Cahokia is home to several buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Cahokia Courthouse is one such place; the structure was built in 1740 and still stands today. It is said to have been used for a year by Lewis and Clark on their expeditions. The courthouse is open to the public for guided tours or for an unguided walking tour. The exhibits in the courthouse show the history of the building, as well as the proceedings that took place within it during its 20 years as a courthouse. The historic courthouse also hosts several special events, including the annual Festival of the Good Old Days and the Old Time Music Fete. The Festival of the Good Old Days, also locally called Fete du Bon Vieux Temps, occurs every February and celebrates with a colonial theme. The festival features music and dancing similar to the celebrations that would have taken place over 200 years ago in the town.
