About Me

Good education, I believe is one of the most important gifts you can give to a child. I started my interest in imparting knowledge to others in Middle School. In a program called Peer to Peer, I learned to mentor lower grade students in subjects that were challenging them. For me English, both reading and writing, were always my subjects of choice. Later on, in High School, I started tutoring not by design but in an informal way. I was always available to help edit essays, proof read papers or formulate theses. I am a rising sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania majoring in International Relations and minoring in French and English. The studies of English and Literature have been my passion for a long time. I enjoy reading about cultures while familiarizing myself with the world’s diverse peoples. In my first year of University, I took three English courses and an intensive Writing Seminar which helped me develop my ability of analyzing, interpreting and explaining complex English texts while improving my written and oral communication skills. One of my greatest joys is helping a student who is first afraid or confused about a subject to understand it to the ability of being a master of that subject. During my freshman year, I was involved in tutoring children in West Philadelphia. The students assigned to us were often of lower academic ability and I loved the challenge the opportunity offered to me. To improve their motivation, I applied different teaching methods including games, quizzes and debates. Seeing my students improve their listening skills, their grammar and their research skills was very gratifying and that inspired me to help others to develop and to achieve their maximum potential. I am very creative and enjoy devising methods that make learning interesting. We are not born masters of our craft, we toil until we are masters of our craft. I am dedicated to encouraging young students to push themselves and embrace the growth process in order to develop and achieve. Through tailored tutoring to meet each student’s specific requirements, coupled with my ability to work well with others, I believe my students will excel.
