Florida EOC Assessment Tutoring FAQ
If you are a high school student in the state of Florida, you will need to face a battery of end-of-course (EOC) assessments to demonstrate that you have learned and can apply the knowledge you have gained throughout high school before you are eligible for a diploma. Facing such a critically important exam for a single course could cause apprehension enough, but Florida students face five such exams in Algebra I, Geometry, Biology I, US History, and Civics. Due to the huge sway these exams hold over whether you graduate with a diploma or merely a certificate of completion, it is crucial to approach each exam with confidence in your skills and knowledge. If you're unsure of your ability to perform at the level that will be required of you when taking one or more of these assessments, Florida EOC assessment tutoring might be just the thing to help you excel.
Varsity Tutors can help you connect with Florida EOC assessment tutoring through their matching services. With the educational directors at your side, you create a full student profile that allows potential tutors to view your needs, learning style, schedule, timetable, concerns, and more. These are used alongside ongoing tutoring sessions to create an individualized preparation plan that focuses on addressing your weaknesses and making sure you are prepared.
Tutors tailor your tutoring experience to your specific needs, thus providing you with efficient and effective instruction. Your instructor will design a customized set of lesson plans based on your particular strengths, weaknesses, and concerns. This individualized approach is particularly efficient when helping you prepare for your EOC assessments. This is because no matter which particular topics and exams you need to focus on, your tutor can analyze your current abilities and help you use your limited study time wisely.
Beyond helping you master the content most likely to appear on each exam, your tutor can equip you with test-taking strategies that can make a huge difference on test day. Additionally, all tutoring is one-on-one, so you can benefit from having the full attention of an experienced tutor throughout each of your Florida EOC assessment tutoring sessions. You can have questions answered on the spot, receive detailed feedback on your work, and discuss any specific difficulties you encountered during an exercise while they're fresh in your mind. In addition, you can work through the material at the pace that allows you to best learn it, without having to worry about keeping up with or slowing down to the pace of the rest of a class. Your tutor can make use of a variety of different teaching strategies, so if a concept doesn't make sense the first time he or she explains it, you can approach it from different angles until it meshes with your learning style.
Your personal tutor can work with your busy schedule to help you prioritize your tutoring sessions. You can request to meet up in person at your home, a local coffee shop, a college campus, or anywhere else that would be convenient for you. In addition, you can choose to have face-to-face online tutoring sessions utilizing the Varsity Tutors live learning platform. You can meet up in the morning, afternoon, or evening. Your instructor is happy to make things more convenient to make sure that you are able to attend your tutoring sessions.
Don't put your graduation at risk due to not having reviewed properly for these important examinations, especially when personalized assistance is so readily available. We finished the math section and moved to science. The key to science is counterintuitive; you go right to the questions and don't attempt to read the description of the experiment or the data charts until the question directs you there. There are only 5-6 questions for each of 7 passages and you're given far more information than you will need, so you let the questions guide you. The student isn't hugely fond of this approach but he's trying it. Most of the questions are data interpretation, prediction, identifying patterns, etc. He understands the gist of what he needs to be doing; he just needs more practice. Some individual practice time is going to be critical for him.
Today we went over a math test together that I had previously assigned. The student scored a 24 on her own, but there is still room to improve. We then went over two science passages. I assigned the student two English sections so she learns how to pace herself better.
The student and I finished going over the math section we had started during our last session. She missed a few questions, but some were among the more challenging problems and others she misread. We then reviewed the triangle congruence theorems packet I had given her last week and went over her June ACT. With English, she answered most of the questions she had missed correctly, even identifying the errors she had made while taking the exam. Math and science also went smoothly. The student has improved a great deal over the past few months and at this point, it really will just come down to practicing consistently and making sure she is focused and reading both the questions and answer choices carefully.
We finished up the remaining hours that the student has on his account with a full focus on timing and completing sessions within the time constraints. I prepped him for exactly how to take the upcoming test and gave him various "day of" tips and timing suggestions. The student has been a wonderful student, and I expect him to do very well on his test.
The student has shown much improvement in his ability to write cohesive essays and we are constantly striving to improve even further. This includes exploring how to write in a more conservative style, integrating new vocabulary, and overall writing speed.
Today, the student and I mixed it up by spending most of our time on math. We worked through both multiple choice and grid-in problems together, and I showed him a few variations on some of the problems that he might expect to see. We also went through a few reading problems and a passage.
