I am an undergraduate at Rice University, and my favorite subjects to tutor are math and science. I also enjoy doing test prep, and my experience comes from helping fellow students in high school. One of the most important aspects of tutoring is fitting the teaching style to each student. One method that works great for one student may not work well for another. Tutoring is all about coming up with different ways for my students to understand the material. If my student is not interested in the subject we are learning, I will try to find a way to tie in their interests and passions into the subject to better engage them. I want to be there for my students, not only as a tutor, but also as a friend. In addition to my interests in math and science (and learning in general), I enjoy swimming, biking, reading, and cooking. Here in the Houston area, I've worked with Testmasters, C2 Education and Test Geek. I implement the Socratic Method into my teaching style: I ask plenty of questions that force students to deeply understand the material and to explain how they know why their answer is correct or not. I also believe it is my duty to equip students with tools to become better learners themselves which entails welcoming unique and creative approaches to solving problems, encouraging students to connect the relationships between different topics and subjects, and recommending using external sources and materials to learn and supplement understanding.
