I am a rising sophomore at Yale University working towards a B.S. in Molecular Biochemistry & Biophysics and a B.A. in Philosophy on a pre-medical track. Since my high school graduation, I have spent a considerable amount of time working as an EMT as well as volunteering at Hospice. I am currently working in a research laboratory where cutting-edge biochemical technology (such as CRISPR-Cas9) is regularly used; a real-world experience which has enhanced my ability to describe advanced biology and chemistry concepts. After a successful career in economic development, I chose to move to Medelln, Colombia in 2013 to pursue my passion for music which led to a Latin Grammy Nomination and the discovery of my passion for education. I graduated from UConn (Go Huskies!) in 2018 with a Bachelor of Sciences degree. While at UConn I majored in biological sciences and minored in physiology and neurobiology. This past year I got my Master of Sciences degree in biology from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA and am currently working at The Jackson Laboratory as a Clinical Genomic Technologist. I am also a licensed EMT and have been volunteering for two years now! My approach to tutoring has always been taking a practical approach and putting the concept in terms the student is able to understand. I have a lot of energy and love teaching, which are things I will bring to every student I tutor! In my spare time I enjoy working out, watching sports, and reading about new scientific advances.

I taught French language and culture for over 15 years in both private and public schools: elementary, middle, high school, and Community college. I have lived extensively in Europe and Asia and have had the opportunity to visit many countries throughout the world. I had many wonderful experiences tutoring English as a second language in varying cultural contexts. I graduated from Smith College with a degree in French and studied at L'Universite de Paris, Sorbonne et Clignancourt through the Smith junior year abroad program. I also hold a Masters degree in Education with a concentration in Curriculum & Instruction. My college career was defined by my work at the Elon Writing Center and as a Writing Fellow, where I was able to polish my tutoring pedagogy through experience and a full-semester preparatory course. I approach sessions with a collaborative mindset, knowing that knowledge is formed via communication, probing questions, and strategic challenges. In the Writing CenterI consulted with clients on all genres of writing, from the classic five-paragraph essay, to lab reports, to business memos. As a Fellow, I was assigned to a particular history class where I met with each student to go over any writing assignment before it was due. I am passionate about addressing high order concerns (structure and argument) before low order ones (grammar and mechanics), to best help the cognition of my clients. Of course, I can make fun exercise worksheets for areas such as punctuation and grammar rules, too.Last summer I translated the skills I earned through this on-campus job to Vietnam where I helped Vietnamese students prepare to apply to boarding schools and colleges in the U.S. I served as a teaching assistant for English and test-prep classes, from intermediate and advanced writing to SAT classes, TOEFL tutoring, and college essay consultations. It was a joy to put my ESL training to use and to learn how to identify talent in a student and make sure that individuality is manifest on the page.I have a passion for argumentative writing, creative writing, and vocabulary across al age groups. Getting clients excited about a well-finished product, especially the "non-writers," gives me the most satisfaction. I look forward to working with any and all clients that want a boost in their writer's morale!In my free time, I love writing stories, watching Netflix, crafting from Pinterest, and hiking local trails with friends.

During college, I volunteered with the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program, tutoring families in English to help them better integrate into their new communities. After graduating, I was awarded a Fulbright Grant and spent a year in Germany as an English Teaching Assistant, teaching grades 5 through 12. Although the majority of my teaching experience is in English, I have always tutored French and German on the side, and I am most passionate about those languages. The first semester of my senior year in high school was spent living with a host family in Clermont-Ferrand, France, and I also spent a semester studying at La Sorbonne in college. I thus have a strong linguistic and cultural connection with France and Germany due to my time living and studying there. Regarding my teaching philosophy, I have always been an experiential learner, so I understand that not everyone learns traditionally, and I like bringing in cultural and anecdotal connections when teaching to give my students a colorful backdrop to what they are learning. In my spare time, I enjoy going to museums in New York (The Met, The Brooklyn Museum, The Whitney Museum, and MoMA are some of my favorites, to name a few).
