing how and why students are scared of math. My approach to tutoring has basically been student dependent where I work at the student's pace and ensure accurate learning in my teaching sessions. Also I make math feel like its alive by using life examples and approach. I love playing soccer and watching movies at my free time.

I began tutoring ESL at a summer camp with international students. I taught group ESL lessons, with a wide range of abilities, for kids aged 5 - 14. Engaging the campers in games, both outdoor and indoor, as well as projects and inter-active assignments was key for keeping tutoring sessions fun while also developing language skills. I have also tutored individuals in French and English, primarily aiding them after school with homework help, but also teaching new and more challenging concepts to keep them ahead of their class. As someone who was tutored in math all throughout high school, I can really relate to both sides of the tutoring process! I am a very patient and dedicated individual and I am committed to understanding your child's needs.

I am a recent graduate of Northwestern University, where I received my BA in Philosophy and Political Science. As a former editor-in-chief of a high school newspaper and a peer writing coach, I enjoy tutoring in reading and English; however my passions truly lie in the realm of civics and government (ask me about my current position working in a governor's office!). I love talking through big ideas and unique perspectives. I am a word nerd who loves reading and is driven by the chance to learn new things!

Learning is a crazy thing. Sometimes it clicks, and oftentimes it doesn't. Sometimes you're pumped about fractions and oftentimes you're yelling at Shakespeare. I graduated from Yale with a degree in American Studies, and took all sorts of fun and arguably bizarre classes from building medical devices for babies, to learning Zulu, and analyzing German fairytales. And believe me, oftentimes things just don't make sense to me. But I've found that having someone (i.e. a tutor) around can help with finding alternative ways of approaching a problem/reading a sentence.I currently write music for movies and TV shows, so if you've had enough of polynomial banter, I am always happy to talk about music, composing, Seinfeld, and ice cream.

I have been teaching since grade school, when my sister and I always got to be the teachers whenever we played school because WE had the nun costumes. (Thanks, Mom!) As a high school sophomore, I was asked to teach the freshman German class because I had learned so much of the language on my own, with the help of an older sister who was studying it in college. (Thanks, Sis!) As a graduate student, my advisor asked me to teach a year-long course in electronic music, a subject that at the time I didnt know well at all. (Thanks, Dr. Stokes!) Thats when I really learned how to learn and how to teach - fast. Since then, I have taught a variety of subjects to everyone from preschoolers to adult learners - and Im still going to school myself. My background in the arts enables me to take novel approaches to asking questions, while my background in health care gives me a strong appreciation for arriving at evidence-based answers. That combination of discipline and creativity is something that I try to pass along to all of my students. If that appeals to you, I would love to work with you!

Conversational Spanish Tutor • +10 Subjects
I am a graduate of the University of Connecticut where I received my Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Spanish and Judaic Studies along with a minor in Middle Eastern Studies. I am now in the process of applying to grad school where I hope to pursue my MS in Spanish-English Translation. I am a lover of the humanities, from languages and history to theology and literature. That being said, I am most passionate about tutoring Spanish. Having studied the language since I was a child, I then decided to make it my main academic focus in college where I studied not only Spanish language and grammar but also Spanish and Latin American history, civilization, and culture. I have also studied Hebrew both in pursuit of my degree in Judaic Studies and informally for religious purposes. As someone who has acquired all of his language ability from learning in a classroom setting, I understand the most common challenges that students tend to face. I am very patient and professional in my teaching manner having needed tutoring myself while growing up. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, writing, drawing, board games, cards, and enjoying the great outdoors.

Hi, I'm Alex. I graduated last year from the University of Chicago with a degree in Economics (Honors) and Arabic. This year, I am a research assistant at UChicago while I apply to PhD. programs in Economics.I'm passionate about teaching Math and Economics and looking forward to working with you!Last summer, I taught microeconomics, macroeconomics, data science, and calculus as part of the 8-week UChicago Pathways in Economics program for High School students. This was such a great experience for me to work not just in front of the classroom but also one-on-one with students gaining experience in helping students get passed those sticking points that can be so frustrating. It was so exciting to watch as they began to master the material over the course of the summer and I was honored that many of my students asked me to write them letters of recommendation for their college applications. On a personal note, I love cooking, travel, learning languages, and hanging out with friends. Oh and I'm a total podcast nerd. I listen to podcasts pretty much every day and even make some in my free time when I get a chance. My favorite podcast is probably This American Life but I also love many others including All Songs Considered, Reply All, Criminal, and the Heart.
