I am currently in my 10th year of teaching for the New York City Department of Education, and have taught English to a broad range of students across various grades and academic settings (general, self-contained, Collaborative Team Teaching, and Resource Room). I am taking some time off to work, but I plan to return to school in the next few years to obtain a graduate degree in Clinical Psychology. While in college, I volunteered with the West Philadelphia Tutoring Project, an organization that brings Penn students into Philly's inner city to tutor low-income middle school students. I found the experience deeply rewarding and my time with WPTP nurtured an interest in working with children professionally. I tutor a wide variety of subjects including English, writing, history, SAT Reading/Writing, French and more! My favorite subject to teach is history. The subject is often viewed by students as boring and unnecessary (along the lines of, "why should I learn something that happened already?"); in my view, history is alive and full of useful lessons that can be applied at the personal, national and societal levels, and I enjoy teaching this point of view to students, helping them to see history as a living, deeply relevant subject matter.

I am very good at determining a student's individual needs and molding sessions based on a students strengths and needs. I am a certified special educator. I have multiple years of classroom teaching experience, primarily grades K-5. I am comfortable tutoring multiple subjects and grade levels including elementary school, middle school, college essays, english, special education, and gifted students. I have experience creating and implementing lessons based on a learners individual learning styles (visual, auditory, or hands on).

I am starting graduate school in September of 2024 (PhD in clinical psychology at UMass Boston). Throughout high school, I tutored all subjects at a nearby elementary school. I also tutored another high school student in Spanish, at the request of my Spanish teacher. Before college, I took a gap year to pursue music. During the gap year, I tutored a neighborhood seventh-grade girl in math and writing. Over the years, I have come to better understand how much I enjoy providing one-on-one support to children. I have been particularly successful in helping children who easily get frustrated and lose patience. As a recent student, I would be very excited to help others feel confident in their schoolwork. I understand the stress and frustration that can come with academics, and I would love to help students turn those feelings into pride, confidence, and enjoyment of learning. Beyond these classes, I also had a healthy, eclectic interest in a wide range of subject areas including Multivariable Calculus, Physics, and Film.
