I am currently a second year medical student. In college, I studied biology, chemistry, physics, and Spanish with a biology major and chemistry minor. I also spent 6 weeks studying Spanish in Ecuador. I really enjoy helping others learn Spanish, and my second favorite subject would be any sort of biology or related topic. I hope to help you reach your goals by helping you work through the learning process rather than just giving answers, and hopefully we can make it interesting and even fun!

I have been tutoring for over 12 years. I have worked with many different students in many different subjects. I've worked as a classroom teacher and instructional content creator, as well. My favorite part of tutoring is knowing that I am making a real difference for my students. I am looking forward to helping more students achieve their academic goals!
My decision to obtain both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Spanish stems from my passion for the Spanish language and culture. Quintus Ennius, a writer during the period of the Roman Republic and often considered the father of Roman poetry, famously quoted “He who has two languages has two souls”. I grew up in a Texas-Mexico border town and learned the Spanish language along with English. When people ask me what my first language is, I always say “I have two first languages, Spanish and English!”, and that couldn’t be truer. Not only has being completely fluent in Spanish opened up opportunities for me, it has also exposed me to so many different and wonderful Spanish speaking cultures. And although I have not visited every Spanish speaking country, I feel as if I have traveled the world through reading Spanish literature.I teach with a contagious smile, a humorous disposition and an open personality which I believe puts students at ease, and when they are more comfortable, they are more apt and open to learn the language. Another key element I use in teaching Spanish as a foreign language is to introduce the language through the use of Latin and Hispanic cultural elements such as their customs, beliefs, traditions and the Arts. This keeps the students motivated and helps them readily grasp the language. Growing up in a border town and speaking Spanish for as long as I can remember, my Spanish dialect is native sounding. I think it highly benefits the student to hear and learn Spanish words in a native dialect. I also believe technology is an important part of learning Spanish and I utilize it whenever possible. Through the use of the worldwide web, a student can visit any country and even communicate with a Spanish native in a live Spanish chat room! Through the incredible world of learning Spanish, one gains an appreciation for another language and culture. My enthusiastic, cultural approach to teaching Spanish helps students acquire language skills in a way that keeps them motivated, interested and determined to continue learning the language. Not only has Spanish increased my ability to communicate and broadened my capabilities, my awareness of other cultures has made me a well-rounded individual who is capable of comfortably assimilating to almost any situation. Like Quintus Ennius, I also feel as if I have been blessed with having two souls through my bilingualism.
Learning has always been a journey of growth for me. Growing up, I faced my own struggles with understanding new concepts and feeling left behind in the classroom. It wasn't until I found strategies and resources that worked for my unique way of learning that I began to see how empowering education could be. That experience shaped not only how I approach my own learning but also how I teach others. I know firsthand what it feels like to struggle and the sense of accomplishment that comes when it finally clicks. Now, as a Computer Engineering and Mathematics student at the University of Washington, I strive to make learning fun, engaging, and individualized for studentsespecially those who, like me, need personalized support to unlock their full potential. My teaching philosophy is rooted in empathy and adaptability. Each student learns differently, and I tailor every session to fit their needs. From breaking down complex concepts into simple, manageable pieces to connecting lessons to their passions or real-world applications, I aim to create an environment where students feel confident to ask questions, explore solutions, and enjoy the process of learning. Whether it's preparing for exams, mastering new skills, or rebuilding confidence in their abilities, I'm here to guide students every step of the way. Learning can be challenging, but it should also be a journey of discovery and joy. Together, we can make that happen!

I have been a teacher for over 15 years in the beautiful state of VA. I have taught several grades, from 2nd to 8th grade. I love to teach, and I think the best part is sharing my knowledge over a variety of subjects and making connections to previous experiences or existing background knowledge. I tutor in all subjects: math, history, science, and language arts - in grades K-8. I believe that teaching includes building interest and engagement with students. When they are interested in the topic, they are more willing to participate, ask questions, and ultimately master the content.

I am passionate about helping students because I believe education is a transformative tool that empowers individuals to achieve their goals and realize their potential. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with students of all ages, from teaching science concepts to high schoolers to leading laboratory experiments and workshops for college students, which has honed my ability to adapt my teaching style to meet diverse learning needs. I went to the University of Mary Washington to study environmental science and to get licensed to teach in the state of Viginia. Afterwards, I went to Clark University to get my master's in environmental science and policy. In addition, I have a 120 hour Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate and a pass B in a CELTA . Since getting my degree, I have taught a variety of subjects; earth science, English, history, STEM, ESL and elementary math to a variety of ages. I have over 5 years of teaching and tutoring experience. I have taught elementary students in China, adults in Thailand, and secondary students here in the states. My favorite subject would have to be the sciences, because that is what I went to school for and what motivated me to love learning when I was younger. I absolutely love teaching using a hands-on approach, where the students are the main focus of the lesson. I see students succeed the most when they are the teachers. The greatest motivation for being a teacher is seeing students excel at something they find difficult. When that light bulb turns on for them, it always puts a smile on my face. I customize my lessons for the learners. no matter the subject, I prepare my lesson for each student I teach. Everyone has a certain way they learn and as your tutor, I will tap into that to get you to where you want to go.

I am fascinated by history and science, even though my personal strengths lie in English and the arts. One subject I do not excel in is math. But I am working to improve myself in that area.My personal philosophy is that learning is lifelong, and can be so much fun if you find the right methods! :) I believe in ownership of education: the student shouldn't have learning happen to them; it should happen by them. Ownership means choice and decisions, as well as empowerment. My goal is to help my students discover enjoyment and excitement in learning, and to show them how to feel confident and in control of their education so that they can continue on their own for years to come.

I know that teachers provide skills and knowledge used by young people throughout life. Therefore, as a teacher, my greatest aim is to be a role model. I want to cultivate open minds, the knowledge and ability to look at the world critically, and students belief in their own capacity to make positive contributions to society.
I am a retired high school Math Teacher and Principal with over 35 years experience working with students. I hold a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics from the University of Mary Washington and a Masters of Science in Computer Science from Hood College. I also hold certifications for Math 8-12, Computer Science, and Secondary Administration I and II. I have been tutoring all manner of math, computer science, and test prep related courses online since 2015. For the past 4 years my focus has been almost exclusively on tutoring calculus (AP Calc AB, AP Calc BC , College Calc 1, College Calc 2). These are my favorite courses to tutor as I taught the AP program for nearly 20 years before becoming a high school administrator. My methodology is teaching students to think and to diagnose problems, thus helping them to develop strong habits of mind and self-confidence in problem solving. I ask as many, if not more, questions than I answer. I can quickly determine a student's weaknesses and prescribe a learning plan to address them. My goal is to make my presence redundant as the student builds a tool box of mathematical reasoning and processing skills that will allow them an increased sense of independence. Outside of teaching, my interests are centered on the Philadelphia sports teams (Fly Eagles Fly!!), Ford Mustangs and video games (Madden, Golf, third person adventures).
