My goals as a tutor are to help you not only understand, but love any coursework you could be struggling with.I am currently a junior in college studying for BA in psychology.I also have an engineering background from robotics in high school.My teaching strategy is tough but fair. I earned Master's in Spanish at Loyola University Chicago and my B.A. in Spanish at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. I've studied in Spain and for two years I lived and worked in Peru. I enjoy teaching and tutoring, and I love speaking Spanish!In my spare time, I am very active; I run with my dog, hunt pheasants, and fish. I like to watch my hometown sports teams and play pick-up hockey when I can. I am a graduate of St. Olaf College, with a Bachelor of Arts in Physics and Mathematics. Following my passion of teaching and working with students, I also studied to become licensed to teach math and physics. I have spent time working with students in St. Paul who are struggling to meet grade level standards, students who need an extra boost for an AP test, and I spent an entire semester at a school in India working with students in math, physics, and SAT prep. I really enjoy tutoring students through their preparation for standardized tests. AP, ACT, and SAT are tests where a quick understanding of the content is necessary, but students also need wise strategies for working under time pressure, narrowing down answers, and understanding what the questions are really saying. I value critical thinking as my philosophy of education, because students who have developed the ability to reason through new concepts and be confident in the conclusions they reach are not only well-prepared for tests, but also well-prepared for everything they encounter in life. When not tutoring, I spend my time reading a wide variety of books, knitting, running, playing Ultimate Frisbee, and hiking.

I started taking French in high school and traveled all over France one summer with other high school students. In college, I continued taking French because I love the language. In was working on a major in International Relations which required credits in 2 different languages so of course one of them was French! I studied abroad in Nevers for six months where all of my courses were in French and I lived with a French family. I ended up with a double major. My son also took French in high school, studied at an Engineering University in Paris and has a majors in French and Engineering. Of course I went to visit him while he was there! For that last 6 years, he and I try to speak French as much as possible. 2 years ago, I got my substitute teacher license and I have taught French as a long term sub and a short term sub at the high school level.

While in college, I worked with middle school aged students in the Science Bound program with STEM related subjects. I also have worked with high school students at my church with college preparatory classes and ACT prep. While I tutor different subjects, I am most passionate about English, French, and Reading. My philosophy towards learning is never give up. We all can learn something new! It is only a matter of understanding which learning method works best for each individual learner and ascertaining the skill-sets needed.In my experience helping students , I have developed proven study tips and strategies that have helped my students achieve their academic goals. In my free time, I enjoy travel especially to Europe. I hope to one day say I have visited all of the continents except of course Antarctica.
