As I am very passionate about these fields, I also really want to help others learning about these subjects in any way I can. I am looking to tutor students in the subjects of Mathematics, Programming, and Statistics. I believe that the process of learning is delicate. From introducing concepts in a basic framework to ease initial struggle, to pushing my students to complete challenging problems to solidify understand, I believe each step in the process is essential, but should be adjusted to each student. At the end of it all, I feel there is nothing more rewarding than seeing my students solve problems involving concepts that they once had never known.I have a few years of tutoring experience in high school, where I voluntarily provided math and science homework help for kids at the Greater Lawrence Technical School. I also worked as a tutor at the Russian School of Mathematics for a year. My experiences in these positions, and working as a kids ski instructor for a winter, provide me with a solid foundation not only as a teacher, but as a mentor and caretaker for children. With a dedication to service and drive to combat education inequality, I moved to New York City for a 2 year commitment with Teach For America, to teach Kindergarten in Brooklyn. During this time, I experienced the gaps in our education system and led my classroom with love in a high paced, emotionally demanding work environment. For my own mental health as an educator, I became a 250 hr Registered Yoga Teacher and have loved practicing and building a community with CorePower Yoga. My passion lies in socioemotional learning and mindfulness in everyday life. I graduated in June 2020 from Relay Graduate School of Education with a Masters of Arts in Teaching General and Special Education, grades 1-6. Currently I am a graduate student at Teachers College, Columbia University for mental health counseling. Reading and writing have interested me for as long as I can remember. My parents took us to the library every week to find new books and for story hour. I began writing my own creative fiction stories in 6th grade.My love of discussing and writing about literature and other reading made majoring in English Education a perfect fit. At Bowling Green State University, I gained experience with academic essays by tutoring students through the Writing Center. I worked primarily with first-year students on argumentative essays, but sometimes had the opportunity to work with graduate students on research papers and with English as a Second Language students needing help applying grammar rules.Since 2009, I've been teaching middle and high school Language Arts courses ranging from 6th grade reading through Senior Composition. I help my students to recognize the strengths they already have and use those strengths to improve other areas.I am working toward a Master's Degree in English with a concentration in Rhetoric and Composition at Northern Kentucky University. This will position me to teach first-year composition courses at community and 2-year colleges. It has also provided me with more strategies for teaching writing.
