Biology Tutoring review by Rachel in Schererville, IN
We continued preparing for the student's upcoming math exam. I made practice problems for her to do so we could see what else she needed to work on. We went over all of the problems and worked on memorizing the equations. We spent the rest of the time going over her biology assignments. We will continue going over this during our next session. I also have some other resources I will be bringing in, to use as study aides.

Biology Tutoring review by Elissa in Schererville, IN
We covered Ecology vocabulary intensely for an hour and a half. We went over symbiotic relationships such as mutualism, commensalism, parasitism and gave examples. We went over what makes up an ecosystem. How populations are different than communities. What classifies the different Biomes, and which Biome makes up most of the United States and which Biome makes up most of Earth. We talked about a Logistic Graph, and which part shows Exponential Growth, and which part shows Carrying Capacity. We discussed how a food chain is different from a food web, and what are autotrophs, heterotrophs, scavengers and decomposers. We went over an organism's niche and its habitat and how competition can affect an organism's niche. The student struggled on just a couple of vocabulary words. I wrote those down so he can review that some more. I left my notes on the vocabulary words. I wrote the vocabulary word in the margin, and the definition on the rest of the paper. That way he can fold back the words and just see the definitions. It is basically a way to review without using index cards. I told him to just go over one page until he feels confident that he knows the words. Then he can go over another page of vocabulary. I told him to go over the words a couple of more times before the test as a refresher. I also gave him some detailed notes on Biomes, which included where they are located, their climate and rainfall, dominant plants and animals in that area. I felt very confident that the student knew the material very well and would do well on his test. I reminded him to not focus on any one question, but instead to skip that question and answer the easy ones first. This would help with some of the test anxiety and help him focus on the harder questions when he went back over the test.

Today we reviewed the taxonomy of mammals. We concentrated on chordates, specifically jawless fish, cartilage fish, bony fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. We also reviewed early hominids and their distinctive features.
