I have 17 years teaching experience as an elementary ESL and middle school Spanish teacher in Minnesota with students from about 20 different countries and many language backgrounds. In 2019 I was nominated for Minnesota Teacher of the Year. It makes my day to see students proud of reaching each goal they set out to conquer! I've worked with students on English listening, speaking, reading, vocabulary and phonics goals, as well as language-related content goals (science, math, social studies, etc) in order to improve test-taking skills. While learning, we try to keep things fun with TPR movements, music, mnemonics, game-style learning activities, etc., as it helps our brain remember when we feel at ease. However, I also keep high expectations so students grow as much as possible. That's why my students feel proud of their accomplishments - they worked hard and earned it!

Hello! I'm originally from New York City, but have been living in Minneapolis, Minnesota for the past 12 years. I'm thrilled to be back in NYC as a pre-med and Comparative Literature student at Columbia University. I completed my high school career at St. Paul Academy and Summit School, a small prep-school with a heavy emphasis on writing and discussion. I worked as the editor of my high school's national and state award-winning newsmagazine, The Rubicon, and have closely edited hundreds of drafts, worked one-on-one with a staff of 26 editors and writers (ages 15-18), and written a few articles too in between it all! I'm happiest learning and sharing my knowledge with people of all ages.I bring extensive, fruitful editing experience, SAT verbal expertise, as well as fluency in Spanish, my first language. Speaking and learning foreign languages is one of the greatest joys in my life; I'm currently refining French and taking "Intensive Portuguese for Spanish Speakers." It's a life-long process. And yet, I believe foreign languages are best learned in big, joyful leaps, most often with the patient and persistent help of a tutor.I set goals with my tutees and work steadily and optimistically, both with and alongside them, until we have met every goal. Sometimes this happens earlier than planned, sometimes later. I approach the study of language with intention yet flexibility. It loses its beauty and particularity the second discouragement spreads, the instant anxiety kicks in. I believe a good tutor must do more than teach content. She offers positive reinforcement and guidance, discerning aid every step of the way.Outside of academia, I act and sing in musicals and choirs, do improv comedy, visit art museums, and run around the city in pursuit of food. I like to eat. I also love reading, although it's harder and harder to make time for that. I enjoy few things more than helping students achieve mental break-throughs and grow more confident in the process. I'm excited to help you get where you want to go as efficiently and thoughtfully as possible.
