Hello! My name is Kyler and I am currently a Senior at Indiana University studying Japanese Language and History as well as Political Science. As I am very passionate about these fields, I also really want to help others learning about these subjects in any way I can. I plan on becoming a teacher someday and I hope that through Varsity Tutors I can help students gain greater understanding and interests in these subjects among others. I am incredibly patient and will do whatever I can to assist students in comprehending material as I know how hard it can be sometimes, especially with things that do not particularly interest some people. Currently I assist students at IU through the Japanese conversation table, where students come to practice speaking.

Hello! My name is Alex, and I am a 3rd year student attending the University of British Columbia majoring in Statistics and Computer Science. I am looking to tutor students in the subjects of Mathematics, Programming, and Statistics. I believe that the process of learning is delicate. From introducing concepts in a basic framework to ease initial struggle, to pushing my students to complete challenging problems to solidify understand, I believe each step in the process is essential, but should be adjusted to each student. At the end of it all, I feel there is nothing more rewarding than seeing my students solve problems involving concepts that they once had never known.I have a few years of tutoring experience in high school, where I voluntarily provided math and science homework help for kids at the Greater Lawrence Technical School. I also worked as a tutor at the Russian School of Mathematics for a year. My experiences in these positions, and working as a kids ski instructor for a winter, provide me with a solid foundation not only as a teacher, but as a mentor and caretaker for children. I am patient, sympathetic, but, if required, I can also be demanding. I would love the opportunity to teach your child :).

I am a top graduate of Rutgers University and hold a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Although I am a practicing clinician, I also love to teach and tutor. I have had several years of teaching experience, including a variety of teaching experiences throughout my undergraduate and my doctorate program. While teaching, I incorporate real world examples to help the student understand the application of the learning material to the real world environment. I also tailor each student's tutoring session to meet the individual needs of that student, and am able to assess the learning process and progress of each student. Aside from physical therapy and education, I also hold a strong interest in world travel, photography, and animal welfare. I look forward to meeting and working with you to meet your educational goals.

My passion lies in socioemotional learning and mindfulness in everyday life. I am a graduate of New Mexico State University, with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. My studies there included extensive physics and computer science coursework as well. While in college, I tutored many fellow students, which is how I got my start with tutoring. Since then I have tutored all ages of students, both in-person and online, in many math, science, and computer coding subjects. My tutoring style is interactive. For any student whom I teach, the goal is always that the student is able to work the problems and explain the steps. As professors of mine said when I was in school, "Math is not a spectator sport", and "You can't do physics without a calculator in your hand". When I teach, the student does as much of the work as he or she can; if stuck on something I will provide hints as needed, and I will only take over and complete a problem as a last resort. My personal learning style emphasizes understanding over repetition, although I am very aware that this is not true for everyone - many students require substantial repetition in order to gain confidence and mastery. Most of my spare time recently has been directed towards the development of a mathematically-oriented computer game, which I hope to publish within a year or two. In addition to game development, I also enjoy hiking, biking, camping, and playing chess.

Reading and writing have interested me for as long as I can remember. My parents took us to the library every week to find new books and for story hour. I began writing my own creative fiction stories in 6th grade. My love of discussing and writing about literature and other reading made majoring in English Education a perfect fit. At Bowling Green State University, I gained experience with academic essays by tutoring students through the Writing Center. I worked primarily with first-year students on argumentative essays, but sometimes had the opportunity to work with graduate students on research papers and with English as a Second Language students needing help applying grammar rules.Since 2009, I've been teaching middle and high school Language Arts courses ranging from 6th grade reading through Senior Composition. I help my students to recognize the strengths they already have and use those strengths to improve other areas.I am working toward a Master's Degree in English with a concentration in Rhetoric and Composition at Northern Kentucky University. This will position me to teach first-year composition courses at community and 2-year colleges. It has also provided me with more strategies for teaching writing.

My tutoring and teaching experience includes being a bootcamp Python and SQL instructor, teaching and tutoring a GMAT prep class, and tutoring math and computer programming in college. When I'm learning something for the first time, I try to break up what I don't know into approachable chunks. Then I work my way through each smaller block with a combination of reading, practice and reflection about how the chunk I'm working on fits into the bigger picture.
