I am a recent cum laude graduate of the University of Amsterdam's Masters in Economics Program where I specialized in Monetary Policy and Banking. While there, I worked as a teaching assistant and tutored in economics and mathematics. Prior to that, I worked as an ESL teacher for two years in Russia and China.
I am available to help students with any topics they are struggling with in their high school or early college-level Physics courses.
I'm a graduate of the School of Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University (2015). I have a Bachelor's of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering, and am pursuing a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the VCU School of Business. I've been a mentor for the past four years and am very active in my method of tutoring. I have helped several students with official tests and homework assignments.
I am very excited to have the chance to work with students preparing for the PSAT, the SAT, or the LSAT! While I'm originally from Connecticut, I attended college and law school in Buffalo, New York. While there, I worked for a test prep agency helping students prepare for the SAT and the LSAT. In 2003, I moved to Richmond. I worked with the Virginia Department of Taxation for 7 years doing policy work and assisting with the legislative process. In 2011, I began working for Bryant and Stratton College, where I taught students in the Paralegal Studies program. I loved helping my students prepare for new careers. I can't wait to work with you and help you succeed as well!
I am a graduate of Brigham Young University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in International Relations with an emphasis in Middle Eastern Studies and Arabic. As part of my coursework, I studied Arabic for three years and spent a semester in Amman, Jordan. After graduating, I worked on a U.S. Senate campaign, then interned at a think tank and congressional office in Washington, DC. While at the think tank, I co-authored an article that was published in US News and World Report. I am currently pursuing my juris doctorate (JD) at the University of Georgia School of Law.
I am a graduate of Yale University, where I majored in Global Affairs. After graduation, I spent one year at a liberal arts college in Singapore, where I worked in the writing center and mentored students extensively in academic writing. Since then, I have been traveling, while continuing to tutor writing skills online. I emphasize learning how to write a clear, organized, and persuasive argument supported by solid evidence. In addition, I have experience tutoring students one-on-one with academic subjects and test prep. I enjoy helping my students discover the patterns behind the problems in standardized tests, especially in the SAT and LSAT. I believe in a personalized approach, and I love seeing students gain mastery and understanding of these skills. Next Fall I will be attending law school.
I am currently a second year law student at Harvard Law School. I am passionate about public interest law, particularly immigration and criminal defense.
I am often asked by friends to help them with their math homework. I have spent countless hours teaching calculus to engineering, computer science, physics, and economics majors. Being one of seven children, I have been helping my sibling with math for as long as I can remember. I believe that a solid understanding of mathematics is crucial to success, and the demand for people with quantitative skills is only growing.
I am most interested in improving the critical thinking and critical writing skills of students who will comprise the next generation of college graduates and working professionals. The ability to express oneself clearly through writing is an invaluable skill both within academia and the professional workforce. I believe it is my job to provide students with the necessary preparation and skills they will need to succeed in a college environment and beyond. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy reading fiction (with a special soft spot for sci-fi/fantasy), running and training for my next marathon, and experimenting with new recipes in my kitchen.
I am currently working on my Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, where I attained my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry. VCU is where I have held bioinorganic research positions as well as teaching positions. I acted as a teaching assistant in various chemistry and biology classes while studying and am currently an adjunct faculty teaching chemistry courses for the university. In addition to Varsity Tutors, I tutor for PCG education where I prepare students at J L Francis Elemetnary School for their mathematics SOLs. Throughout my different experiences with teaching and tutoring, I have found that each individual requires a different teaching style. Adjusting styles to accommodate different learning styles can be difficult at start, but overtime it helps the success of students to achieve their goals.
I am an avid enthusiast for following your passions, no matter what they are. I enjoy teaching and spending time with others. I have a great vast amount of experience tutoring other peers, students, children, etc. I hope that I can help others reach their goals in learning!
I am a recent graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, where I earned a Bachelors of Science in Biology. Throughout my three years of undergrad, I have been a preceptor for Cell Biology and Genetics. In addition, I was a supplemental instruction leader in CHEM 101 and CHEM 102. I am currently a Medical Scribe, but I will be attending VCOM for medical school starting Fall 2018.
I am offering my skills and expertise to facilitate and inspire young minds to discover and master the wonderful intricacies of Mathematics.
I'm a current medical student at VCU School of Medicine, and a graduate of Johns Hopkins University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology. I've had the pleasure of tutoring a diverse range of students for 5 years; while I tutor a broad set of subjects, I'm most passionate about biology, psychology, and chemistry. I'm a big proponent of ensuring understanding over memorization and teaching concepts that last for years to come (particularly for other students interested in medicine!) In my free time, I love to write poetry, edit essays, and gush about game writing with friends.
I am a lifelong francophile who has lived in Paris, France for almost a year. I am also an avid NCAA men's and women's basketball fan! Go Rams! Go Terps!
I am a graduate of Georgetown University, holding a Master of Public Policy, a top 10 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program nationally. Originally from China, I am now based in the US and have worked with researchers, NGOs, and international organizations to solve real-world problems. My subjects include GRE Quantitative, GRE, Math, Coding and Programming, and Chinese. Due to my practical experience, I believe that the most effective way to study is "learning by doing." I will create real-world scenarios and help students understand how to leverage their skills, thereby gaining a sense of accomplishment. Games, debates, and other interactive activities are also important for students to like the subject and improve their grades. I am confident that I have the capability and patience to be an amazing tutor. My Master's degree is data-heavy, and I accepted the rigorous training in advanced data analytics, statistical modeling, and programming. I was also a tutor for middle school students in Science and Math, meaning I can not only understand the difficult jargon, but also explain it in plain language. While pursuing my degree, I was a Chinese teaching assistant for undergraduates. By designing the curriculum independently, I helped students understand Chinese society from the economy, diplomacy, and family transformation. I am looking forward to meeting you all!
I am a current third-year student at Virginia Commonwealth University. I am in the BS/MD Guaranteed Admissions program for Medicine at VCU, and I am majoring in Biology with a minor in Business and a minor in Dance. I am originally from Phoenix, Arizona and I have a passion for teaching. I have had lots of experience with tutoring and also in a large variety of subjects. I worked at a place called "The Tutoring Center" for 8 months where I had the opportunity to teach students aged 5 through 18 in varying levels of Math, English, and Writing. I have also been now tutoring with Varsity for nearly 2 years. While I tutor in a large variety of subjects, I am especially passionate about teaching Math, Chemistry, Biology, and also tutoring in Standardized Test prep such as for the SAT, PSAT, and ACT.
I am a sophomore electrical engineering student and member of the honors college at Virginia Commonwealth University. I recently graduated from Maggie L. Walker Governor's School in June of 2017. As a passionate tutor with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from James Madison University, I have over 2 years of experience helping students excel in subjects such as chemistry, biology, and mathematics. My teaching philosophy centers on fostering a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring complex concepts. I believe that every student has the potential to succeed, and I strive to connect with them by tailoring my approach to their individual learning styles. My goal is not just to improve grades, but to cultivate a genuine interest in the sciences.
I am currently a first-year medical student at Virginia Commonwealth University. I have a huge passion for science, and would love to help out whoever I can, especially those interested in entering the medical field!
I am currently preparing to begin a Master's of Teaching program at VCU this fall and have continued to excel in the math and history courses I need to round out my teaching endorsements. Because my future career path focuses on teaching at the high school level, I have a preference for tutoring math (especially algebra through calculus) and history, along with writing and my current subject of philosophy. Besides my career motivations, I find that I stand out the most as a tutor in these areas because of my capability in clearly presenting complex material and my ability to grasp the diverse perspectives of my students.
Hello! I am currently a junior at The Ohio State University majoring in mechanical engineering. I've been tutoring for around 5 years and have worked with students of all ages. I specialize in helping students improve their SAT and ACT scores. My teaching method is to target students weak areas in a subject and reteach them the topic from scratch with tips and tricks. I believe the best way to learn is by applying the topics learnt to real questions to ensure your student feels comfortable solving them come time for the exam!
I am currently a freshman at VCU, studying in Mechanical Engineer. I have always loved math and physics since. I had excellent grades in high school and first year of college on math and physics. During junior and senior year, I volunteered to help students with their math SOLs. I enjoyed working with them, and I am willing to help more people.
Ready to build a bulletproof essay? I'd love to help you reach your academic goals, and look forward to talking with you!
I am a graduate of Tufts University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English as well as a minor in History. Since graduation, I have worked as a 7th grade Reading Language Arts teacher in Dallas Texas at a newly formed public all boys school. This has provided me with great experience and insight into how students best learn and how to create culturally responsive lessons that students will engage with. I am most passionate about English, Literature, History, and Spanish. In my experience, working to prepare students for state standardized tests has had the additional benefit of helping students to discover what they enjoy reading about. This increase in intrinsic motivation to read has had an important impact on struggling students. I am dedicated towards ensuring that students are provided with an education that increases their quality of life.
Hi everyone! I'm Iman, an MCAT tutor with over 3 years of STEM tutoring experience. I scored a 519 (96th percentile) on the MCAT, including a 130 in CARS (98th percentile), and will be starting medical school this July. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania, where I developed a strong foundation in the biological and physical sciences alongside hands-on research and clinical experience. I bring a positive, supportive mindset to every session and focus on working WITH each student's learning style, not against it. I specialize in supporting students with a weaker science foundation, non-STEM majors, non-traditional applicants, and neurodivergent learners. I specialize in all four MCAT sections, with particular strength in CARS, Biology/Biochemistry, and Chemistry/Physics. I also tutor General Biology, General Chemistry, Biochemistry, and college-level Physics. My goal is to help students build personalized strategies that raise scores and develop medical-school-ready study habits. I view MCAT prep as an opportunity to grow the skills students will rely on throughout their entire medical career, and I care deeply about empowering students to become confident, independent learners.
I am currently a lead preschool teacher. I received my Bachelor's in Psychology from VCU and am looking to return to school to further my education. While in college, I worked as a Supplemental Instruction leader, teaching general biology and anatomy. I have also worked in an after school program with elementary age children, but I have my fondest memories volunteering as a counselor for Camp Kesem. In my own experience, I loved school and now I love teaching even more at all age levels! I especially enjoy the challenge of getting creative to discover what approach and mediums work best for each student. I am available for in person as well as online tutoring.
Hi, I'm Sahnnee! I currently live in Virginia, and I am pursuing my Bachelor's in Computer Science at Vanderbilt. I have been tutoring for over sevens years, specifically in mathematics. I have always enjoyed tutoring, and I hope I can help you on your journey to reach your goals!
I am a 19 year old student taking a year off from college to explore opportunities in the intersection between art and cognitive studies. I am currently residing in Los Angeles, but traveled from Charlottesville, Virginia where I was studying Cognitive Science and Studio Art at University of Virginia. I am patient, flexible, and love working with students in different subjects, but especially math. I prefer to cater the way I teach a student based on how they learn, whether it be by visuals, repetition, etc. I create methods that are out of the box if a student struggles with the way she/he are learning in school since school tends to teach in a uniform method rather than on an individualized basis.
I'm Kendra, a professional ESL and Curriculum Development professional. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). I have worked both abroad and domestically, online and in the classroom teaching students of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels. I focus heavily on proper pronunciation, grammar and building your confidence as an English speaker. I look forward to seeing you in class!
Hi! I'm an incoming second year at UCLA, working on attaining a B.S. in Physiology and a minor in Science Education. I graduated high school with the IB Diploma. I've tutored math and biology pro bono locally in the Northern Virginia area for almost two years, as I love giving back to my community and honing my teaching skills. My style involves focusing on addressing knowledge gaps and trying to teach in engaging ways rather than just drilling problems!
I am an expert writer and communicator in both English and Spanish, and my thorough knowledge of linguistics (phonetics and syntax) makes me especially qualified to help second language learners. While I am an effective and capable tutor for a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Spanish, and ESL, for I believe that strong communication skills are the foundation for success.
I'm passionate about helping others succeed and that is why I engaged in tutoring. With a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Virginia and an MBA degree from Chicago Booth, I believe I bring a unique blend of perspectives and strategic thinking to the realm of tutoring. My journey as a tutor began during my own pursuit of excellence, as I prepared for standardized tests. I realized the pivotal role that skilled and passionate tutors can play in shaping students' academic success, and that is why I'm committed to paying forward the impact that tutoring had on my own educational journey by providing the best guidance I can provide to others. Having helped both high school students preparing for the SAT and adults tackling the GMAT, I've observed the transformational power of targeted instruction. What stands out for me is the engagement and focus that adult learners bring to their preparation. As a result, I find immense satisfaction in assisting them on their GMAT journey. I believe that understanding the individual needs of each student is paramount to tailoring effective teaching methods. I strive to imparting not just subject knowledge, but also study skills and problem-solving techniques that will serve students beyond the classroom. Subjects I tutor encompass a spectrum from mathematics, finance, business management and test-taking strategies. I'm excited to be a part of the Varsity Tutors community, and I look forward to working with you, students, to contribute my expertise and passion to guide you towards your goals.
I am an undergraduate student at the University of Virginia (UVA) originally from Fairfield, Connecticut. I am pursuing my Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Global Public Health on the pre-med track with the hopes of becoming a physician (hopefully in pediatrics). At UVA, I am involved in youth mentoring as a Program Director of "GEMS" (Girls Excited about Math and Science), where I teach exciting lessons and conduct experiments with a class of elementary school girls in a variety of scientific topics, while I am also the Head Program Director of Youth Mentoring at UVA. I was also involved in tutoring throughout high school, where I worked with a group of special needs students. While I tutor in a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Science (especially Biology and Chemistry), and Humanities, which are most strongly reflected in my own studies. In my experience in the areas of reading and writing in particular, strong literary thinking skills helped me to be more creative and set myself apart in many of my applications to college, so I am passionate about helping students of any age to become stronger writers. I am also passionate about enhancing students' skills in critical thinking, especially through STEM topics, which can set students up for success in any difficult course or standardized test. I hope to instill a strong appreciation for education and learning within each of my students, and I believe that the first step is to help students feel more confident in their areas of interest while setting goals for the future. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking and being outdoors, traveling, painting, and playing soccer.

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Lynchburg's 36 schools and 4 school districts with personalized tutoring support. Whether your student attends a school in Lynchburg City Schools, Amherst County, or surrounding districts, we can match them with a tutor who understands Virginia's academic standards and local curriculum requirements.
Personalized 1-on-1 instruction is highly effective for SOL preparation because tutors can focus on the specific standards your student finds challenging. Tutors work at your student's pace, identify knowledge gaps, and use targeted practice—all proven strategies for mastering Virginia's rigorous assessment standards. Whether preparing for SOL exams in math, reading, science, or history, tutors tailor their approach to your student's learning style and goals.
Lynchburg students commonly seek support in math (especially algebra and geometry), reading comprehension, and standardized test preparation. We also work with students on writing skills, science concepts, and test-taking strategies for SOL exams. Varsity Tutors can connect you with expert tutors in virtually any subject, so if your student needs help with something specific, we can find the right match.
Lynchburg's average student-teacher ratio of 13.5:1 is reasonable, but even in well-staffed classrooms, teachers can't provide individualized attention to every student. Personalized 1-on-1 tutoring fills that gap—your student gets undivided attention, customized pacing, and immediate feedback. This focused approach helps students catch up, stay ahead, or deepen their understanding in ways that large classroom settings can't always provide.
The first session is an opportunity for the tutor to get to know your student—their learning style, current challenges, goals, and strengths. The tutor will assess where your student stands academically, ask about specific areas needing support, and outline a personalized plan moving forward. This foundation helps the tutor tailor all future sessions to maximize your student's progress.
Tutoring costs vary based on the subject, tutor expertise, and frequency of sessions. Varsity Tutors works with families to create flexible tutoring plans that fit different budgets and schedules. We recommend starting with a consultation to discuss your student's needs and get a clear sense of pricing options available to you.
Varsity Tutors connects students with expert tutors who have subject expertise and teaching experience. Tutors understand Virginia's curriculum standards and bring real-world knowledge to their subjects. Every tutor is carefully matched to your student based on both academic qualifications and teaching approach, ensuring a productive learning relationship.
The best time to start is whenever you notice your student could benefit from extra support—whether that's early in the school year to build a strong foundation, before SOL exams, during a challenging unit, or to help with college prep. Starting early gives students more time to build confidence and master key concepts, but tutoring helps at any point in the academic year.
