I am a PhD student in Literature at Duke University. I have been tutoring (and directing tutoring programs) for years and am looking forward to working with you to meet your goals! I have spent nearly every year since college tutoring in some capacity, including as a volunteer through my current church. I enjoy the challenge of discerning the best way for each particular student to understand and absorb information, and am always thrilled to see when they regain their confidence in their own abilities.

I am a senior Public Policy major at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a minor in Southern Studies and History. I will be attending law school next fall. I tutor the LSAT, English, general essay writing and composition, American history, music theory, economics, statistics, and more. In my free time, I'm reading a book, playing the piano, or watching college basketball.
I am always excited to help students learn. I would characterize myself as patient and understanding, and aim to help students understand processes rather than just find answers.
As a passionate educator with a Master's degree from Princeton University, I have over 5 years of tutoring experience across a range of subjects, including Algebra, AP English, and Sociology. My teaching philosophy centers on fostering a supportive learning environment where students feel empowered to express themselves and develop critical thinking skills. I believe in tailoring my approach to each student's unique needs, ensuring they not only grasp the material but also find joy in learning. I am particularly motivated by the opportunity to guide students through the college application process, helping them articulate their stories through compelling essays. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy exploring nature with my two dogs.
I'm not tutoring or buried in my textbooks, you will either find me rock climbing at the Triangle Rock Club, playing Ultimate Frisbee, working on my car, or enjoying the great outdoors (beaches, mountains, forests--you name it, I love it). On rainy weekends I enjoy tinkering with computers and old electronics, playing Pokemon, or picking at my guitar.
I am an incoming first-year medical student with a deep passion for the human body and mind. As a student who thrived with tutoring, I love teaching students how to think about problems and answer tough questions.
I am a recent magna cum laude graduate of Duke University and a full-time educator in North Carolina. I have a passion for helping young people figure things out and have experience writing professionally.
I am currently a student at Duke University studying Biomedical Engineering and Economics. Just a little bit about me and some of my interests. Some of my favorite academic interests include memoirs and modern classics. I think Catcher in the Rye is still one of my all time favorite books but Percy Jackson, a modern classic, is up there too. Beyond academics, I take great guilty pleasure in watching TV shows such as Westworld, Sherlock, How I Met Your Mother, and even The Bachelorette when I'm at a low point.
I am a rising senior at Duke University. I major in Computer Science and am also getting a minor in Physics. I have had experience tutoring/teaching as a teaching assistant for three classes: Intro to Databases, Electricity and Magnetism (for engineers), and Computer Network Architecture. I have had industry experience in software development as an intern for IBM and a cybersecurity analyst for TIAA. Outside of school/work, I play the piano and train with the Duke Taekwondo Club. I have a strong background in computer science, physics, and math, but I love learning about and helping students with a wide variety of subjects!
I am a freshman at Duke University in the Pratt School of Engineering. I plan on majoring in Civil or Environmental Engineering, as well as Economics. While I am qualified to tutor a range of subjects from math and science to ACT prep, I get the most excited when working on improving a student's writing because it is such a beautiful process. Sparking students' curiosity and excitement is the most rewarding part of tutoring, and I make it my mission to achieve that with all students I work with. In my free time, I am involved in a variety of groups on campus such as the triathlon club, FEMMES (a female-oriented STEM tutoring club), and The Chronicle, which is Duke's student newspaper. I also enjoy reading, running and baking all sorts of delicious delicacies.
I am a sophomore at Duke University studying computer science and physics. Academically, I am drawn towards disciplines that employ logical problem-solving. I enjoy working with others to discover new intuitive ways of understanding problems.
I am proficient at US History and can help an AP US History student towards a 4 or 5 on his or her exam. My concentration for both of my post-high school degrees was religion, and I would love to tutor students who are taking religion courses. My favorite hobby is reading, and I believe it is important to instill an enjoyment of reading in students as early as possible. I can help young people who need extra support to become better readers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Apex's 24 schools with personalized instruction. Whether your student attends a school in the Wake County or Chapel Hill-Carrboro school districts, we match them with tutors who understand local curriculum standards and can support their specific academic needs.
Personalized 1-on-1 instruction allows tutors to focus on the specific North Carolina Standard Course of Study requirements your student is working toward, whether in math, English, science, or social studies. Tutors can identify gaps in understanding and build skills at your student's pace, which is especially valuable given Apex's 15.8:1 student-teacher ratio in classroom settings.
Apex students typically seek support in math (algebra, geometry, and advanced courses), English/language arts, and science—particularly as they progress through middle and high school. We also work with students preparing for standardized tests like the SAT and ACT, as well as AP exam preparation across multiple subjects.
During the first session, your student's tutor will assess their current understanding, identify areas where they need the most support, and establish learning goals together. This personalized approach ensures the tutoring plan is tailored to your student's specific challenges and learning style from day one.
Varsity Tutors offers flexible pricing based on the subject, tutor expertise, and frequency of sessions. You can adjust your tutoring schedule as needed—whether increasing sessions before a test or reducing them during lighter academic periods. We work with Apex families to find an arrangement that fits both their budget and their student's academic calendar.
Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors who have strong subject expertise and proven teaching experience. Tutors are vetted for their ability to work effectively with students one-on-one and are matched based on your student's specific needs and learning goals.
Many students see improvement within the first few weeks of consistent personalized instruction, though the timeline depends on the subject and how far behind they are. Starting tutoring as soon as you notice your student is struggling gives them the best chance to catch up before grades are finalized, especially important in Apex's competitive academic environment.
Simply tell us your student's grade level, the subject they need help with, and your availability. Varsity Tutors will match them with an experienced tutor who fits their needs, and you can begin personalized instruction on a schedule that works for your family.
