Who needs tutoring?
No obligation. Takes ~1 minute.

I'm not tutoring or buried in my textbooks, you will either find me rock climbing at the Triangle Rock Club, playing Ultimate Frisbee, working on my car, or enjoying the great outdoors (beaches, mountains, forests--you name it, I love it). On rainy weekends I enjoy tinkering with computers and old electronics, playing Pokemon, or picking at my guitar.

I am an incoming first-year medical student with a deep passion for the human body and mind. As a student who thrived with tutoring, I love teaching students how to think about problems and answer tough questions.
I am a recent magna cum laude graduate of Duke University and a full-time educator in North Carolina. I have a passion for helping young people figure things out and have experience writing professionally.
I am currently a student at Duke University studying Biomedical Engineering and Economics. Just a little bit about me and some of my interests. Some of my favorite academic interests include memoirs and modern classics. I think Catcher in the Rye is still one of my all time favorite books but Percy Jackson, a modern classic, is up there too. Beyond academics, I take great guilty pleasure in watching TV shows such as Westworld, Sherlock, How I Met Your Mother, and even The Bachelorette when I'm at a low point.
I am a sophomore at Duke University studying computer science and physics. Academically, I am drawn towards disciplines that employ logical problem-solving. I enjoy working with others to discover new intuitive ways of understanding problems.
I am currently doing research on personalized therapies for glioblastoma brain tumors at the Duke Medical Center, before I continue on to medical school. I love to swim, walk my pug dog, and hang out with family and friends in my free time. I hope I can help you in your studies. I look forward to working with you!
I am a rising senior at Duke University. I major in Computer Science and am also getting a minor in Physics. I have had experience tutoring/teaching as a teaching assistant for three classes: Intro to Databases, Electricity and Magnetism (for engineers), and Computer Network Architecture. I have had industry experience in software development as an intern for IBM and a cybersecurity analyst for TIAA. Outside of school/work, I play the piano and train with the Duke Taekwondo Club. I have a strong background in computer science, physics, and math, but I love learning about and helping students with a wide variety of subjects!
I am a freshman at Duke University in the Pratt School of Engineering. I plan on majoring in Civil or Environmental Engineering, as well as Economics. While I am qualified to tutor a range of subjects from math and science to ACT prep, I get the most excited when working on improving a student's writing because it is such a beautiful process. Sparking students' curiosity and excitement is the most rewarding part of tutoring, and I make it my mission to achieve that with all students I work with. In my free time, I am involved in a variety of groups on campus such as the triathlon club, FEMMES (a female-oriented STEM tutoring club), and The Chronicle, which is Duke's student newspaper. I also enjoy reading, running and baking all sorts of delicious delicacies.
I am a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and Duke University. I received my Bachelor's degree in History and my Master's degree in Religious Studies. Since graduation I have tutored students in American History and Biblical Hebrew, which were exceedingly rewarding experiences. I am especially passionate in helping students learn to think critically, and enjoy the process of learning. While I tutor a variety of subjects, I am most enthusiastic about tutoring in History and Writing because these subjects utilize skills that students will use and cultivate throughout their lives and are applicable for many careers. I would describe my teaching philosophy as hands on and project-based learning. I strive to include fun and relevant videos, songs, and activities into my curriculum to ensure the engagement of my students. Outside of academia I like painting, baking, hiking, photography, and having game nights with friends.
I am an avid rower and bicyclist. I also greatly enjoy growing vegetables and playing basketball.
I am proficient at US History and can help an AP US History student towards a 4 or 5 on his or her exam. My concentration for both of my post-high school degrees was religion, and I would love to tutor students who are taking religion courses. My favorite hobby is reading, and I believe it is important to instill an enjoyment of reading in students as early as possible. I can help young people who need extra support to become better readers.
I am a Marshall Scholar and will begin graduate studies at the University of Cambridge in the fall.

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Burlington's 21 schools with expert tutors. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction is proven to accelerate learning—research shows it can improve student outcomes significantly compared to classroom instruction alone. Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors who are familiar with North Carolina's standards and can target the specific areas where your student needs support, whether that's reading comprehension, math fundamentals, or test preparation for EOG and EOC exams.
Your first session is all about understanding your student's goals, learning style, and current academic challenges. The tutor will assess where your student stands, ask about what's working and what isn't in their classes, and develop a personalized plan for moving forward. This foundation helps ensure every subsequent session is focused and productive.
Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors across all major subjects—math, science, English, history, foreign languages, and test prep for SAT, ACT, and AP exams. Whether your student is in elementary school working on foundational skills or a high schooler preparing for college entrance exams, we have tutors with expertise in the subjects that matter most to Burlington students.
When students fall behind in a classroom with a 15.6:1 student-teacher ratio, personalized tutoring can make a real difference by providing one-on-one attention and customized instruction. A tutor can identify the specific gaps in understanding, break down difficult concepts, and work at your student's pace—something that's difficult for teachers to do in a larger classroom setting.
Getting started is straightforward: tell us about your student's needs and goals, and we'll match them with a tutor who's a good fit. You'll schedule your first session, and from there, you can adjust the frequency and focus based on how things are going. Most families start with one or two sessions per week and adjust as needed.
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors who specialize in test prep for SAT, ACT, AP exams, and North Carolina's EOG/EOC assessments.
