Two days ago the student and I reviewed the immune system (to prepare for her test on Tuesday) then we looked over some of her history work. She didn't struggle with much. Her attitude was positive. We color coded and made comparison charts as study guides. I left her with a list of things from which she could choose to study for her test.

Today, we read a story about the different theories as to why worms move during the rain and discussed questions over the story. We then looked at the end of the Revolutionary War and the important battles that happened. The student had no homework because it was a field and track day at school. For extra work, I asked the student to watch a Liberty Kids episode about what happened after the war ended. I will also be sending some work to begin looking at the material for sixth grade.

We discussed the vocabulary that I sent him in a PowerPoint after our last session. We reviewed multiple choice questions on Feudal Europe, Feudal Japan, the Mongol Empire, and the European Renaissance. I especially emphasized vocabulary and wrote many terms on the whiteboard.

Mom and I discussed her goals for our summer session: to help the student retain what he has read and to be able to take his own notes. I wanted him to give me an idea of what his interests are: Mom says one of his problems is that his interests are very narrow. I will be sending him a url for a Barnes and Noble page so we can start reading Ender's Game. I figure it will be a good way to teach reading strategies and draw on his interest in Science.

The student and I reviewed for his social studies test by going through his notes and reviewing the chapters in his textbook that will be on the test (WWII, Cold War, and 1950's US Culture). I quizzed him with the questions and key people/ terms in each chapter review.
