I'm excited to work with students and to facilitate their learning and school engagement. I have graduated recently enough to remember what school and class are like. It's an exciting time in life, but it can bring challenges too, at any level of education. That's why I'm here to collaborate with any students who can benefit from my tutoring. I hope to show clarity, professionalism, and respect in helping students master their work and continue to feel eager about learning.

I am a graduate of Stanford University, where I received a BS in Cognitive Science and an MS in Computer Science. After graduation, I spent a summer in Palestine, where I taught web development, app development, and entrepreneurship to a cohort of overenthusiastic high school students; now, I've moved halfway across the country from the Bay Area to the Twin Cities. From volunteering with organizations like Twin Cities Rise and The Mid-Continent Oceanographic Institute to checking out art institutions like the Walker and Mia, it's been such a wonderful time settling into this new place that I call home.
I am unsure exactly what I want to study, I will likely explore Public Policy, Political Science, and Symbolic Systems. I also graduated from the University of Minnesota Talented Youth Math Program (UMTMYP) in 10th grade where I studied up through Linear Algebra and Multivariable Calculus. With a teacher for a mother, I have been raised appreciating and understanding the value of education. I love tutoring and have been doing it for many years. I started a tutoring program at an inner-city charter school to mentor and teach underserved students ranging from K-12. Additionally, I have worked as an independent tutor for students. I can tutor for a variety of subjects, especially standardized tests and math. As a recent high school graduate, I know the college application and testing process well and can help explain and guide in what often seems overwhelming. I have also been tutored myself, so I know the value of a great tutor and hope to provide that for others. As a tutor, I want to create an environment of learning, excitement, and joy. Outside of school, I enjoy playing tennis, longboarding, and exploring the beautiful lakes of Minnesota!
I am a Dartmouth College senior majoring in Computer Science and Digital Arts with several years of tutoring/mentoring experience. I have achieved scores in the 99th percentile for both the ACT and SAT prior to college. While in high school (St. Paul Academy graduate), I spent my time volunteering at the homeless shelter, helping out with their daycare and tutoring children. Nowadays, I spend most of my tutor hours helping students with the ACT, editing college essays, or imparting some admission-worthy wisdom.
I am an avid classical pianist, EMT, swimmer, and tinkerer. I love explaining things and paying forward my knowledge to those around me!
I'm Emma! I'm a rising senior Classics major at Carleton College in Northfield, MN. I study Latin, Ancient Greek, and the histories associated with the two languages. Outside of class, I'm an RA, and I spend 6-8 hours a week tutoring and teaching college access courses in a nearby high school. In the future, I hope to teach high school Latin!
I am a native of Shanghai, China who has been living in the United States for the past four years. I hold a bachelor's degree in International Trade from Shanghai Jiaotong University in Shanghai, China, and in 2009, I completed a Masters of GlobalManagementdegreeat Antwerp University in Belgium. I am also an ICA certified mandarin instructor holding a Certificate of Accreditation in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.
I'm a freshman here at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. I graduated from Wayzata High, and I'm currently pursuing a Bachelor's of Science in neuroscience. At the University, I'm usually in class, studying, hanging out with my friends, or at club meetings! In my free time, I love to breakdance, write poetry, debate politics and economics, and participate in practically every nerdy endeavor possible (huge Star Wars fan!!). I love to talk and will talk your ear off if you let me! I love trying new things, exploring the city, and traveling. My teaching philosophy is that teaching is a responsibility and a privilege; I'll put 110% into teaching if you put the same effort into learning. With hard work and patience, anything is possible!
I graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, with a Bachelor of Arts degree, having majored in mathematics. Since then, I've worked for a number of health technology companies as a business analyst, usually helping to bridge the communications gap between programming staff and end users with clear documentation and presentations. I was also a theater nerd in high school and college, and (with my wife) developed and co-taught an elementary/middle school theater program for our neighborhood school. I've been a private tutor in mathematics for a number of years, working with local families on a handful of subjects, mostly pre-calculus and calculus. My favorite part of tutoring is helping my students to see that one little insight that can unlock the whole of the subject or lesson, and helping them pick the right tool or method to get a good answer.
I am currently a freshman at Washington University in St. Louis majoring in computer science. In the future I plan on either working on cybersecurity or game design. While studying at Washington University, I am also on the football team and help watch over the weight room in the athletic complex. I am originally from Minnesota, and I have spent years working with kids ranging from 5th grade all the way up to high school. Whether it be tutoring or coaching, I find it so rewarding to see how much progress that anyone can make through the course of working hard and having fun doing it. When I tutor, I believe that being engaged is vital to learning. I am passionate about math and science, and love tutoring anyone in algebra and computer science. I enjoy solving logical puzzles, and I treat algebra the same way. I firmly believe that anyone can learn math and science, and have fun doing it. When I am not tutoring or studying, I enjoy football and lacrosse, as well as following all Minnesota teams.
I am back in the United States, I work at Children's Defense Fund as the Youth Programs Associate. In my free time, I like to hike with my dog, read, and cook!
I'm more likely to give an answer quickly when a teacher asks a question if I have a habit of properly attuned instincts. So, if I want your confidence to grow, I need to redirect the water your instincts flow through to the proper conduits of careful thinking.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Minnetonka's 28 schools and all three school districts with personalized 1-on-1 instruction. Whether your student attends school in the Minnetonka, Edina, or Hopkins school districts, we match them with tutors who understand the local curriculum and academic expectations in the area.
While Minnetonka's average class size is reasonable, even in smaller classrooms, individual students can get lost in whole-group instruction. Personalized 1-on-1 tutoring fills that gap by providing focused attention on exactly what your student struggles with—whether that's a specific math concept, writing skills, or test preparation—without the pacing constraints of a classroom.
Minnetonka students seek tutoring across a wide range of subjects, with particularly strong demand in math (especially algebra and geometry), English/writing, and standardized test prep (ACT and SAT). We also connect students with tutors for science, foreign languages, and AP courses as they advance through middle and high school.
Tutors who work with Minnetonka students are familiar with Minnesota's academic standards and how they're taught across the district. They can help students master grade-level skills, prepare for Minnesota-specific assessments, and build the foundational knowledge needed for success in advanced coursework and college-prep classes.
The first session is focused on understanding your student's specific needs, learning style, and goals. The tutor will assess current skill levels, identify gaps, and discuss what success looks like—whether that's improving grades, building confidence, or preparing for a specific test or assignment.
Varsity Tutors offers flexible scheduling to work around your family's needs, whether your student needs help once a week or multiple times weekly. We work with families to find a tutoring plan that matches both their schedule and budget, with transparent pricing and no hidden fees.
Tutors who connect with Minnetonka students are subject matter experts with strong backgrounds in their teaching areas. Many have teaching experience, advanced degrees, or specialized certification. Varsity Tutors carefully vets all tutors to ensure they have the expertise and communication skills to help students succeed.
Progress looks different for each student—it might be improved test scores, better grades on assignments, increased confidence, or mastery of specific skills. Tutors track progress throughout the year and communicate regularly with families about what's working, adjustments that might help, and milestones your student has reached.
